I would NOT recommend staying at this hotel due to a general lack of cleanliness and some security issues. It was probably a nice location for families at one point, with the enclosed indoor pool, play area, and on-site dining. However, it is now very run-down and not properly maintained or cleaned. In an effort to “hunt the good stuff,” I will lead with the pros and follow with the cons:
Pros: Ample parking outside. Front desk staff was friendly and helpful at check-in, and my reservation was in the system (PM crew). AM front desk staff was also friendly & helpful – able to quickly pull up a receipt. WiFi worked fine – front desk provided the password upon check-in. Decent TV, though only a few channels were available. Walking distance to the Flatrock Bar and Grill, and very short drive to the nice Grayling downtown area. The wall-mounted AC kept the room cool throughout the night with a consistent not-too-loud noise. In my room, the beds, fridge, and microwave all appeared nice & clean. In the bathroom, the toilet, sink, and bathtub were clean. There were several small bottles of shampoo and conditioner, as well as a new/wrapped bar of soap. The room came with a functioning iron and ironing board. The door handles & locks were functional and seemed to be semi-recently installed. Plenty of electrical outlets, though in the form of power strips.
Cons: Though the lobby area was fairly clean, the remainder of the common areas in the hotel were dirty and in disrepair. Hallways and stairs were very dirty & stained. Washer and dryer, which are oddly placed somewhat in the hallway leading to the pool area, were covered in lint and had trash & abandoned clothes scattered about. None of this was picked up during the course of my 2-night stay. Fitness room was similarly dirty with the foam flooring coming apart and dirty. Random litter left strewn about. Treadmill missing a safety covering over a moving part. Random hoses and litter in the vestibules leading from the hallways to the stairs & exits. Exterior doors not locked: anyone could enter the hotel without a key. Dated, mismatched, and torn fixtures and carpet throughout. Beds: while the beds themselves were comfortable, there were only two small pillows on each bed. Not a deal-breaker, but kind of odd and not consistent with most modern hotels. The floor in the room had clearly not been swept, which was obvious on the laminate floor. I found big chunks of what appeared to be Cheetos and cheezits, along with plenty of other random dirt and debris. The bathroom had clean towels and sink/toilet/bathtub. However, the floor and other surfaces had been neglected. Lots of hair on the floor, and a good bit of dust around the edge of the sink and on top of the wall-mounted hair dryer. The vent was covered in dust/lint. Only two towels in a room designed to accommodate 4 people. Front of the hair dryer appeared to be missing a safety guard, meaning hair / fingers could end up touching the hot coils inside. While the AC kept the room cool, my pool-facing room’s AC unit was pulling all of its air from the pool area, so the air was damp/musty with a pretty strong chlorine odor. My room came with a second chair in addition to the desk chair, but the fabric was very visibly stained. It seemed like it had randomly been brought in / left from one of the conference areas.
Overall the hotel’s inadequacies seem like they could be easily remedied by better management – investing in some basic maintenance, additional cleaning staff, and just simply purchasing additional linens would rectify the numerous complaints about rooms not being ready. The on-site staff were great but the cleaning team was obviously...
Read moreWish I could give negative five stars! Hi there! I have a story you may be interested in.
