Here's a classic baked bean recipe with a few tweaks to make it extra delicious:
Best-Ever Baked Beans Recipe
Ingredients:
1 pound dried navy beans, soaked overnight and drained 1 pound smoked bacon, cut into 1-inch pieces 2 medium onions, chopped 3 cloves garlic, minced 1 cup ketchup 1 cup beef broth 2 tablespoons brown sugar 1 teaspoon ground mustard 1 teaspoon ground cumin Salt and pepper, to taste 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley (optional)
Instructions:
Preheat your oven to 250°F (120°C). In a large Dutch oven or oven-safe pot, cook the bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove the bacon from the pot with a slotted spoon and set it aside on a paper towel-lined plate. Leave the drippings in the pot. Add the chopped onions to the pot and cook until they're softened and translucent, about 5-7 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute. Add the soaked and drained navy beans, ketchup, beef broth, brown sugar, mustard, cumin, salt, and pepper to the pot. Stir until everything is well combined. Cover the pot with a lid and transfer it to the preheated oven. Bake the beans for 6-8 hours, or until they're tender and the liquid has thickened into a rich, saucy consistency. After 6 hours, remove the pot from the oven and stir in the cooked bacon. Return the pot to the oven and continue baking for an additional 30 minutes to 1 hour, or until the beans are coated in the rich, bacony sauce. Remove the pot from the oven and let the beans cool slightly before serving. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley, if desired.
Tips and Variations:
Use canned navy beans if you prefer a quicker cooking time. Add a ham hock or a few slices of cooked ham to the pot for added smokiness. Use different types of beans, such as pinto or kidney beans, if you prefer. Add a splash of apple cider vinegar or a pinch of smoked paprika to give the beans a unique flavor twist. Make the beans in a slow cooker: Simply brown the bacon and cook the onions in a skillet, then transfer everything to the slow cooker with the remaining ingredients and cook on low for 8-10 hours.

Read moreFor years my family and I have been camping at this campground and have always loved it there. Over the last few years it has tremendously gone down hill. The bathroom/shower facilities are awful unless your on the very top level where group camping is and you get a private code to get to use those but only if your group camping and those facilities are in way better shape, you get lousy restrooms/showers down below and for the same price. Only one shower works in the womens and theres a stall in the restroom thats nailed shut besides the fact that there not clean ever. I think that this park/campground makes alot of money as it is always packed and you have to reserve a site months in advance they need some upgrades desperately to keep up with the many campers. Also the kids playground has changed as well, they used to have a boat, playfort and swings, merry-go-round etc. They have removed all those things for safety reasons I'm sure but replaced it with a play structure not suitable for all aged kids and tire pieces are what you stand in, which allows kids to have a throwing war of all the pieces. Its terrible, my granddaughters were victims in an all boys war as they were hit trying to dodge the tire pieces. Really need to rethink their playground and equipment so that all aged kids can enjoy it. Bastendorff is my familys favorite place to camp, the view is amazing and so are the campsites and cabins. We will continue to come here but really strongly will be hoping they get the upgrades they so...
Read moreThis campground is the most amazing place ever. My family has been coming here for nearly 50 years. My grandparents loved coming here in their late 80's. I'm now bringing my children here. My siblings bring their children here as well. We live in Utah. We travel here and purposely choose to stay HERE because of the location to beach, deep sea fishing business, clamming, town fun, city fun, laundry, safe fun park in campground (miss the boat and merry go round)- newly updated. This campground is well maintained, hot showers, clean flushing toilets, great privacy around most camp sites (some newer ones are more open, less shade/privacy). I almost don't want to let everybody know about this special place. It's getting harder and harder to get reservations. But I saw some negative reviews. And people need to know how WRONG those reviews are. Most of the camp hosts are incredibly helpful and kind. They work all day to make the place great! (If someone had difficulty with them, it may have been a bad...
