I booked a room here back in April. I was traveling by myself. Very unusual hotel experience from the get go. The entrance was a very long uphill drive on the side of the building that brings you to a parking lot that looks like the back of the building. There were plenty of abandoned buildings on the street leading up to this old armory. But the parking lot is on the side and looks very debilitated. There were two or three prime spots right near the door, but security wise it would not have mattered. So to say the least between the town and the drive up and the crappy parking lot, I was already not impressed. I entered in the two big red doors which I assumed was the front entrance. There was a young red haired man behind the counter. There was no one else around. I went to my room down a hall and I just got a bad unsafe feeling. There were multiple signs in the room that said they are not responsible for any valuables. And there was a big space under the front door. It gave me the feeling like it wasn't secure. I went back within a half hour and a different person was at the front desk, an older woman. I told her that I would not be staying at the hotel. Between the parking lot and there being no one around and I saw their "security", two old tiny tv's behind the lady at the front desk. When asked what is the security and what would happen if she saw something happen on those cameras, which she was paying no attention to, she said she would call the cops. It is not the experience someone traveling alone would like. I am not a fan of those chain hotels but I left to go stay at one of them. And Amsterdam refused to give me any money back and I had paid for three nights!!! I was there a half hour. I understand not getting the money back for that night, and even the second night, but the 24 hour cancellation policy should have worked for the 3rd night. I don't understand, don't you want your guests to leave feeling relieved and treated well? This operation is old and needs an overhaul to bring up to standards of a basic holiday inn. Don't stay if you are looking for any BASIC amenities that hotels offer. I would have appreciated a return on my money for some of this very disappointing experience. ...
Read morehorrible experience on my wedding day. I checked in the day before my wedding on a Friday with my wedding dress, flower girl and maid of honor and spoke to the owner myself and explained that we booked the room for 2 nights so myself and 4 girls could get ready for my wedding, the only ones staying overnight would be myself and my groom. asked him about having my photographer take pictures around the castle of myself and 4 girls, the owner said no problem and even tried to upgrade us to bigger room because it was my wedding. needless to say the first night my dress was the only thing that stayed in the room.( we stayed home) the next day my bridal party came to the room to get ready and that's when the horrible experience began. we asked for ice and was told there was ice trays in the mini fridge. well we needed more ice, asked for some more and was given a zip lock bag with some ice and was told "that's it no more ice", then someone in my wedding party was told by the owner " people pay thousands of dollars for a wedding here and we only rented a room" also my photographer was told something similar. well of course I was told about this and I had to have a conversation with the owner on my wedding day in my wedding dress about how rude he treated my wedding party. I asked why did he tell me the day before there was no issues then the day of my wedding be so rude? well the owners tells me that my wedding party was not very honorable for telling me because he said to tell me after the wedding and it's kinda hard to say no to someone's face. I'm so disgusted with my experience at this beautiful place on my wedding day. it's a very beautiful place but terrible terrible customer service. I have never been treated so rude at a place I paid to stay at. I would understand if I just took went and did what I wanted BUT because I spoke the the owner and explained my intentions the day before makes this experience horrible. so I will never forget my experience...

I booked a Junior Suite for 2 nights at this hotel. The room appeared very clean and was quite large for what I was expecting. I found it odd that a white noise maker was provided in the room, but I would soon discover why. I also noticed a letter left by hotel staff in the room that urged quiet hours between 10pm and 8am, a low level TV volume, and consideration of other travelers. Of course, these are all things I agreed with and abided by, but it made me wonder why such a letter was needed in the first place.
The walls are paper thin. The first night, I could easily hear conversations on the street right outside my window as residences are quite close. I could also hear people walk through their rooms and the hallway.
The second night, at around 11:00pm, the room adjacent to mine began to have a party. It was occupied by drunk guests who moved furniture, ran across the “quaint” wood flooring, and threw objects against the wall. I approached the night manager and requested to be placed in a different room. He asked if I had spoken to the guests myself. As a female traveling alone, I had not. He offered to speak with them, which he did. The response from these guests clearly showed they were drunk and disorderly, including vulgar language.
The noise, including the throwing of objects against the wall, promptly returned as the night manager walked away. He did return to my room just before midnight to give me a key to a different room.
When I went to check out the next morning, these guests were still occupying the room.
I have a problem with a hotel that caters to such a disorderly crowd, allowing it, while expecting and instructing its other patrons to abide by the rules of normal respectful behavior. This situation was not only a reflection of the hotel’s greed (wanting to collect their nightly rate without kicking them out), but also allowance of a potentially...
