The one star review is due to callous management that is absolutely unwilling to work with guests due to a technical difficulty on the Best Western website.
Putting that aside for a second, this hotel is far from the best I have stayed at, but not the worst. It has an older feel to it, but it is clear that the rooms are recently renovated. I wasn't a huge fan of the hard floors, but that's just a personal opinion and some people may like that. The room was clean and I never felt unsafe. The girl at the front desk (the one with tattoos) was phenomenal. I had an issue with the website which caused the room to book for the wrong date (I had initially set it for the correct date 2 weeks prior, I guess it got changed back to the present day in the booking process), and she was super helpful in getting me a room for the night and giving me the corporate number to request a refund. Overall the only pleasant person I interacted with at this stay. The location isn't great. It's far from a lot of stuff. But in a place like Grants, that's to be expected and I'm not gonna hold it against them. The best part of this hotel? The breakfast. Very, very good breakfast.
Now let me elaborate on why I am giving this place one star. My review has mostly been positive so far, so why the one star? Well, my experience with management after the stay is probably the worst experience I have ever had with management at any commercial establishment in my entire life. He is so selfish that I am giving this place one star simply because I cannot support this place, nor can I encourage others to support it. Remember the website issue I mentioned earlier? Well, because of the issue, I had my card double-charged and was told that I could call the corporate number to ask for a refund on the original night. I called the corporate number and they told me that I could get a refund as soon as they got the okay from the hotel's manager.
So... Fast forward three days, I got an email from the manager saying that my request for a refund was not approved because the hotel was sold out on the night I had originally booked. And obviously, the loss of $110 from someone who is having financial issues (which I explained to him) would sink his entire business. I explained to him the issue I had with the website which led to the error, and he said he'd get back to me in making a determination. That was over a month ago and it is clear that he has no intent to even consider the situation. And corporate claims they can't do anything even though it was their website that caused the mess in the first place.
I am super disappointed in the management of this hotel, and I am super disappointed in the Best Western brand. I was a loyal Best Western gold guest before this, but I intend to drain the points out of my account and avoid Best Western from this point on. And hopefully I'll eventually pay off the debt that this situation caused. The only time I will set foot in this hotel from now on is to have some breakfast tacos, as they were pretty dang good.
And before anyone thinks I'm a troll who lives to give out 1 star reviews, this is only the second one I have given out of 22 reviews on Google. And the other one was a restaurant that gave me a room temperature milkshake and raw meat. Stay away from this place. And stay away from SureStay as well, he manages...
Read moreHad to pull in here after having car trouble, and wish we hadnt bothered, was the most expensive of our entire week long road trip, at $150 after military discount. Room was ugly not welcoming at all. The office chair in the room needs a safety warning, I sat down to do some work on my laptop and the thing flew back with no warning, scared the damn life out of me. We arrived in the evening so after almost breaking my back in the chair, I decided to just shower and bed, the water was luke warm but at least the bed was comfortable. Then came breakfast... the tater tots were still frozen a few slightly warm ones, but everyone was discarding them in the bin, my husband informed a gentleman that the dish full of tots he was obviously looking forward to were frozen and the poor man looked like he'd touched a corpse after squeezing one, those too were thrown in the trash and the man also left with just a coffee, add to that the doughnuts that were so stale you could easily repurpose them as door stops, at this point we gave up, drank our coffee and went to reception to hand in our doorcards, asked for a pen, she tried 10 different ones before finally finding one that works, Told her the breakfast was awful and we won't be staying...
Read moreBest Western has often been one of my go-to hotels while traveling over the years, especially when my pet was with me. This Best Western in Grants, NM is the absolutely-worst one I have ever stayed in. My safety as an older woman traveling was at severe risk - someone kept moving a heavy trash receptacle to block an entry door open so anyone could enter the hotel. (I almost called the police - it was that bad.) The room was extremely dirty with a hard floor that hadn't been swept. The housekeepers had their young children with them as they cleaned (and I never before saw a housekeeper holding their handbag as they worked). Breakfast was beyond awful, including an employee doling out whatever they served what was supposed to be hot entree. The breakfast burrito doled out (rather than let us serve ourselves like at other Best Westerns) was cold and not-edible. The same employee watched and commented on us choosing to get some yogurt, etc. I understand the need to make a profit, but this Grants, NM Best Western is unsafe for women, is frighteningly dirty and the front desk and breakfast staff treated us...
