If you have respiratory sensitivity, asthma, allergies to cleaning products, industrial fragrances, or mildew, you should not stay here.
I stayed here, so you don't have to. As an IHG Member, this was pretty disappointing.
THE BAD:
The elevators have some kind of wood or cedar industrial fragrance.
When walking down the hallway when I was looking for my room, a device on the wall sprayed some kind of industrial fragrance into the air near me. As I walked farther away from it toward then end of the hall way, the scent wasn't as strong and I could smell the mildew in the hall carpet that it is being used to mask.
It burned and irritated my lungs.
When I entered the room, it had a strong woody smell similar to cedar. It was unnaturally strong and again, irritated my respiratory system.
I walked into the rest room and at its far end, I could easily smell the strong mildew smell.
Walking further into the room, I could smell the heavy mildew being masked by whatever chemicals they use. The longer I was in the room, the stronger the mildew smell came out. It's overwhelmingly strong and reminds me of several low budget hotels I endured, mentioned in my other reviews.
I chose this hotel based on Google Reviews, but this one time I skipped checking its Yelp Reviews, which in my experience tend to gave a pretty good insight.
To non-sensitive people, the room, elevator will probably smell like new carpentry and be tolerable, maybe even enjoyable. But to those with allergies or asthma, the irritation is going to be miserable, either from the irritation to your lungs, asthma or strong smell.
The bed was firm and lumpy
The pillows were long which is good but ultimately lumpy and uncomfortable.
NOISE: With the air conditioner off to help reduce the poor air quality, the traffic noise outside was moderately loud .
I decided to skip breakfast to make up sleep for the time I woke up coughing from the poor room air, but then housekeeping pounded at my or the neighborhood door waking me up at 9:10 AM.
I tried to go back to sleep, but the moment I laid down again, ongoing hammering began somewhere in the building, vibrating the pillows, bed and simply being loud knocking.
THE GOOD:
The rooms are spacious, big restroom and shower, nice decor.
The mini-refrigerator has a divided freezer section which is always a plus. The over all building inside and out is well maintained and attractive.
The front desk employees I encountered were very friendly, as were all the guests I encountered.
There was a decent size tv, but it had a very limited selection of channels. Very basic cable, Only movie channels I found were Syfy and FX.
Air conditioner worked well, but I turned it off. I'm not sure if that was a good idea or bad idea, because after I turned it off, the strong chemical and mildew smells were over powering.
They offer the typical full egg and sausage breakfast that many Holiday Inn's and other hotels have.
FINAL THOUGHTS
For the price, I could of gotten a cheaper motel with clean air and a better nights sleep. I'm a member of all the hotel chains.. I chose a Holiday Inn Suite expecting higher quality and better night sleep since I am on the road in between states. I made a mistake and wasted more money than I...
Read moreI had an extremely rough night sleeping on my first night of my stay due to noise disturbances, and in the morning requested a new room on a higher floor. Front desk staff wasn't yet on site for the day and I had to work all day. I later received a voicemail stating that my request could be accommodated and to call the front desk back. When I called the front desk back around lunch, the manager I had spoken to said that they've already assigned me a new room and asked when I would be able to come back to move my belongings to the new room. I told her I was working all day, and that I would be back in the evening to move my belongings myself. When she asked if I wanted them to move my things for me, I said absolutely not and that I will do that when I'm back. She said okay, and stated, "I don't know how that will work with housekeeping but I will call you back" which I didn't know what that meant. I never received a call. When I arrived back at the hotel that evening, I came to find out that hotel staff entered my room against my wishes and moved everything to the new room. My clothes were thrown into a trash bag, toiletries and groceries I had laying out were handled in an unknown manner, and my remaining items were found in a pile on the couch in the new room. When I brought up the concern with the on-duty manager, she called the owner Mr. Kumar Mayank and he promptly arrived. He apologized and offered me 10,000 IHG rewards points or $100 to treat myself to dinner. I did not accept his offer because 1) I wasn't sure that I would be booking any future stays with IHG after this incident, 2) I had not had proper time to think if this was an appropriate measure given that my privacy was violated, and 3) neither of those options would even replace one nights stay at an IHG hotel in the future given the price, had I decided to book another one. I later inquired with the front desk to request a written copy of their hotel policies and procedures, as I wanted to understand further if the actions taken by the hotel was in direct violation. The now on-site manager stated that the hotel does not operate under any written policies in absolutely any regard and operates 100% under "common sense" only. The only policy agreement between the hotel and the guest is presented at the time of check-in and refers only to room damages, pet fees, and things of that nature.
I could understand if the hotel needed to book my old room as it was approaching the new years holiday. Not only was this not vocalized or communicated to me, but upon my arrival back at the hotel of the night of the incident, my keys to the original room were still valid meaning that the room had not been assigned a new guest. Additionally, I observed guests without reservations coming in while having my conversation with Mr. Kumar Mayank in the hotel lobby, despite him telling me falsely that the hotel was fully booked at that time. I confirmed there were still rooms available after our conversation by checking online. I opened a claim with IHG Customer Care and it has yet to be resolved as...
