Stayed at this motel for the second time, will not return for a third!
When I checked in I noticed a man sitting in the corner of the lobby. When I left and returned from going out to eat dinner I noticed another returning guest hand the man from the lobby his "doggy-bag" from his meal. (We just so happened to eat at the same restaurant - although not traveling together, we chatted in the elevator going or respect floors). He confirmed the man from the lobby was without a job and really didn't have a place to stay.
The next morning when I came down for the complimentary breakfast the same man that was sitting in the lobby when I checked in was in the exact same chair in the lobby, sleeping! As I ate he woke up, angry at the flies crawling on his face and hands. He stood up after the hotel attendant replenished the hot items on the breakfast bar. He looked at the attendant then the food and back at the attendant, she nodded her head in an affirmative manner. He proceeded to approach the breakfast bar and plate himself food. On my way to my appointment I called the hotel and asked to speak with the general manager. Nobody at this motel identifies themselves when answering the telephone and only a few of the room attendants even have name tags... certainly none of the front desk personnel do. I asked her for her name, it was Charlotte. I told her that I had a concern a out the security of the motel. I then mentioned the man in the lobby. She must have either looked at the bank of security cameras next to the front desk or look out into the lobby because her then response caught me by surprise, "I'll tell him to leave." I wasn't even asked to...
Read moreThis Super8 was more than expected from a 2 star hotel. It was super clean, quiet, convenient for our visit to Carmi, Illinois. We really appreciated the laminate flooring. This is the first hotel we’ve used that didn’t have carpeting, allowing it to be cleaned frequently. Sheets were crispy clean and soft, towels were abundant and fluffy. AC was good. Plenty of hot water and shower pressure. The TV was somewhat complicated, but we managed. Breakfast was very good, but limited. Excellent toaster, good coffee, yummy sausage Patties and sausage gravy. |Biscuits on first day were a bit dried out, but that was at the end of the breakfast serving time which is from 5a-9a. So the earlier you indulge the better the breakfast. The staff ( Harry, Sue, Lucy, Polly) were super at their jobs. Very attentive, helpful, and so friendly. They aim to please their guests and their attitude shows it. That being said, this is a basic bare bones hotel that delivers clean, quiet, friendly, adequate service. You can pay more elsewhere but I seriously doubt you can beat the friendly, caring service.|If you need other food choices there is “Family Diner” in Grayville. Home cooking, reasonable prices, and again excellent service. We ate there twice. It’s where the locals meet and eat. Quite an extensive menu. Fried chicken is supposed to be outstanding. They have a breakfast buffet on the weekends. |All in all, we will visit these two places again when we return...
Read moreVery bland hotel. Rooms are clean but the beds are on a wooden platform so you'll bump your legs giving you bruises anytime you get in and out of bed. They do allow pets which is nice. But there's an overwhelming smell of cleaners in here. My pets and I have beat red eyes right now. I just went to get breakfast and they only have yogurt, waffles bran cereal and hard boiled eggs. That's very disappointing. So no breakfast for me. I did grab a tiny Dixie cup of orange juice so I can at least have something to take with my medication. The restaurant next to the hotel is closed and changing to a Mexican restaurant so I wasn't able to get dinner either. No place delivered food so bring your own or walk across the highway to get subway or truck stop pre-made food. Over priced hotel for what is offered, I hate to mention it again but seriously the beds are horrible. Worst design for a bed. The wooden lip sticks out 5-6 inches all the way around and you will hurt yourself. There's no outlets you can use to charge your phone, no coffee cups only the wax coated cups, no mini shampoo in the bathroom, the rooms aren't insulated very well so I can feel heat coming from the window, the entrance door to the room is almost 2 inches from the ground so there's not...
