I will start by thanking the assistant front desk manager for being very accommodating in regard to my request while I was in Grand Forks for a week. That said; it is unfortunate that I have to write a negative review. I started the stay by getting to my room, opening the door, and being met with the worst smell that I have ever smelled coming from a hotel fridge. TV did not work. There were ketchup (I think) stains all over the gold curtains. Closet mirror had what looked like chocolate milk thrown against it. Soap holder by bathroom sink still had wet/globby soap leavings from last guest. And the part of toilet between seat and lid had what looked like waste build-up that has gone un-cleaned since the hotel opened it's doors. If the average guest can see all of this 30 seconds after being in a room, why can't the average housekeeper see it after 30 minutes of being in one? There was half of a roll of toilet paper, one Styrofoam cup, one shampoo, and one conditioner. I always book two beds, even though it is just myself; for the extra's that come with a room that sleeps four. What would four have done with the scanty amenities? I went to the desk to ask the front desk agent to come to my room to have a look at the TV. He fixed it, and then offered a different room without my even requesting one, due to the smell of fridge. (He could barely stand it.) My logic though: If the room I am already in, which took 45 minutes to get into, and then 45 more to get settled into - is lousy - what is the next room going to be like? I stayed and cleaned the fridge. It helped a little. Beyond the room itself: There are a couple of front desk agents that should not be in guest services; the smell of chlorine from the pool permeated the entire hotel; the noise in the common hallways was bad, as normal walking was very loud, and with all the kids that seemed to be constantly running down them, it actually caused the walls in the room to vibrate; and it seemed whoever got the room next to me on any given night, was either throwing things against the walls, or banging furniture around; which I attribute to not only disregard, but very thin hotel walls. So, between hallway and other's room noise, it bordered on unbearable. (And housekeeping was just as inconsiderate while cleaning surrounding rooms.) I got a mild headache every day listening to all of it. Outside of the hotel: The parking lot was very dangerous; as ice was allowed to build up due to inattention after the two snowfalls that occurred while I was there. (My stay was a week.) All in all, I will have to find other accommodations the next time; even though I am an elite member and will be forfeiting stay-points. I don't think this hotel would do very well without the Canadian business, or the Grand Forks and surrounding area 'staycationers' that book on weekend nights - so that their children can run amok with little, or no...
Read moreEverything was ok except the pool area!! Overall the stay was below average with the main reason being the pool area being overloaded with chemicals and no ventilation. I mean NO ventilation. Everyone in our group had kids so the pool was first stop. Right when u walk in your hit with the chemicals but as overwhelming as the smell was, soon to follow was your skin getting irritated. 3 out of 5 of us left within 10 minutes and within that time my eyes were toasted and on fire. They were so red I thought I was back in college. 3 adults walking down the hallway kinda slow and all with bloodshot eyes And saying “man that was strong” and talking about needing a drink ASAP I’m sure was a misleading sight too. It didn’t dawn on us until later why few people chuckled at us when we walked by. All the kids who swam were rashy and red eyed the next day still and then in the newspaper several weeks after we read that some people were taken to the hospital for chemical burns after swimming there. During our stay, We told the front desk but all they did was open the two emergency side doors to help bring in fresh air by letting in a breeze but it was the middle of winter so a steamy hot room with ice cold air pouring in made it so foggy you literally couldn’t see your own hand when u held it in front of your face. It is a disaster of a set up for a pool area which seems like someone such as a manager or owner would address immediately and fix cause it was completely unacceptable conditions. It wasn’t just for our stay either. They were known for it because almost everyone we told the story too said that they have heard about how bad the pool area. Blows my mind the owners wouldn’t make the necessary changes in the setup to eliminate the problem. If you stay here anyways, you will join that thought as soon as you get...
Read moreHave been to Grand Forks many times on business. I usually stay at another hotel. This time I chose La Quinta because my usual hotel was booked up. After traveling through what was the worst IT crisis in history, having two layovers and landing in Grand Forks at mindnight, I was STILL prepared to be patient with the hotel because they did move my reservation to the right a day to accommodate the flight cancellation I experienced. I understand that La Quinta must have experienced it too. But when I showed up to the front desk at 1245am to check in, I was dying to just exchange pleasantries with someone. Unfortunately, the overnight attendant at the front desk did not help make the check in process pleasant at all and each of my encounters with him, I’ve found him to be a grouch. He serves the breakfasts every morning during the week from my observation and I tried all week to at least say hi or see if his mood improved but no.
The day shift front desk personnel were awesome and always so great to deal with and talk to.
My stay has been for 5 days, 4 nights and I’ve not been visited by housekeepers once. I was put on the first floor and the noise at all hours got to be a little much. I’m a dog lover and am patient with puppers. But they don’t seem to enforce any sort of overnight noise rules. I’m pretty tolerant and patient about daytime noise. Evening noise too. But this was excessive and I chose to deal with it instead of their overnight attendant.
It’s a great location. But given the fact that there are A MULTITUDE of lodging choices within walking distance of La Quinta, I’m sorry to say, it will not be at the top of my list when I come back to Grand Forks every quarter. Every other place will have to have...
