We were put in a room in a separate building, this building had a door with broken glass and the door felt like one big pull you could open it without a key, we were on the second floor with no elevator, my husband has a bad back so he couldn't carry any luggage up or down and had a hard time getting up the stairs himself which we were not asked if we had anyone handicapped or not. We get to the top of the stairs and the window ledge right across from our room is covered in dead bugs, we get in our room and it was not what was pictured online, it was not the worst place ever but definitely not worth $166.00 for the night. My kids and I decided to go use the pool, we had to walk back to the first building to get to the pool. The pool was green all around the edges the plant inside the pool area was dead, there was a bandaid on the floor that was all dyed color so it would of been there for a long time plus all other kinds of garbage laying around. We couldn't figure out how to get inthe pool area so I went to get someone, as I was walking out a housekeeper was walking in, I asked if he knew how to open the pool and he couldn't understand English, so I showed him what I was trying to ask. He showed us what we were doing wrong and we finally got in the pool area. We only stayed in the pool for a very short time because the water looked very dirty and while we were in it it brought even more stuff to the surface that was laying on the floor of the pool. We went back to our room and my husband was already asleep from driving all day. My son hopped in the shower and my daughter and I were watching TV when all of a sudden our room door opened up. I had it dead bolted and latched but somehow the deadbolt was unlocked however the latch only let it open a few inches. I woke my husband and told him that someone tried to get in our room. Already knowing that the main door to get in the building was broken and not too secure we were already on edge. My husband ran out into the hallway and saw Noone. A few minutes later he saw a person come out of the room beside us and asked if he tried to get in our room. It was the same guy that was at the pool and kept saying no English. My husband walked him to the front office and they said that he must of misunderstood that the room was occupied. We decided that okay it was an accident and we were all too exhausted to pack our stuff to leave and try to find another hotel on a Wednesday of a holiday weekend, we worried there wouldn't be anything available anyways. So we stayed, I could not sleep at all worried about the door and my mind went into scenario mode. All I kept thinking is that this gentleman saw a Mom and two kids at a pool and then a little later opens their room door not knowing that there was a man in the room since my husband didn't join us at the pool. I went to speak to the manager in the morning but she was walking with the inspector. I left my phone number for her to call me once she was done and am now 24hours since then and have not received a call. The gentleman at the front desk said that they knew about what happened the night before and was comping our room. I asked for a receipt showing this and of course something went wrong with the computer and that once he gets his manager to fix it that I would receive an email verification. Once again it has been 24 hours and the only correspondence that I received is this survey. I am a member of the choice club and have stayed in your hotel chain MANY times throughout the years but have seen a change in the rooms and service decline for about 4 years. The standards have gone down immensely, but the prices have not. I still await any correspondence from the manager and I would appreciate getting some kind...
Read moreRead moreWe checked in on a Tuesday and were sytaying until Sunday. Friends, two other couples, were checking in the next day. We were sightseeing Harpers Ferry and the surrounding area. Upon arrival we were told the pool was not working. We were so excited to chose this hotel for the indoor pool for use at the beginning of our trip. No one contacted us to let us know... we would've changed "cancelled" the hotel immediately. We paid the extra for the "insurance" for cancelling the hotel. We got 3 different stories as to why and when it was broken and would be working. The pool was "fixed" and working on Friday and at this point we had pre-planned activities an could not take the time to use it. and Our room was disgusting! Dirty, fingerprints on every white surface. AFTER THE 2ND DAY MY HUSBAND NOTICED THERE WAS A PEE STAIN ON THE COMFORTER! I could not believe it and have pictures. HEATING/AIR CONDITIONER UNIT PIECE HANGING OFF. Some kind od blood stains on the lamps, and curtains. Stains and scuffs on the walls... everywhere. Lampshades ripped. One of the lamps did not have a bulb. The metal on said lamps were also rusted. Safe didn't lock or work. Shower head was digusting with buil up. Mold and rust was in the bathroom on the walls and floor. The vent was FULL of dust and mold! We had