Around 5pmish, July 2nd we checked into our two night stay at the Ramana Inn, in Grayling. Jenna checked us in, we ran to our room to check it out and and lay our stuff down, and check the pool area before we left for our plans. Room was outdated, we noticed a piece of 2×4 coming from the bed closet to the window. We weren't planning on spending our days there, as we had plans, figured we could make it work. Saturday morning we were getting around for the lake, when Moana the housekeeper knocked on the door. She asked if we wanted our room serviced, we replied yes, but in just a bit since we were still getting ready to head out. Moana then tells us not to be smoking in the room. I confronted Moana who said our room door smelt like smoke, mind you we were by corridor B, which people the night before we were standing inside of to smoke, witnessed this as we were coming in. We informed Moana we weren't smoking, and three other guest were standing outside their rooms overhearing this and told Moana as well, it's not our room. I went to the front desk to request a room clean but not with Moana just because of how the conversation went. The front desk noted everything down, said it would be taken care of. We leave for the day to come back to an unclean room, we basically wanted the trash changed out. We went down to the front desk to see what was going on, as we needed towels and such, and Harp the manager told us the room was serviced, which it wasn't, and said no housekeeping would be available until the next day. I made mention how the toilet doesn't flush properly. Jenna, the friendly face that checked us in, said its not too hard and she could handle the room. I told her it was no biggie if we could just get the trash bags and towels. Jenna brought us down our trash bags, no towels but they were drying. No biggie. Never did get them though. Our little one went to sit on the bed and the 2×4 moved, causing the bed to break. We go back down to the front desk, I mention the toilet not working again and the bed is now broke. Maintenance showed, told me he could try to tighten the toilet but our room was the only one with this type of toilet. He adjusted the bed, just as the other one was breaking. He informed us the owner was down in the front lobby with Harp. We went back down to the front desk, Harp offered to service our room on Sunday, July 4th, but we were leaving. She had no other rooms, all the other hotels were booked due to the holiday. Harp offers 10% off my total stay of $247.66, making it roughly $25. Claims the owner is not here. At this time the maintenance man comes down to the front desk and I inform him they said the owner was never there, with a questionable look on his face he replies"oh, okay". Jenna, the front desk, pulled up a refund sheet for the second night and Harp suddenly could approve this without contacting the owner. She signed the refund receipt, told us she was sorry and that it would be taken care of. We ended up driving close to 4 hours home due to no lodging, not getting home until close to 4am, canceling our plans for the next day and all. On our way home we notice some post on their Facebook page claiming they took additional money from their accounts, one lady said $1400. I woke up today, the 4th, with a notification that they were taking $300 from our account for damages. I have contacted the local news and reached out to...
Read moreMy husband and I went to Grayling to ride our ORV, the hotel backed up to a snowmobile trail which is the only good thing I can say about my experience. The carpet was nasty (it felt crunchy), there was no AC in the hallways, the security doors did not work (they were unlocked all the time even though there was a room key scanner you were supposed to use to unlock the door), there was a dirty slipper under our bed with a lighter in it, there were gnats all over our room, the room smelled like mildew unless the AC was on in the room (which it wasn't when we checked in), there were stains on the towels and pillow cases, they only put one towel and one washcloth in our room upon check in and they were out of clean washcloths when we asked for another one, the trim was missing in a corner of the room behind the chair that was in the room and drywall dust where the trim should be, and I could go on. Housekeeping knocked on our door when there were TWO do not disturb signs on it and when we didn't answer (because we were sleeping) they opened the door and met the security lock. Instead of taking the hit, the housekeeper got her manager who knocked on our door louder and yelled "housekeeping". When I answered the door the manager said "oh sorry were you sleeping" I told her yes and she asked "oh okay do you need housekeeping" I told her "No, that's why there are two do not disturb signs on the door" and she informed me that they tell them to knock anyways because sometimes people just leave the signs on the door, at that point I closed the door on them because obviously sometimes people leave the signs on the doors because they don't want anyone in their room! The hotel also double charged me. When I called, the girl at the front desk admitted (after a very long story that I won't get into because this review is already longer than I intended) that they did double charge me. I asked her to have her manager call me to initiate a refund (which he didn't, I had to call 4 times the same day to get him on the phone). When I finally got in touch with the manager he was very rude, told me that he "saw it right here in black and white that we owed the hotel X amount". I then told the manager all of the problems with the hotel I listed above to which he responded "why do people always have problem after they check out? if you had problem you should've mentioned it while you were here." I told him I did complain several times and nothing was done about it. He replied that "if I have problem at hotel I check out first day, why you didn't do that?" After a whole other conversation, he said he would refund us the second charge which he didn't. So to add to all of the problems listed above, the management is VERY rude and condescending, you would think they would take any complaint seriously but since I was asking for a refund for my double charge, of course he got nasty. I just filed a dispute with my credit card company and hopefully I'll get my money back. But lesson learned, I WILL NOT stay at this hotel again and I HIGHLY recommend you don't either. It's gross, the staff are rude, house cleaning opens your door with do not disturb signs up, and it's an overall...
