Most of the staff is awesome. Including Bryce who works in the tavern, William the night staff, Michael the day staff, Richard the security working the pool during the day, and the female staff on day. However, Ashley the night manager was rude the second night of our stay I had gone to talk to her about checking in again because we had booked another night. She was annoyed I had booked "three seperate times". I apoligized we decided we wanted to stay more nights. She rolled her eyes about it and made it uncomfortable to check in for another night. She also tried to make me pay another security deposit saying I hadnt already done it even though we were on night two of our stay. She was combatitive until I finally had to show my bank account. It took one staff to ruin our experience and make us uncomfortable. After we spent more money which was about a total of $750 between food and rooms over four nights, on night three we recieved a room complaint from "2 rooms across the hall" 2 days in a row according to Ashley. (There was only one room occupied across the hall. The previous evening we were in bed by 10:30 and we were at the pool all day.) She sent security up at 11:25. When I asked the nature of the room complaints she told me that 45 minutes prior she received two room complaints that we were slamming doors. I explained that we had the security latch to keep the door open and let the door close while going to get ice. According to their policy quiet time is at 11 p.m. if it was 45 minutes prior it would have been 10:40 twenty minutes before quiet time and we had gone to get ice at about 10:20. There was a man in their "quiet zone" at 11:30 when I called to ask about the complaint and I had mentioned he was out there at that time and she never sent security to deal with him even though he stayed out there for an hour. Why put the latches on the room doors if your going to make guests uncomfortable about using them? Why enforce quiet time for some but not others? Also out of all the employees who were so polite, Ashley, is the only one who looks up from the computer to glare at you when walking by, the rest smile and ask if you need anything. We came on a sunday because of the price for the water park, which closes at 9, except we were informed the next day the actual waterpark isnt open during the week. This isnt advertised on their site it says that it is open to hotel guests monday thru thursday and open to public for weekends. This is unclear false advertising. Their pool is open for guests during the week. After they closed the waterpark sunday night the staff didnt pick up it was filthy with all kinds of debris throughout the waterpark all of Monday, UNTIL Tuesday when Richard came and cleaned it up. There is no breakfast but we were told you "can purchase some" even though there are no restaraunts open at that time. There was a younger couple having intercourse in the hottub Monday evening. My mother alerted Ashley to this problem and she assured her she would write a memo to have security in the evenings during busy time but their was no security in the pool during the evenings the next day. Also throughout a four nigh stay we had to ask for our garbages to be changed and change them ourselves. Our room had no microwave plate and only two non wrapped glasses. I had to ask if our room was clean because it was the only one in our hallway without a certified clean tag. I understand that Covid makes things difficult as far as the pool goes but use more thorough advertising. As far as the manager there is no reason much younger staff without a title are far more pleasant, look at promoting them. Don't spend your money here once they have it management no longer values you as a customer or care about making your stay comfortable. The only reason i gave a decent rating was because of the other named staff who helped make our stay pleasant. I wouldnt stay here again i'd book a different hotel and come for...
Read moreI would give this 0 stars if I could. The people that work there have no idea what they are doing. First off we got the penguin theme room. The bunk area was basically a closet. Online it said it had a king bed and a pullout couch. There was what seemed to be a full size bed. It might've been a queen but my queen at home is huge in comparison. We ate at the restaurant in the hotel the first night (l'bistro). There was about 5 tables eating not including us. It took us over an hour to get our food and I wanted extra sauce with my food so I asked. I was basically done with my food by the time they brought the sauce because the waitress forgot. Then the next day we had the breakfast. I believe it cost 4 dollars for the buffet. There wasn't that many options plus what they did have was gross. The waffles were gummy-like and the eggs were like sponges. Also they didn't offer what they said they had. Then we had one of the cabanas rented. They said when we rented it we could have it all day. Then once we got there we could only have it from 9am-2pm and then 6pm-10pm but we didn't get it back until 7pm. Then we ordered pop and pizza to be delivered to the cabana from the pizza place in there. It took forever to get it and it tasted disgusting. Plus the didn't bring us cups for the pop, we had to go get them. Then we went up to the room to get changed to go get supper. While we were getting ready someone knocked on the door asking if we were ready to switch rooms. We were not informed of that when we checked in and they were going to put us in a smaller room with cots because there wasn't enough room for all of us. So we had to argue with them and we did end up staying in the same room we had. Also heating and cooling did not work in the room. Finally, the elevators. There are only 2 elevators and they take forever. When we were taking the stuff down to the car we had to wait 20-30 minutes for the elevators. We probably would've had to wait longer if I didn't take the stairs down and get on the elevator on the first floor and go to different floors letting people on and off until it was just me so we could get the cart in. Also the elevators were super tiny so you couldn't fit much in there. It was a complete mess and I will never go and stay there again.
Edit: I just remembered a couple other things. We took dirty towels out to the housekeeper and told her we only needed towels. Got our towels and put them in the room. Then we went downstairs. When we got down there we forgot something so we went back up to the room. We had the do not disturb sign on our door plus we just told her we didn't need service but, there she was unlocking the door to go in. Was not impressed. Also the beds were so uncomfortable. It was the worst bed I've ever slept on.
Yet another edit: So you would think a week after staying here that the nightmare would be over...well you'd be wrong! The person who paid for the rooms was charged for the rooms AGAIN. How do you make a mistake like that??? This hotel is just one big scam. DO...
Read moreHard to know where to begin, so I’ll just start at the beginning and walk you through our stay. When we arrived, the attendant at the desk was sipping coffee, scrolling on her phone and didn’t look up. I had to make a sound on the counter to get her attention to check us in. Finally she noticed me and checked us in. For the record, each of the few times I spoke with front desk staff for the rest of our stay, I was treated like they would rather be doing anything else than answering standard stay-related questions. No smiles, not friendly, and they seemed annoyed. The person working the desk on Tuesday (May 16th) at noon who checked us out was the exception; she was very friendly.
We got to our room, we were more than annoyed to find that our room faced into the busy waterpark area and at no point were we told this ahead of time. Had we had the option, we would have chosen a different room, with an actual window to the outside world. The noise coming from the pool was bad enough, but honestly the worst part was the early-morning-like light always coming through the window, despite the partially-broken blackout curtain, keeping me up both nights.
Our bed was incredibly creaky, which would have been fairly standard for a 3 star hotel, except for the fact that when my husband tried to check why it was so creaky, he noticed that the bed frame was quite literally falling apart. The mattress was being held up by completely broken and splintered MDF.
But at least we had the 14000 sq foot waterpark to look forward to! The reason we booked this hotel in the first place! Wrong. The website says that the waterpark is open for everyone Wed-Sun, and hotel guests only Mon-Tues. We were told on Monday that only some things were actually open. So the whole reason we chose this hotel went down the drain. Upon further inspection of the website, it does say that only some things are open, but it is worded very poorly. I witnessed another family checking in who also did not understand this information from the website. This other family also verbalized that they had booked the hotel specifically for the waterpark. Very disappointing all around.
We decided to make the best of it and go to the pool anyways. The lazy River was not on, despite it being one of the few things that were supposed to be working for hotel guests. I had to push my husband and son around the river because it wasn’t moving. The kiddie pool was open as promised but the small slide in the kiddie pool was not. More disappointment. And finally, the arcade was also closed.
We will not be returning to this hotel. It was disappointment after disappointment and for a family that rarely gets to “travel” (even small trips away such as this one) to spend 372 Canadian dollars on what we got was disheartening to say the least.
This hotel needs either a serious overhaul in both attitude and amenities, or it needs its star level lowered so guests can adjust their...
