I was traveling during Columbus Day weekend. Since it was past midnight after getting off the Breezewood exit of the Pennsylvania Turnpike, I was too tired to drive on. I first called the nearby hotel, but the front desk person said they were full. Then, I saw the sign for the Wiltshire Motel from a distance. I called the motel number, and the person said that they had rooms available. Initially, I was hesitant in that the motel might be run-down.||Nevertheless, when I arrived to check in, (there is a phone outside the office to call before entering the office), the person who was the owner was very polite. The price was very reasonable (about $60). He said that he had been living in Pennsylvania for about 13 years and had been blessed. The office was decorated with signs and plaques, including a Bible verse plaque.||When I entered the room, it was better than what I expected. The room was very clean. Even though some fixtures appeared to be outdated, the room was kept very well. There was a refrigerator and a coffee maker available. The bed was very comfortable to sleep on, and I fell asleep almost immediately.||The next morning, when I looked outside, I was greeted with a beautiful sunrise climbing over the mountains and illuminating the field and trees and nearby buildings.||There was no free breakfast, but there are plenty of options for breakfast nearby such as Sheetz, McDonald’s, Bob Evans, Perkins, or restaurants in the Gateway Travel Plaza. I believe there was coffee at the front desk, but I didn’t check if there was any, as I had to get back on the road.||I didn’t see many cars that night, but I was glad to have stayed overnight for a refreshing sleep and to support the owner and his locally-owned business. I highly recommend staying here, especially if you need a break after...
Read moreBeds were very comfortable, room was spacious & clean. The bathrooms are still really cute mid-20th century tile & fixtures in near pristine condition. The owner/clerk? was extremely nice, helpful & accommodating. When the 1st room we were given proved to smell horribly mildewy, he very graciously switched us to a different room. Sadly, we moved our stuff to the next room, turned on the AC (which worked GREAT!...really appreciate that) the 2nd room smelled as bad as the 1st. Having mold allergies it was a serious antihistamine night. 😕 since we were just passing thru on our way home we didn't feel it was worth the effort of spending time looking for a better place. The biggest surprise came in the morning when getting ready to use the coffee maker, only to open the back part where the water is poured & discover ancient coffee covered w/a layer of moldy scum floating on top. GROSS!!! BTW, there's a label stuck to the bathroom mirror stating that towels are to be used only on bodies, thus nothing to clean that nasty mess up with. Also, this is a very affordable motel ($65/night) so we did not expect anything fancy (they do not furnish complimentary shampoo etc nor do they even provide Kleenex...no Mimi-fridge nor microwave) but we also did NOT expect an overdose of mildew. I really was hoping to give this place 5 stars but because of the mildew followed by the super gross coffeemaker I couldn't do so & still be honest in my review. I do hope the mildew problem can be corrected & they can have a successful business for years to come. One last thing, 'free wifi' was DREADFUL! Ended up having to use our phones as...
Read moreMy car broke down in Breezewood while moving across the country and I ended up at Wiltshire on the recommendation of the mechanic who tried to fix my car, and I'm so glad I did. The owner of the motel, Immer, is incredibly kind, helpful, comforting, trustworthy and went out of his way to help me out. I was in a bit of a precarious situation, with all my belongings and my cat and a broken down car. He was extremely patient and flexible while I was figuring out what to do, he helped me figure out next steps, his son gave me a ride to the Enterprise a few towns over, and I was able to get loaded up and back on the road in a few days.
I'm so grateful I landed here and not one of the bigger hotels. It is quaint and sweet, neighbors talk to each other (there were two other people there in a very similar situation to mine!), very retro and reminded me of the motel in Schitts Creek in all the best ways - good people who will help you out, no pretense, down to earth, and in the end, glad the universe put it in your path. That was my experience at least! Not to mention it's inexpensive ($60 a night for one person), the beds are comfy, and it's right across from McDonald's and the gas station, so an easy walk for food while still being set off from the main strip.
Thank you so much to Immer, you truly were an angel in my path, and to Immer Junior for the ride - I hope you start your taxi business! All of the poor souls that break down in the area need angels...
