Marriott Residence Inn in Moncton, New Brunswick Dec 12,2023 - Jan 29, 2024
The Marriott Residence Inn in Moncton, NB , where faux luxury meets a touch of home-style dysfunction.
Imagine our surprise when our most recent work-related six-week stay in room 627 turned into an unexpected adventure in domestic troubleshooting. First off, the stove seemed to have taken a vow of non-cooperation, stubbornly refusing to perform its basic duties. Then, there was the leaky fridge, which evidently decided to join the stove in rebellion and needed a swift replacement. Not to be outdone, the waterlogged dishwasher threw in its towel, demanding a replacement of its own.
The pièce de résistance, however, was the king mattress. It had seen better days, sinking into despair and requiring a makeshift solution involving a board cut to size and slipped underneath, in a vain attempt to restore its former glory. The non-supportive couch, not wanting to feel left out, followed suit.
Weekends brought their own special kind of joy, with the hotel hallways transforming into a playground for the under-12 set. Impromptu hockey games and marathons, complete with screaming and stairwell races, as well as inebriated and absentee parents, added that special zest to our stay. Emailed complaints to the ever-surprised hotel manager, May Lee, were met with solutions that seemed as temporary as they were incredulous, as if each complaint was a novel revelation to her.
In essence, the Marriott Residence Inn in Moncton, NB offered a sturdy exterior with a hostel-like interior experience, lacking in the quality control one would expect of a North American hotel. It was an establishment where the unexpected became the norm, and the norm was anything but expected.
On a brighter note, the front desk staff and maintenance personnel were accommodating, and pleasant to deal with. They all...
Read moreCaution to people staying here with pets! We stayed at this hotel for 1 night while on our way up the East Coast. We arrived at the hotel after a very long drive - and were booked for a 1-bedroom suite. We have a pet, and the website indicated a $75 per stay charge for pets when we booked it. As we checked out early the next day, we didn't look at the bill until we got to our next destination, and noticed the pet charge was $200!. We called the front desk to ask why we were charged $200 (we stay at a lot of Marriott properties with our pet, and the charge is always $75-$100), and he indicated that they had "recently changed their fee to $200" and it was on the website. For a 1 night stay, the pet fee was as much as the room fee.
I told the front desk person exactly what the website says:
Pet Policy Pets Welcome
2 pets 50lbs max per room with $200.00 USD Non Refunable fee per room per stay
Non-refundable pet fee Per Stay: $75
Maximum pet weight: 50lbs
Maximum Number of Pets in Room: 2
Note that there are 2 different prices! The front desk person said there was nothing he could do about the contradiction in terms, or the $200 fee. When I asked to speak with a Supervisor, the desk clerk "went to see if he was available", and then said "I'm not sure if he's available, but I'll connect you and you can leave a message, which I did. I haven't received any response from the manager, almost a week later.
If we had been told when we were checking in about the $200 fee, we wouldn't have been happy, but finding out after the fact when looking at the bill doesn't seem very customer friendly. And if we had seen the $200 pet fee before booking a room, we would have gone somewhere else. We're very loyal to Marriott properties, but will never consider this hotel due to questionable policies. Very...

I called in my reservation to confirm that the hotel would allow me to do an early check-in. Given my elite status with BonVoy, they were happy to accommodate. Upon arrival to this brand new, stunning structure I was greeted by the front desk agent. We winded up chatting away for at least 5 minutes because she was just that friendly.
My room was the smallest room type offered here which is a Studio King suite, and let me just say, it is a very generous amount of space. Modern design and brand new furniture make for a very asthetically pleasing suite.
Complimentary hot breakfast was served each morning , as well as coffee which was kept fresh all during the day. Some additional amenities of the property which I've noticed/enjoyed are: free parking, Large indoor heated swimming pool, outdoor fire pit, outdoor BBQ area, patio, gym on site, guest laundry facilities with brand new equipment, grocery shopping service, and so much more. Needless to say that I didn't want to leave!
At checkout I was fortunate enough to meet with Darrell, a member of management. Moments before my checkout, I had some unfortunate luck/personal issues arise, and Darrell offered accomodation for me as a valued Marriott BonVoy member.
Its not just the provided accomodation that Darrell provided, it was the fact that I had not said anything to him regarding my issue. Darrell simply sensed something was wrong, and approached me with kind words and an accomodation that I am extremely grateful for.
Overall this is an extraordinary property with an extraordinarily human staff! Highly recommend !!
Hope this helps !
