So often when you think of a bed and breakfast the thought of traveling hours to a quiet town or maybe a house in the Shenandoah valley comes to mind. I want to make sure I capture in this review that isn't necessarily true. The Stafford house is a hidden gem in the heart of old town Fairfax that will make you feel like you are thousands of miles away from NoVA. From the second you turn into the driveway you are greeted by two massive magnolia trees which hide this beautiful built 1930’s home. They also act as the guardians of your oasis because from the time you pass them you immediately feel this happiness and excitement come over you. Once you park Donna is there to show you to your room.. She and her husband own the Stafford house. She was a master chef at a bed and breakfast in the past and when she and her husband had the opportunity to buy the Stafford House in 1998 they did. In 1999 the Stafford House Bed and Breakfast was open for business and they have been offering people this amazing experience ever since. I am writing this review on the first floor room but they offer a second floor room as well. The first floor room has been preserved beautifully offering many of the 1930’s architecture but still providing the upgrades we have become accustomed to and desire. Yes there is WiFi and cable TV but with so many things to do within walking distance you will rarely use them. The sitting area offers two high back velvet chairs with a small table in between that opens up wider for dining purposes. Speaking of dining, you are offered complimentary breakfast which is served between 7 and 9 please accept because it acts as the cherry on top for your stay since checkout is at 11. Donna is so talented and she makes such delicious food. She will check with you about food sensitivities, preferences and diets to make sure you get something you can eat. I promise whatever it is that she makes you will be wishing you could request seconds. The bed is very comfortable, I would go with a firmness rating average since you don’t sink into it but it does have some give when you lay down. I found the sheets, pillows and mattress to be of great quality and contributed to a wonderful night's sleep. I can’t leave out the spa-like bathroom which comes with everything provided, towels, soap, shampoo, conditioner and a blow dryer. The bathroom also contributed to a great night's sleep because of the claw-foot tub that you need to experience for relaxation purposes. The shower is very large and jetted so after soaking in the tub you can rinse off with a jetted massage. One of the things I want to highlight about the area is that old town Fairfax is a mile or so away. You have sidewalk access the whole route. It makes for a beautiful walk and allows you to support lots of shops and restaurants that are locally in the area. I would recommend the capital ale house, you won't be disappointed. Lastly, don’t forget to write in the journal they provide for guests to capture some thoughts about their stay. It's pretty special to read from those who enjoyed the same wonderful place in the past and to be able to contribute for those to read...
Read moreStayed there last night. Arrived about time it was to be available (2 pm). The proprietor met us outside and guided us in, she told us a bit about the house and asked why we were there, suggested places to eat and we did go to a very close place. She told us how to get to the venue and left us be. The room was super quiet and clean which was what you would want. When we got back, she greeted us, asked how it went then let us be if we didn't need anything. Next morning, she came in with a lovely fresh breakfast and she it was fresh and better than most restaurants. Never had such hospitality. Oh the shower was large, nice freestanding tub and Fluffy towels the way I buy my own. The bed was comfy. We left, seeing a nice kept garden as we left. I would recommend this to anyone. It was better than most hotels and honestly, to see a woman working it like that is inspiring. I used to be sketchy about B&B's. Reviews like mine are your friend. Make sure you do research so you get a good one like this. No complaints. Slightly busy road so be Careful going it as we drive past it a half a block but after we turned around we got it. Oh near lots of restaurants and shopping. Nearby access to Wolftrap (13 min...
Read moreI was looking for a cheap but nice place in Fairfax, visiting from out of town. Happened upon this place and was delighted. It was everything advertised and the high ratings well deserved. I had a little bit of trouble finding the entrance at night time as the sign is surrounded by Christmas lights that make it hard to read the sign at night. Despite the relatively late hour, Donna, the proprietor met me immediately at the front door to my apartment. She was warm and gracious and made me feel immediately at home. There was no paperwork involved has all had been done online prior to my arrival. The nice brick house offers 2 rooms. My room was ready and welcoming. I was immediately informed of the few House Rules and asked what I would like and what time I wished my breakfast in my room the next morning. I went to sleep feeling comfortable and almost back at home! My small apartment had everything I needed. The bathroom was spotless and the bed was very comfortable. The next morning I was able to leave fairly early after a great homemade breakfast brought to my room, without any further paperwork needed and a hug and good bye from Donna. The price was very reasonable and I would...
