Well below average for a Holiday inn Express.
I have always considered Holiday Inn as a close second choice when traveling for business. This stay may cause me to reevaluate that... and not in a good way. I'm going to assume you've stayed at Holiday Inn Express before and only mention things that seem out of the ordinary, good or bad (so I'm not going to complain about the high def TV with only low def stations or the horrible cinnamon scented toiletries because that is what you expect from this chain and most hotels in this price range).
Pros: -Close to the interstate -Very comfortable, firm bed with multiple pillow options -Thick curtains are helpful for day-sleepers -Internet speeds were acceptable if not fast (I was using during non-peak hours so your mileage may vary) -Front desk staff was pleasant (surprising in New Jersey)
Cons: -High price for a room considering the um... rural and uh.. economically challenged area. -There is no onsite fitness room/center, you have to drive several miles to a local gym if you want to work out (exactly what a tired business traveler wants: to get back in the car to go get a work out). You may consider this a Pro if you prefer to find a local gym rather than use a hotel fitness center, as you don't have to pay the $10 to Join "Jersey Fitness" for the month. -The towels were the worst I have seen at a hotel costing more than $40/night. They were rough and often threadbare. This is particularly odd, because every other Holiday Inn Express I've stayed at had very nice towels. -Even though I let them know at the front desk I was working nights from 7pm to 7am and would be sleeping during the day, on two separate occasions, both when I admittedly forgot the "do not disturb" sign, the cleaning lady was at my door screaming (and I do mean SCREAMING) "HOUSEKEEPING" around 11am. Who needs REM sleep, right? -Related to the previous, I was told the cleaning folks would be by "first thing" since I was working nights, but they seldom arrived before I went to bed ~8am, so my room was only cleaned about once a week. -You have to get quarters for the laundry machines. Seriously, just charge me an extra dollar or two a day for the room and don't nickel and dime me with the washing machine and dryer. It isn't about the money, it's about the inconvenience of procuring a roll of quarters to do a couple of loads of laundry every week.
I realize this sounds like a lot of bad points, but I stayed here for over a month, so I had more than the average amount of time to accumulate annoyances with this hotel, so keep that in mind. The hotel wasn't a complete pit, and if you're only staying a short while, the beds are excellent and it is clean, but there are many areas they...
Read moreSafety issues! 3 men dressed in navy blue knocked on my door on 3 separate occasions between 10am-11am demanding access to my room. One man identified them as maintenance. I advised them that I was getting dressed to check out and that could come in when I left. They left for 20 minutes and came back. I opened the door and saw three men standing there hovering over my door. I asked him what was so urgent that the front desk could not contact me about, and he said “All this time you’re taking, I could’ve been done”. I told him I did not feel comfortable letting them into my room! I told him to have the front desk call me and he said no. 15 minutes later the phone rang. I tried to answer it but the phone did not work! I then heard knocking again for a third time! I dressed, gathered my items and opened the door. Those same 3 men were standing there. The man who said that I was going to another hotel, I was stupid, and that my daughter, who was actually my sister, should be embarrassed. This was very upsetting as he went back and forth. I went down to the front desk demanding his name because of how disrespectful he was, and the agent said that she didn’t know his name! The 3 men followed us to the lobby and tried defending the situation. He kept arguing with me in front of the agent. The agent still did not tell me why they needed access to my room while I was present. I then asked for the manager. She said he wasn’t there. I told her I would wait and took a seat in the lobby. The manager came from the back in 60 seconds. I asked to speak with him away from the agent and “maintenance workers”. I asked him who the man was, and he said he was a contracted worker who does not have the guest list. I asked him why was he banging on my door with my do not disturb sign on. He could not answer. I told him about the cruel and disrespectful things he said to me. I asked for compensation and he immediately refused. He did not understand the security threat against me. I filed a ticket with corporate and am awaiting answers. The management team lied blantanly in their statement. I will copy this message and post it everywhere that ask...
Read moreI used the app to book my room. I called the hotel to request an early check because we have to leave early in the morning to beat traffic getting of the Long Island and a 34 mile ride takes 1 1/2 - 2 hours or longer. It turns out I booked the wrong day. The staff member changed my reservation to the correct day but was very rude. Requested the early check in and was told she couldn't do that and hung up with out a word. Called the reservation phone number and got it straighten out and was able to request the early check in. Upon arrival 2 hours before check in and a 4 hour drive we found out our room wasn't ready which was a first at a holiday inn property. She was suprised to even see the request in the computer. Yes I understand that sometimes they can't accommodate the request but at other IHG properties the request was granted. No apologies were given and we were just told to call later in the day. We left and returned 10 minutes after the check in time. No apologies for any inconvenience no recognition on my member status or that I was even a member another 1st at a holiday inn. We were also suprised that the property was under going a renovation. Even after calling yhe hotel we were never told. Like to be for warned. To be fair the room was clean and roomy. Missing the additional security lock but we only stay one night and it wasn't a big deal. Never used the wifi because we were never given the password. For the most part the staff was friendly but some seemed like the just didn't want...