to ask for toilet paper and tissues. The "employee" did not speak a word of english... not a word. I had to go and get the empty toilet paper roll and empty tissue box to show him what I was saying. He then proceded to try and teach me how to say toilet paper in Spanish. He was very nice don't get me wrong but, one would think the number 1 requirement in the USA for a customer service position would be for one to be able to speak the language! And this was in West Virginia. And this was not a one off. Another worker who was checking the non-working pool with test strips and when asked about when the pool would be working spoke not 1 word of english... we had to use sign language... not kidding. Back to the room... there was a huge humidifier parked in the room which read p/a. I had not idea what that meant but it was plugged in, God nows how long, and the digital pad was lit. My husband decided to open to check the water and it was filled to the brim and full of MOLD! My husband dumped it in the tub, placed it back into the machine and then it started working again. We called them to remove it from our room. We were told it was there to collect the moisture in the air because we were near the non-working indoor pool and they kept it there when no one was using the room. The crap with this place was endless! The carpeted floors throught the hallways, steps and ramp were dirty unvacuumed. The "breakfast" was as expected. Horrible. This too I have pictures of filthy dirt, rusty steam tables sitting next to the tables were the actual food was. I cannot get over that this was a "Choice" hotel. NEVER AGAIN And let me add... I am not a Karen at all. It was really just that bad. By the 2nd day I called the Chice Hotels customer service and let them know of my complaints. I was told I would get an email... never got one... and that we would get a phone call back on that same day because the complaint was escalated to a higher priority, due to us wanting to leave the hotel and get a refund... NOT A SINGLE EMAIL OR PHONE CALL BACK. I will be reporting this to the BBB and placing this on Yelp, TripAdvisor,...
I chose this hotel for a two night stay with my daughter, based on glowing reviews from other guests. They had touted the beautiful big rooms, and fantastic breakfast. I found that neither of these reviews rang true. Our room ( #1221) was old, outdated, and in desperate need of maintenance. The deadlock on the door did not work, which left me to rely on the skimpy metal bar for 'security'. The room safe kept showing an error message and couldn't be used. The comforter on one of the beds had huge slash marks which looked like damage from a big dog (I have a photo if needed). I didn't see that until the morning I checked out. Btw, I left a note listing these issues with the desk attendant when I checked out. The floor behind the toilet showed water damage from a previous leak and the caulk all around the bathtub and floor looked like it had been caulked and re-caulked repeatedly. Everything in that room/bathroom looked tired and not at all what other guests described. Then on to the 'fantastic' breakfast: I've never had a worse, basic breakfast in any hotel. The scrambled eggs were gummy and cold, because the chafing dishes are not being heated. The ill-fitting lids kept falling off when trying to open them. One of the waffle irons didn't work, with a buffet employee telling me that they have had issue with that iron, and to just use the other one, where a line of people were already waiting. The coffee tasted like dishwater. Other than the eggs and some breakfast sausages there were a few prepackaged mini muffins that ran out fast, plus some slices of bread, also gone by 9:15 (with breakfast ending at 10). Nothing was replenished. No sign of that much touted breakfast, which was one of the reason I had picked this hotel. I am not at all a finicky eater, but I couldn't eat this. We left and made our way to the Starbucks in the next town where we had breakfast instead. On arrival at the hotel, we were checked in by an older, dour man who never cracked a smile. The entry hall is sad and outdated, as is the hallway on the first floor, and the exercise room, both poorly lit. The carpet throughout the hotel, and in our room, is worn and tired. The only bright spot about the hotel was the attached restaurant, The White Horse Tavern. The food was fantastic, as were the very friendly employees. We met a local customer there who recommended some dishes to us, and she was spot on. She told us the restaurant has a chef, not just a cook, and it showed in the quality of the dishes. The three stars in my review are for the White Horse Tavern, which is probably not even run by the hotel. One other good thing about the hotel is the proximity to Harpers Ferry State Park. However, I will not be staying there again. For two nights I paid $450 (tax included), which is crazily overpriced, in my opinion. This hotel needs a serious update. I will be staying in Charlestown a few minutes further down the road next time I come...
