My wife and I have been going down to the Cape Cod National Seashore for the past 25 years. However, I discovered this area 40 years ago when I was a seasonal (summer) park Ranger. We fell in love with this beautiful untouched area of the Cape that President John F. Kennedy created back in the 1960s. This is the part of the Cape that is protected from development under the legislation that created the National Seashore, so there are no high buildings and no fast food chains or other franchises that detract from so much of the other parts of Cape Cod.||||We have stayed at all the little Mom and Pop hotels that dot this landscape from Eastham to Provincetown, and we know the area very well. We have stayed at Viking Shores in Eastham and have seen it go through several ownerships which were all well managed (https://www.vikingshores.com.) It offers terrific accommodations that we really like. Mind you, there are very few upscale hotels in this part of the Cape (with the exception of Provincetown.) Almost all hospitality venues are very small family run businesses and it’s always been that way. Viking Shores was just renovated over last winter, and the room that we were in was especially attractive. All rooms have been newly sheet-rocked and painted with beautiful coloring. The flooring is all new, and all new furniture and bed frames with new headboards make all the rooms both inviting and very comfortable.||||New desks in each room feature leather office chairs with black leather and silver. It was very modern, very nice, and unusual for this part of the Cape, as most hotels and motels in the Lower Cape have been around since the Eisenhower Administration. New TV's and updated Internet system make WIFI access easy. The other great thing about Viking Shores is that it’s right on the Cape Cod bike trail, which stretches from Yarmouth to Wellfleet, and is almost 26 miles long. You can bike or walk very easily on a scenic bike path, and from Eastham to Provincetown there is access to some of the world‘s best, award-winning beaches, such as Coast Guard beach, which is on Dr. Beach’s list of Top Ten Beaches in the U.S.||||They also have a pool, a playground for kids and it’s just a quick ride to two of our favorite restaurants...
Read moreAfter reading some of the reviews, I certainly had my doubts.. but after staying for four days and three nights, I do have to say that my wife and I enjoyed our stay at Viking Shores Motor Inn.|I understand the bad reviews as this place does definitely have a "run-down" look, and could desperately need some landscaping.. but the positives of this place are real.. and truly impressive!||1) Location - Viking Shores has a superb location. Nauset Light and Coast Guard Beach are both just down the road. My wife and I relished the opportunity to memorable beach days on these two beaches -- considered perhaps the best on the Cape... We have always stayed on Mid-Cape so these beaches were not possible/extremely difficult to get on to.. Viking Shores location made it easy.. |Eastham's Bayside beaches (Thumpertown and First Encounter) provided variety and spectacular sunsets.. just minutes away from the motel.. | |2) I thought food, gas, restaurants on the Outer Cape were going to be somewhat scarce, but convenience stores and restaurants in Eastham, and breakfast places in Wellfleet, as well as, Stop & Shop in Orleans -- if we needed something- we got it! ||3) Our room was clean and most importantly, quiet. Shower was hot and strong... Our bed had a super-firm king-size mattress that made sleeping so much better.. I took our pillows from home -- that turned out to be smart.. the pillows had a plastic wrap that would not have been too comfortable. Also, the quality TV had cable, but not NESN.. so I couldn't watch the Red Sox- Reds games.. |The room had a larger than normal refrigerator that functioned very well. Also, a microwave was provided in the room. Best of all, we got three nights of quiet sleep -- | we are not watching Netflix and/or in the pool area during our vacations. We are out and about during daylight hours.. the motel is a place to take a hot shower and get a good night sleep.. so Viking Shores Motel came through -- and we...
Read moreMy mom and I stayed here for a few nights this week, and we really enjoyed the prime location- everything we wanted to do was only a few minutes from the motel, including some great dining options and national seashore beaches. The staff was so friendly and always inquiring about our needs, offering anything we needed to have a comfortable stay. We were impressed with what they had on offer for breakfast: a choice of teas, cereals, non-dairy milk option, bagels and pastries, yogurt etc. The breakfast room was comfy and clean, and we were grateful for the water bottle filling station they had available at all (daytime) hours.
The room itself was clean, comfortable and had all the necessities. The place was very quiet, we were surprised since it was booked full but we didn't hear a single peep from within our room. The beds are fine, everything was clean (as former hotel housekeeping I have an eagle eye), a choice of pillows and plenty of towels. A couple things could be tightened up for a true five star motel stay from me, such as updated appliances and some landscaping. Also the swimming pool was closed when we were there, but perhaps it was being repaired. This really is a great place if you're looking for a budget getaway! Thank you...
