This hotel far exceeded my expectations. I heard people mention how noisy others were around here, but I didn't have too much of that - pretty much everyone kept to themselves! I can imagine it being crazy if you visit here on a busy weekend so avoid that if possible, but where else would you go? I'm pretty sure other hotels would have that same problem. Being grumpy wouldn't help things out either if you visit somewhere else and are faced with the same issue.
Wifi was free and complementary, so no need to buy it or even click a button to log in. No breakfast so keep that in mind. They did have coffee in the lobby, though.
There are also two main buildings, and according to this very serious notice to all guests, any DOGS need to be in the second building. No smoking in the rooms either, and the room I was in (Room 406, building two floor two) was nice and smoke smell free. Not a ton of outside noise or crazy party goers, just a lot of construction in the area so island turn lanes were closed off (Early Nov 2023). Also I saw a few weed smokers outside the place, so people seemed to follow the rules well. Big appreciation for that!
Wendy's is available within walking distance but they weren't open when I wanted to go around 7 or 8 in the morning for breakfast so I got the McD's breakfast instead. I'm not needing to post photos of my room as there wasn't much to discuss.
Beds were neat and clean, no bed bugs or cockroaches in sight! Sure there may have been part of the hot water handle missing on the sink but it still worked fine and had running hot water, and the walls had some black smudges (not mold) but that's not really a very big deal, purely cosmetic. The room was a bit dark but enough to get by. No light around the desk but a lamp was in the corner of the room (didn't feel like moving it or anything, that would've fixed my issue). No idea if the TV worked but there was a cable box and the TV did have No Signal, but I can survive for two nights without cable tv, not that hard!
Keycard did stop working on Day 2 but all that needed to be done was go up to the front desk and get them to reactivate it, easy!
They provided plenty of soap, shampoo and conditioner. I spotted about 4-5 available outlets easily accessible, and a standard small fridge and microwave (not microfridge!)
I did arrive here 1.5 hours early before 3, and so they did mention they would chaarge an early check-in fee, but I get it. They need time to prepare the room, who knows how disgusting the previous guest left the room?
Smoke detectors were installed so be aware of that.
Overall, very pleased with the hotel and stay and left a small tip for housekeeping as I didn't make too much of a mess. And to all those complaining about the policies and the fact front desk is behind plexiglass - come on!! I bet they feel much safer that way, especially late at night - I would! One of the strictest policies I've seen but there are too many people out there that disobey and everyone hates 'em for it, especially those travelling for bsiness! Thank you for the strict rules, and I hope you enforce them. Too many dummies out there, but still, know them before you go. No...
Read moreI've stayed here on two occasions. The first time they had given my room away and then proceeded to give me another room that they claimed to be of greater value. I let that pass. The room wasn't that bad even though it wasn't what I booked. I met the supposed owners they seemed nice so, I decided to stay again. I book a reservation initially for one night. I took a trip out of town and decided to book another stay for additional days. I arriven just off the highway at 11:00 pm tired and sleepy. I had the booking agent comfirm my reservation before I arrived. They informed me it was secured and they were waiting on my arrival. I get there , the room I reserved had been given to someome else. They attempted to put me in another room on the upper level that looked like a pigs stye. But I was tired after driving 10 hours straight. I was done. So, I decided to bite the bullet and tough it out. I went to the newly assigned temporary room and as I approaced I noticed the light on and the bed unmade. i immediately went back to the office, the man on duty proceeded to put me in another room, downstairs a feww doors from the room I had reserved. It was not good but I was tired and didn't want totry and find another hotel at such short noticed plus they had said upon check in NO REFUNDS, NO PETS, NO SMOKING. i DON'T have pets and I don't smoke. The next day I was moved to the room I initiallt requested. I got this morning went to work and when I got back someone was in my room, my key did not work. I went to the office they informed me that I had been checked out. I asked how being my room was reserved and paid for in advance for 12 days. I was informed that there was nothing they could do and I could speak with management at 10:00 am in the morning. I am missing my medication, tollitries and God knows what else. I am too tired to even look. I just open my bag a glanced at the things on top. I am so disappointed and I think it was a racially based moved. They moved a two caucasian women in my room and moved me out while I was at work. They had a black guy that was there that claimed theyhad been in the room since 3:00 pm. I told the guy in the office I wanted my room back, he said there was nothing he could do. He said he could not move them out but someone moved me out and I have already paid for a two-week stay. I will be late for work tomorrow because this needs to be addressed. And I will seek some type of legal redress. Don't Do It, if you don't absolutely have to. I am warning you now DON'T. And if by chance you do, when you leave the room take all your belongings with you. Absolute 2nd worst...
Read moreAt 72 years old, my expectations in a motel may be different from those of younger guests. My generation remembers a time when motels were operated in a manner that was consistent with American standards of cleanliness and respect.
That being said, this sorry excuse for a business in "Canton/Livonia", my home town, had to be the single worst motel I have ever stayed at and at my age, that is saying a lot!
I realize that while the excuse of "independent ownership" seems to absolve a business of responsibility in court, does it really in the court of public opinion???
By flying the "flag" of TRAVELODGE, a potential guest expects a certain level of quality, cleanliness and amenities. We expect that an "independent owner" failing these standards, would have their "flag" removed, regardless of profitability to the parent company.
I actually left out that their were many holes in the walls, no Kleenex in the dispenser and the floor was filthy.
This place was unkempt. The lobby was locked with supplies strewn all over it. There was a bulletproof glass separation despite this city being a low crime area.
Staff collected a $50 cash "deposit" in addition to the room rental. This was refunded at check out, but makes one wonder as to the purpose.... no one checked my room to see if there was any damage. Perhaps they hope guests "forget" the deposit when they check out. The walkways had trash in them and the stairwells had stains (urine?) in them and smelled like urine. My room did NOT have a clothing rod or hangers. The television had some 6 channels, none of them a "weather" channel. There were many holes in the walls, no Kleenex in the dispenser and the floor was filthy.
Several south Indian men stood outside the entry constantly, smoking and talking loudly in a foreign language. Very intimidating to a new arrival, particularly women.
The room WAS clean.
The TRAVELODGE free breakfast was something "we do not offer" and there was no plain coffee creamer as "we do not use that".
My overall impression was that the management was cutting every possible amenity and corner in order to "save" money in order to earn a corporate bonus at our expense. The $50 cash deposit was troubling, as if forgotten by the guest, there was no record of it kept for TRAVELODGE to audit.
While we have become accustomed to this south Asian regional "frugality" in the last 30 years or so, this motel is the poster child for the "Patel Motel"...
