I don’t usually do 5 stars, realistically there’s always room to improve, but nobody wants to work now a days, every business is finding it hard to stay open. So, that being said… My mom and I come to the cat show at the New Jersey Convention Center, which hasn’t happened for the last 2 years or so. They finally opened it again this year so…ROAD TRIP! We did have to wait a couple of minutes for someone to come to the front desk because they are short staffed, which he did not say, that’s just par for the course I feel. Brett was super nice and very helpful. We only stayed one night and it was pricey since it was a Saturday in July. You’re only about 30-45 minutes from a nice beach there too. We picked Belmar beach to check out after the show. A lady at the show recommended that beach, it is nice. Now, back to the hotel. I don’t remember the lady’s name in the morning when we checked out but she was super nice as well. We were running a couple minutes late getting out of the room which they didn’t have a problem with. The room was clean and comfortable, plenty big enough, we shared a king bed and opted to get a room with a whirlpool tub (hence why it was more expensive). The pillows were the only thing I found uncomfortable but everyone is different with that sort of thing. The indoor pool was open though we didn’t have time to take advantage of that. A hot breakfast is very important to us and it did not disappoint. The only thing I missed was the waffles, they didn’t have any waffle machines but they had that awesome pancake machine and they were good! Scrambled eggs, bacon, toast, egg whites, cereals, juices, fruits, coffee, tea, pretty much the works. It was all very good too. The only problem we really had was getting something to eat the night before when we got there. They have room service and an extensive menu, but a bit costly. We usually just grab a pizza as it is usually quick and not too expensive. No Pizza Huts delivered so I finally went down to the lobby and asked Brett. He said that Michelangelo’s Pizzeria wasn’t far, and delivered to all the hotels around there frequently. The pizza was alright, not as good as the Franks Pizza in our area but not horrible. The guy called me and said he was only a couple minutes out, you have to meet them in the lobby, so I headed down. I left my phone on the charger in the room. Ten minutes later I finally asked Brett if I needed to meet them outside or something, no, they come in. He said they usually don’t run late. Twenty minutes later the guy finally shows up, mumbles something about the Hilton, apologizes, I tell him to keep the change and we part ways. Once back in the room my mom tells me that they called 2 or 3 times insisting that I was not in the lobby. Mom’s like oh yes she is and has been there about 15-20 minutes waiting. They went to the wrong hotel! Though I used my cell phone to call them the address for the hotel is right on the phone in the room and that’s what I gave them. We should have gotten a couple of bucks off but instead they got a normal tip because I didn’t know what was going on. Room service pizza would have only been maybe 4 more bucks so in hindsight… This Holiday Inn is only about 20 minutes, give or take with traffic from the Convention Center. I believe we have stayed there before and we will stay there again in the future! (Here’s a pic from the cat show, there are many rescues there as well! One from...
Read moreI am always using Holiday Inn because I am an IHG member and travel frequently for business and leisure. This was by far the most disappointing Holiday Inn experience. When I arrived, the lady to help us was sitting in the back office and didn't want to get up and move until she knew we needed assistance checking in. I asked about my AAA discount and she said she would be glad to give me the increased AAA rate. Who says that to a customer, I do not know AAA rates are higher than what I originally booked for. She said it twice to me as I explained I had no idea. She further complained that no one wants to work and she worked from 3pm until the next morning. When we arrived, since we were travelling, my partner needed to use the restroom, she said they are closed. The restrooms in the lobby are closed and were closed for my entire stay (which is where the pool was-I wasn't going into the pool downstairs with no bathroom access). We checked into the room, the toilet was making a noise and she said there was no maintenance on site and to "jiggle" the handle. No follow up on the toilet but it flushed I just dealt with the noise. The internet was slow and there was no option to upgrade to a faster speed, I was unable to access certain programs on my laptop. I told the desk and they mentioned they would look into it. Breakfast was terrible! Honestly, I don't know how they get away with selling days old wrinkly turkey sausage. It was disgusting. Bacon and real eggs were served on Sunday (my check out day). At least I am used to the muffins and bakery items that are always offered by Holiday Inn. Starting thursday night the halls had kids running, I asked for them to stop running but they were loud. Check out date, I was threatened to have my car towed, but there was no parking anywhere as the hotel was completely booked. Two other trucks were parked along side - was anything mentioned to them I wonder? The entire curb had vehicles, it was busy. I just tried to find a spot to park the car as people were tailgating right below my room window in the parking lot (and were also loud) but the hotel said nothing about them tailgating in the parking lot??. There was NO HOUSEKEEPING offered during my ENTIRE 7 NIGHT STAY. I asked the maid for toiletries from her cart in the hallway. I had ordered grub hub food and they do not allow for food deliveries to be delivered at the room door, so my food was sitting downstairs for 45 minutes, they did not even call me to notify me that it was dropped off and sitting on the lobby coffee table. I went downstairs to ask about it and found my food sitting on a table. Not one person smiled when helping me with the exception of Brett. I am so very disappointed with everything. I am hoping my Hilton experience in Daytona the beginning of August will be better. I gave two stars because the room was clean when I arrived. The lobby stayed clean as well. Also, I booked through Holiday Inn and do not even see my points. I know when I use AAA I don't receive points but since I did not get that discount then...

The highlighted section(s): contains inappropriate content Quick trip Overall had a nice stay at this hotel. Room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was as expected and area was managed well. My only issue, and this is the first time I've ever had to make a note about this, was during check in. The woman at the front desk was uncomfortably inconsiderate. I'm not overly crazy about being greeted by having someone roll out a red carpet to me. As someone who likes to stay with the IHG chain, there's some consistency with how the check-ins normally go. In this case, we waited while the front desk woman clicked on the computer directly in front of us without any eye contact or greeting. Once I gave my last name, she very abruptly slid the paper to sign across without any instructions and tossed a pen in my direction. She then gave us our room keys and pointed toward where the elevators where and just walked away. As we were heading toward the elevator with our bags, she called over to my daughters and I, and explained she was "ticked off" but in other language, about other employees at the hotel and how it was "bull" that they don't do their work. A bit later on we were on our way back to the car to get some other bags and I asked my daughters to see if we could get a complimentary toothpaste, and I listened as the same employee said, "What do you want now?" to my daughters before hastily giving them the toothpaste. Certainly not quite the level of consideration I've ever had to deal with before at an IHG hotel. I would still stay there again in the future though because the rest of the stay was...
