My family was on vacation and stayed at Comfort Inn Carneys Point, NJ 7/9/22 - 7/13/22. Because we were with other family and wanted to focus on enjoying the trip we didn't change hotels after the first night....had it just been us we would have. I hope by sharing this feedback it can help in making improvements to this location. We do not plan on returning or recommending anyone to stay at this location. I am sending this in email to the location and also here as we did not receive a feedback email from Choice Hotels. Not does our account reflect this stay which means no points as well.||||First day: ||The first impression was "ick" as we drove up and saw how unkept the outside landscaping looked. Then we noticed the cigarette butts all around the trash can just outside the front doors. The lobby was ok although dated (velvet couch and chairs.) The breakfast area was locked which didn't allow our group to have a place to gather to visit while at the hotel.||When we returned after dinner out we found the sofa bed in our room did not have sheets, pillow or a blanket/comforter for our son to sleep. We noted 3 on our reservation. The phone in our room did not work and was for room 102 according to the label but we were in room 308l. My husband went down to the front desk to retrieve the items we needed and also asked for firm pillows as we had asked on the reservation. He was then told they do not have any firm pillows at the hotel. So no comfort for us as we were stuck with soft pillows which causes our heads to itch and get hot.||||Second day: ||We received the card to request items we'd like in the room. We received everything we asked for. Noticed the elevator had the same mess in it as the day before. Breakfast was ok. Omlettes were like airplane quality.||||Third day: ||Did not receive a card to request items. Stopped at front desk to let them know what we needed in our room. Saw breakfast was the same as the day before. There were some mornings you had to wait for the items to be restocked. Upon returning to the hotel we did not have the items we needed in our room. Phone was still not working. My husband went down to get the items we needed. Some time that night we heard loud talking in the hall and cursing.||||Fourth day: ||Third floor smelled of cigarette smoke when we exited the elevator (which still had the same mess in it as the first day.) We went into our room and called the front desk from my personal phone letting them know of the smoke smell on the 3rd floor. The clerk said she couldn't do much but try to locate who was smoking. The room then began to smell of the cigarette smoke. We discussed changing hotels the next day but we had a busy day planned so we decided to just push through one more night.||||Fifth day: ||We were woke up at 6:30am by a man yelling out curse words down the hall of our floor. We were glad to check out that morning and be on our way. We skipped the boring mundane breakfast in the unsanitary hotel and decided to eat at a restaurant.||||General comments||The hotel promotes reusing your towels but does not provide towel bars to help with that request.||The hotel only had 1 working ice machine.||The cleanliness of the hotel was lacking...especially high touch surfaces.||There was the same mess on the trash can in the breakfast area and in the elevator from our first day to our last.||Bathroom tub was in need of maintenance.||Expanding foam was in a corner of our room and when we looked closer we could see there was a gap in the floor. Not sure what that was about.||Basic upkeep and maintenance of the property was lacking.||||We sent an email and contacted Choice Hotels about our stay and have not had any response 4 days after as of the time of...
Read moreIf you are in town for the Hope Creek or Salem outage I highly recommend NOT STAYING HERE. I really hate leaving negative reviews but there was no other alternate with this place. I arrive and their system says my card is denied. I gave them my card info with the understanding that they would take the $100 deposit the next day. 2 weeks go by and I didn't hear anything and I assumed they took the payment. Well I then get a call at work and they tell me I am locked out of my room bc the card was denied for the deposit they were supposed to take weeks ago. I end up leaving work 4 hours early just to get it sorted out. Another week goes by and I notice they randomly took $83 from my account. I confronted them and they "texted the owner". While waiting for a reply I notice they then drain my bank account and take an additional $458 dollars out of nowhere. They text and try to call the owner with no response and when I checked back later I was told it was reversed and my money should go back on instantly. Here I am over 24 hours later with no money while I am 10 hours away from home. I have no money to eat on, get gas for work, do laundry or anything. I work 72 hours a week and they ruined my ONE off day. Now they are telling me it'll be days before I get my money back from something that was THEIR FAULT! I will never stay here again when I am working in the area. It has been nothing but trouble from the start. The owner has not reached out to me or showed up since taking the last of my money. Clearly they do not care how their mistakes affect other people. There are plenty of people with my company that stay here every outage and I am going to make sure that my employer knows to sway our workers from staying here in the future. Their impotence is going to cost them a lot of potential profit over this bc they are going to lose a ton of business from other workers like myself. There's no excuse for taking someone's money for no apparent reason and it should not take days for them to make it right. I am also reaching out to the comfort inn corporate offices over this because they have put me in such a tough spot here being this far away from home. Trust me, do not give this place your card info! I do not even have the money pending back to my bank account and it is looking like I will be forced to call the police and fill out a police report if my money is not...
Read moreI have stayed at Choice Hotels a lot and, while they are sometimes tired properties, they have usually been clean overall. On Saturday night, I was traveling from Philadelphia, PA to Wilmington, DE and decided to stop for the night when I-95 ground to a complete halt due to construction and an accident further down the highway. It was late when I got in and I was about ready to collapse. When I walked into my room, I smelled a sour smell like old sweat socks. I figured the room was just unused for a while, so opened the window (which opened all the way, by the way) and turned on the fan to air the room out. I did the usual bedbug check and unpacked so I could get my work done and turn in for the night. I got down to work.
When I later went into the bathroom, I saw why the room smelled so bad. The smell was even stronger in the bathroom. There was a long hair on the toilet, between the toilet seat's hinges. That is not earth-shattering - after all, people shed hairs. However, there was also an accumulation of urine and who knows what else around the hinges on the toilet. The underside of the toilet seat was also stained. There were mystery stains on the wallpaper outside the bathroom.
No, I did not contact the front desk about it. It was quite late by then and I was already unpacked. I just treated the toilet like it was in a public bathroom and made the best of it. I have geocoded photos of all this and will be forwarding them to Choice Hotels. I still can't believe housekeeping would allow a bathroom to get to this point - it was visibly filthy and smelled terrible. This wasn't something missed by housekeeing -- this was an accumulation of filth.
The front desk associate was sympathetic at checkout, especially after he saw the photos I showed him. He discounted the room by $20, but said I should contact the manager when he was back...
