We had high hopes for our stay in Escalante. ||The pictures in booking.com showed a wonderful cottage. ||The owners -Jenifer and Shannon- have two cottages : The Barn (the pics we've seen) and the Wild West Retreat. ||We thought having booked The Barn, but ended up in the WW Retreat. ||Jenifer admitted that the pics in booking.com are confusing. ||So after the initial disappointment of getting into the Wild West cottage, we 'settled' and explored the cottage. ||For many people this may have a lot of charm, but for us it didn't . If you pay 220$ a night, you expect a place to stay with all modern comfort, a modern spotless clean well equipped bathroom, a wide bed with an excellent mattress, an excellent breakfast, etc etc.... ||If you prefer all these then do not go to the Wild West Retreat. ||If you prefer to step back in time and experience how people lived 60 years ago, then go here. ||For us, it was disappointing and definitely not the kind of place we like to go. We've been to many hotels much much lower priced with a far higher luxury standard. ||The positive sides of this place : ||- the kindness and hospitality of the owners. ||- the garden and orchard all around the cottage ||And if you go there : make SURE you get the cottage you thought you booked for ....||||-...

The Barn at the Wild West Retreat was a treat to stay in during our Utah roadtrip. The layout and decor are super original, with lots of timber and antiques. The king bed was the most comfortable of our entire trip, and our daughter loved the little cot in her own little section of the loft. The wood-burning stove was crackling away as we arrived and the place was toasty and cozy. The hot tub felt great after a day of hiking and the stars above were gorgeous. We appreciated the bread, cereal, eggs, milk, and fruit available for breakfast! Oh and having conditioner in the shower is one of my most-appreciated amenities - thank you! What could make it even better? A blanket(s) on the sofa and chair in the living room for more coziness. A few more kitchen items - like peanut butter for kids - and ziplock baggies, aluminum foil, etc., for sandwiches. And the toilet is at a funny angle so my 6'4" husband couldn't sit on it facing forward! The hosts were super friendly too - which was awesome. There were two adult bikes for use which would be fun to pedal into town. My daughter also loved that the neighbors rooster was roaming around and the owners' pig was available...

This is a wonderful spot to stay and get a feel for the area. The hosts know the area and the hiking extremely well, and are more than happy to help. The room is rusticly designed, but very comfortable. The shared bathroom is a ahort walk from the cabin, but was clean and had plenty of hot water to shower after a full day of hiking. It was the perfect place for my wife and I to stay as a base for exploring the slot canyons and other beautiful sights around Escalante and Hole in the Rock road. The local restaurants do tend to close fairly early, so be sure to plan for that.

Absolutely loved staying with the Wild West Retreat, we stayed in the “Barn”. Gorgeous, great location, comfortable, and private. Hot tub was a nice added unexpected touch. Perfect for after those long days of hiking. Enjoyed star gazing while reviving the muscles for the next day. Included a grill and covered seating area out front, as well as a beautiful balcony out back. The trees were bursting with blossoms. Already making plans for our next stay! Wonderful area to explore.

Adorable and wonderful sleeping experience. The host was very hospitable. We were able to have some of the orchards plums, apples, and apricots. The bed was comfy, the room was delightful. The bathroom was about 50 ft away which was an inconvenience for late-night potty breaks, but overall this was well worth the price.
