Had an excellent stay at the Mossbrae. My arrival ended up being very late but I received a message with check-in instructions earlier in the evening, and the process was quick and easy so I was able to enter and get into my room and go straight to sleep without any issues. I extended one night without a hitch (my room was still available prior to my extension, of course). The Wi-Fi worked great, tv had accounts for multiple streaming services logged in and ready to go, I always travel with an Amazon Fire Stick and I did not need it at all for entertainment this trip. Thermostat/heating worked well and I was never cold (staying mid-Jan). The room was very clean and the bed was super comfortable, the bathroom was also very nice, with two sinks and a super deep tub (my favorite part). Coffee maker came with all necessities, including a jar of actual ground coffee, and it was a real coffee maker with filters provided so I was able to make the coffee I had brought, and the refrigerator had little half and half cups inside. There were hangers in the closet, which I recently realized are not always provided. I stayed in a King room which was definitely worth the rate. I was able to communicate with staff by texting the number that sent me the check - in info, and check - out was just as easy. Location made walking everywhere I needed to go within Dunsmuir possible and there was a park down the street I walked my dog to each morning. I drove and found parking out front every time, and I saw it was also right down the street from Amtrak, which I enjoyed hearing the train sounds from when I had my window open. The train was not too loud at all, and being able to hear it seemed to be an appropriate touch to staying in an old historic town. A great stay and I will definitely stay here again when I am...
Read morePositive: The people who have recently remodelled this hotel clearly care about all aspects of the guest experience. The well designed, contemporary interior blends beautiful historical features, such as restored 1920’s wood flooring, with a modern contemporary twist throughout. The new fittings, such as those in the bathroom, are of very high quality. It has delightful rooms and suites, all with a home-from-home vibe (if you have a very nice home!). The location, in the town Center, is great, and there is a good choice of non-chain restaurants within a short walk. I would definitely stay again. The town is a gem. When we stayed (Jan 2020) there was an overnight snow storm; the Manager helped us with every aspect of our onward journey, including sourcing snow chains, accessing highways’ news, and even helping us clear snow from the car, she cannot be praised highly enough. The quality of a hotel experience is ultimately governed by its staff.. Negative: We parked right outside, overnight, and with no cost, it was ideal, but I guess parking could be a minor issue at busier times. There is no restaurant in the hotel, but this makes sense given the town center location and the choice of places to eat within a short walk. The Manager leaves the hotel in the early evening, but 24hr access is granted by a modern access code system. This presented no issues for us, especially as the Manager is very diligent in communicating with (and advising) inbound guests who may arrive late. Plus she...
Read moreWhat a fabulous old hotel! We went to Dunsmuir on New Year's Eve for a concert at the Wheelhouse (Jason Dea West and the Siskiyou Crest) and our stay at the Mossbrae was the cherry on top of a magnificent adventure! The rooms were so cozy and nicely furnished. The hotel is a welcoming mix of historical and modern. Beautiful woodwork, luxurious bedding and so many amazing details from the cast iron door stopper to the vintage bathroom sinks and light fixtures. Downtown Dunsmuir is a similar mix of historic and modern and the hotel really captured the vibe of this sleepy, yet somewhat sophisticated town. I genuinely loved this hotel! There were so many captivating details that it almost makes me forget to mention the amenities. In room coffee and French press. Extra pillows and blankets, plenty of soaps personal care items in the bathroom too..not to mention radiant heat in the bathroom floors!!! The only reason I don't give the hotel 5 stars is because there was no hot water in the shower in the morning! My husband got all ready to shower and dang it! The hot water never materialized. It was a small thing, but also a big thing. Still not enough of anything to ever prevent me from returning! In our haste to get on the road in the morning I forgot to leave a tip for the housekeeper and I am regretful of that. The place was sparkling and great care was taken. Next time I wont forget! Thank...
