Military base Saguaro Skies FamCamp (Luke AFB—Phoenix, AZ) $40/night
Lovely & big Air Force base. Nice overnighter; wish we could stay longer, but we are pushing to get to CA for an event. This is a great place to walk, jog, or ride bikes. Nice commissary, & went to the PX, but it was closing in 3 minutes (it closes at 6 pm). Looks like a typical PX. Gas on base is at least 35 cents higher than Sam’s off base. I was impressed by the cacti and other vegetation. The guy at check-in told hubby NOT to feed the birds (except hummingbirds), but I don’t know why. Saw sooooooo many birds just chilling in a field and all I could think of was Alfred Hitchcock.
Enter through the Litchfield gate (off Lightning Ave/Rd). You’ll take a right .5 miles at a flashing light, then a wide right at the stop sign. About a quarter of a mile on the left is the famcamp. Take the second left (the first is an exit only from the famcamp). You’ll see the RVs. The gate my GPS wanted me to take was closed. Once through the gate, follow the little brown sign to the famcamp. — at Luke...
Read moreNot bad.. Clean & new.. But, presently no wifi. They are working on it. Not to sure why it wasn't already in when they built it. The rv parking spots are narrow. They only fit your rv no extra on sides. Good if you are a Class A motor home. Nicely spaced though. If you look at pics it will help you understand. Notice where door exits are, you have to step out on rocks. Also heads-up on Fri & possibly Sat nights there is a nearby bar that a band plays outside & it sounds like they are in the famcamp. Not bad music though. Office staff seemed nice. Also a little surprised at $30 a night chg especially with no wifi except only in the office. Check the gate hours too. Nice for a couple days. Wishing there was a pool. But truly not a bad place! ☆☆☆☆...

If you enjoy live music it’s great. Some staff are really great. Others not so much. Base is 40$ per night vs 35$ per night in the regional parks. However, base has a great laundry facility. Regional Parks are all volunteers and they clean the Parks. Here you’re plastered with signs everywhere. They’ve added wifi. They’ve cleaned up the massive weed problem. Because of clean up it looks much nicer than years past. Love all the camp people I’ve met here but don’t appreciate the ease dropping of the occasional inappropriate...
