This past weekend was our 4th stay at this KOA and will be our last. Our daughter is a student at Notre Dame and we found after her freshman year that it was almost impossible to get a hotel room for football weekends or any other special event weekends on campus. Hence we decided to utilize our RV for visits. We would have never come back after our first stay in 2013 if it weren't for these circumstances. Our first stay involved us being belittled for talking too loud (4 adults) around a campfire early in the evening. The next night we were greeted at the gate by uniformed security guards/police (which I did confirm with the St. Joseph County Sheriffs office this morning are not their officers) shining their flashlights in our RV counting people and demanding to see our wristbands. Really? This is a KOA in Granger IN not Fort Knox. The next couple visits we would pull in hook up our RV, go to sleep, and pull out in the morning. There is no history of us being rowdy or loud. This last trip was the icing on the cake! I paid the 2 night minimum because it was a Football weekend and gave them a heads up that we would not be arriving until around 10:30pm Saturday night. Upon check in my party of 6 - 40 year old professional women with children went to the check in counter and I was charged an additional $96.00. I asked Patricia the owner why I was being charged so much and she said she was charging me for the 4 extra people and dog for both Friday & Saturday night....even though we weren't even there Friday night. I wasn't going to argue with her as it was 10:30 at night and from our past experiences with them I knew where it would go. I have already put in a dispute with Am/Ex to not pay this charge. Patricia then proceeded to go on with the check in and these were her exact words..."Here are your wristbands and if you do not have them on in the park you will be tackled by police". I made sure to let the St. Joseph Sheriff department know what they were telling guests this morning. And as she was going over the map and telling me where I could take my dog she said "If you do not pick up after your dog you will find it as gift when you leave". If I had not been 6 hours from home with no other place to take my party we would have left on the spot. We then walked out of the park with our wristbands in hand and went to the corner restaurant for a late dinner. On our way back in the park we were stopped by Thomas who said we had to put the wristbands on our wrists and that holding them was not good enough because the "Police" would come in our RV and look to see if we had them on. By this time I had enough of this intimidation and said this was ridiculous and I was going to post a negative review online. He said he didn't care what I posted and he than put his fingers in my face, said my name, and said "You have been here 3 times and that is 3 times too many go to your RV". They looked up how many times I had stayed in the past?!?? We travel extensively throughout the country and I heavily rely on reviews. I sometimes feel guilty that I have never taken the time to do my part and leave my opinion on experiences...good or bad. However I felt the way we were treated was not acceptable, downright aggressive really, and if I could save the next ND fan or any other party from having to experience these 2 awful people it would be worth the time...
Read moreIf I could I would give no stars! This was a huge disappointment to our family and guest. It was a waste of our time. Definitely will not stay here ever again. If I could post pictures I would. First off the sites are way to close with other sites water electric and sewer are in your sites right by the firepit ring. Thomas the owner is not friendly and very unpleasant. First off when we arrived on Thursday to our site, we had not one or two trees but 8 trees total. The site had very little grass and very little gravel, but a lot of dirt. Just what you want to drag into your new camper. We were unable to extend our awning completely open due to trees blocking. Unfortunately we were not the only site like this either. There were plenty of others. Our dog wondered our site so we could unload and set up. Thomas made sure that right away he made his presence known. We had to chain our small dog. Not a problem. We just needed to unload. We asked if we would be able to change sites due to the issues of trees and our bathroom door on the other side of the small wooden fence as you come in the park. There were so many sites still open at this time. Thomas told us no due to having 40+ campers arriving. When we complained about all the trees in this small site. He stated that is the beauty of this campsite. So we decided to attempt to make the best of it all. Friday we went to the pool, it was dirty. That night we were trying to enjoy the relaxing night. Thomas again came around and stated that the music was too load to turn it down, its quiet time. There were people running around playing and laughing. So we wrapped up and went inside our camper. No big deal. We had visitors coming today/ Saturday. We talked to Patricia about the arrangements and paid for them as well. She was completely okay with this. When they arrived to the site. Thomas came over again. He insisted that the reservation was not made for them. He was informed that we already spoke with Patricia regarding this. He insisted that they all go to the office and give their names. However they didn't ask at the time of reservation our names. So why was it such a big deal. He then insisted that they move their vehicle that fit perfectly in the dirt site with very like grass. The vehicle was not in the way of traffic or out of the site what so ever. Then my nephew wanted to ride the hoverboard. Thomas made his presence again. Insisted that he put it away, its not allowed. I asked what the issue was. He stated that no electric scooters, its in the rule book. I told him that we definitely would not come back again. Which was already decided when he refused to change our site. So we packed up and left today when check out was tomorrow/Sunday. So if you are looking for somewhere for kids to have fun, don't come here. The only thing to do it ride your bike, take a trail on a bed of soft layered water leaves, and visit the dirty pool. Everything else is closed down due to Covid. If your kids do want to do something chances are they will be informed that they are to loud or they...
Read moreOur stay at Rjourney Campground for two nights was nothing short of a financial blunder. We forked out $200 for what should have been a peaceful getaway, but instead felt like a complete rip-off. The breakdown was outrageous: $156 for the two nights, a baffling $20 booking fee that seemed to be nothing more than a ridiculous cash grab, and then, on top of that, $23.40 in taxes. For a quaint little campground where campers were squeezed together like sardines, the price felt exorbitant.||||The campsite itself was cramped, with barely six feet separating us from our neighbors on either side. The fire pit was awkwardly positioned at the back of our minuscule driveway, making it uncomfortable to enjoy a cozy fire without worrying about scorching the adjacent camper's slide-out. To make matters worse, both nights we were there, our neighbors hosted raucous parties, complete with a massive fire that attracted a raucous crowd of at least 15 people. Loud laughter and boisterous drinking echoed into the night, drowning out any hopes of sleep for us. It was absolutely infuriating.||||As if that wasn't enough, the neighbors on our other side allowed their dog to roam freely, which meant that our camper door became a target for clawing paws. The dog’s unfortunate bathroom habits resulted in several unpleasant surprises on our site. It was utterly disgusting.||||For families, this campground offered little to no entertainment for children, and to add to our disappointment, the pool was shut down for repairs during our visit. The bathrooms were a horror show, with outdated facilities that had rust creeping around the sinks and an unbearable stench that lingered thick in the air. And let’s not forget the showers—they were a cramped 2x2 feet, so tiny that washing my hair meant my elbows were pressed against the walls. There wasn’t even a handicap-accessible shower, leaving many individuals with limited mobility at a disadvantage.||||Overall, we felt completely ripped off for this experience. Do yourself a favor—avoid this campground at all costs. Hidden fees, a lack of activities, outdated facilities, and an overcrowded environment made for a disappointing stay. Save your money and look elsewhere for an enjoyable...
