I got married in Dunsmuir this past August 17 of 2025. I live in southern California. I started my wedding planning a whole year in advance. In September I made calls and sent out emails to all the business that I wanted to be a part of my special day. Bee Kind Bakery was at the top of my list. I fell in love with the photos I saw online and their menus on their website. I thought "Now this is a business woman that cooks and knows flavors". So needless to say, I was very excited to inquire about my Wedding Cake.
Their website says to contact Brandy (The Owner) at the business' email address. I emailed her on September 8th 2024, giving her an introduction to myself and our Wedding trip, as well as some cake ideas that we were interested in pursuing. I had even mentioned that we were planning a weekend trip in February 2025 to meet with businesses for the wedding and that I would love to book a consultation/tasting with her when we solidified a date. We corresponded with a couple more emails for little things, and in the last email I sent, I told her I would call in December to confirm at date for the tasting/consultation.
I gave her a call in December to make the appointment, like I had emailed, but over the phone she seemed to be unsure of who I was and felt as if I was speaking to her for the first time. I brushed it off. It was the holiday season and as a small business owner, I am sure that she was swamped.
February came and I had the whole weekend planned for wedding planning. We were set to meet her on a Saturday the 22nd at 10am. I showed up with my Fiance and my Mom, we got there early and enjoyed a nice light breakfast.
We met with Brandy and her assistant, both of whom had notebooks for notes. She jumped into what we were looking to get for the wedding cake and she brought this plastic sign that had their flavors and filling, like she has listed on her website. I was a little confused because, again, it felt like we had never spoken before. So I gave her a refresher of what we wanted and I had told her, in that meeting, I had emailed her back in September. Her response, "Oh? I am so sorry I never emailed you back, I have a hard time keeping up with my emails.". To which I replied "No, you did email me back, a couple of times.". She seemed confused but didn't press the subject more, and that was when my Mom interjected and asked about samples, as this was supposed to be a tasting. "Oh, we don't have samples, but you are more than welcome to purchase a cupcake from the case.". I was let down, I had really wanted the full experience of a Wedding Cake consultation/tasting. I didn't have the luxury of going to Dunsmuir to have all the meetings spread out, that is why I emailed her so early.
First, the cake itself. I wanted Chocolate with berries and cream filling. The Second, a cheesecake as a Grooms cake. We asked for a pineapple, mango, coconut cheesecake.
Our big ask, was that we wanted a Sun and Moon theme. I expressed that I wanted the cake to be shaped like a Crescent Moon and the cheesecake could be a little Sun to accompany it. Our whole Wedding was just 16 people, so nothing tiered or large for either cakes.
Brandy and I corresponded a few times after. Once for confirmation that we still needed a cake. Another to ask for an invoice and to clarify when/if she could deliver the cake. I called the last week of July but she was so busy I could tell she was rushing me off the phone. In the last emails we shared, she expressed that she forgot the details of the cheesecake and asked me to remind her.
The cake itself was not what I ordered. She gave us a spice cake, with a mango pineapple filling. The motif of the cake was perfect, but she gave us two spice cakes in the Sun & Moon theme, and the cheese cake became a third cake.
I felt like I did everything I could to have the Wedding cake I wanted. She was never truly present in communicating and clearly lost her notes or failed to refer to our emails. Brightside, the cheesecake was delicious. Even though I don't...
Read moreBrandy and her team at Bee Kind Catering in Dunsmuir, CA delivered exactly the wedding reception dinner and Sunday brunch we were hoping for. They were professional, brought a positive can-do and joyful approach to the whole job, arrived right on time to set up, and shared space with another caterer beautifully. Bee Kind prepped and served marinated, grilled tri-tip, mashed potatoes, green beans and a salmon nicoise salad buffet style at our wedding. They also served up delightful flaky, buttery little pastries from their bakery, each about three or four bites, that hit the spot perfectly for brunch the day after our wedding. They locally sourced most of the ingredients and the food was abundant and top notch. If you are looking for a no fuss, competent, high-quality catering team for your event in Northern California, we highly recommend Bee Kind Catering. We would absolutely put our trust in them to do another...
Read moreI don’t usually post reviews but this place is 10/10. I attempted to go grab some pastries with my 1 yr old and 2 yr old. It was pure chaos but they were patient with us and the woman helping us even offered to hold my baby while I put cream in my coffee and she was great with him. I decided to stay because of the great atmosphere and beautiful outdoor seating area, great for kids, she even gave us chalk to play with. My kid was having a really bad day and he was literally scaling the walls so I grabbed my kids and ran to put them in the car. Before I could go back and get our food the woman packaged our food up and brought it out to our car and checked on us. As a mom of really young kids it meant a lot to me to be seen and helped and treated so kindly instead of being a burden. A big thank you to this Bakery! We will definitely be back when the kids are in a...
