I recently had the unfortunate experience of visiting the Cracker Barrel in Denton, Texas, and my overall impression left much to be desired. From the moment I approached the establishment, I was hesitant due to its outdated aesthetics, and unfortunately, my reservations were only intensified throughout my visit.

Opting for a to-go order seemed like the safest bet given my initial reluctance to step inside, so I placed my order online and selected a space number for pickup. However, the process quickly took a turn for the worse as my food never arrived at my designated space. After waiting for what felt like an eternity, I decided to venture inside the restaurant to inquire about my order. To my dismay, it took almost two hours for me to finally receive the food I had ordered a mere 40 minutes prior to my arrival.

Understanding the challenges that can arise in the restaurant industry, I tried to remain patient and was even thanked for my understanding by the staff. However, the tone of my experience shifted dramatically during an unexpected and uncomfortable conversation with the cashier. Despite my intention to avoid any further awkwardness, she took it upon herself to comment on my natural locs, sharing a seemingly unrelated story about an African braiding her hair. This interaction left me feeling uneasy and out of place.

As if that wasn't enough, the final blow came from the manager, an elderly lady, who decided to express her opinions on sports and patriotism as she handed me my to-go order. To my disbelief, she mentioned that she had stopped watching sports because, in her words, "blacks have been disrespecting the flag." I felt compelled to explain that I have family members who have served in the military, making her comments particularly insensitive and unnecessary.

This encounter left a sour taste in my mouth, and I can't help but feel that my reluctance to visit Cracker Barrel in the first place was validated. The atmosphere and comments made by the staff seemed reminiscent of a bygone era, and I left with the distinct impression that this restaurant was stuck in a time warp, reminiscent of the 1920s.

Well, I was not going to write a review of my experience at this place on 10/5/24. But, they sent me an email wanting to know how was my experience. It was not very good compared to the Barrel in Grapevine. First, there were enough available tables to place us in. But, they placed us right in the middle of two tables that had heavy set people. My friend that was with me is of the same caliber. And I’m a tall person myself. So this made it to where you couldn’t move at all. We asked to be seated at a different table due to this. They didn’t make it easy for us to change tables, but at the end they did. As soon as we sat at our new table that server asked what we wanted to drink. We asked for coffee and an appetizer to start. The coffee came out somewhat fast, but the server while serving the coffee splashed all our napkins with the coffee. The server was aware of it since it was obvious what happened. However, didn’t apologize or replaced the napkins. A good while had passed and we asked for more coffee since we had finished the first cup. Well, this time we got coffee splashed again but not as bad. However, this time the coffee was cold. lol. At this point it’s inevitable that things were not going to get better. After another long while the server finally makes a presence and informed us that our appetizer will be out with our meal!!! I don’t know if you can call it an appetizer at this point. So, eventually both meals and the “appetizer” get served at the same time. Both, my meal and my friend’s meal are cold as can be. And both meals are ment to be hot plates. I withheld from letting my friend know that the my meal was cold also. I did not want to damper the mood any more. However, my friend did inform the server that the food was cold. The server took it back and then returned with a plate that was overly hot and had condensation. They had microwaved the same food. It was way too hot to eat at this point. When you go out to eat and pay good money to get fresh food prepared and served, that’s what you expect. If we wanted microwaved food we can do it at home. After we got served we did not see the server for another long time. And only saw the server to let us know that our check was on the way. It was a miserable experience to say the least.
