TLDR: My stay at the Ramada Inn in Hawthorne was disappointing due to poor service, outdated and unclean facilities, and a lack of basic amenities like functioning Wi-Fi and a gym. The hotel’s focus seemed more on extra charges than on guest comfort, and ongoing maintenance issues were not communicated. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel unless you are extremely budget-conscious and prepared for significant inconveniences.
Full review: Upon arriving at the Ramada Inn in Hawthorne, my first interaction with the staff wasn’t particularly welcoming. Despite arriving early at 8 a.m. (well ahead of the 3 p.m. check-in time), I was informed that I’d need to pay an additional $35 for early check-in. While I understand policies around early check-ins, the staff’s approach felt more focused on enforcing rules rather than being accommodating or offering any kind of exception. It left me with a sense that the hotel prioritizes extra charges over customer service.
Once in the lobby, it became clear that the hotel was in need of some serious attention. The space felt disorganized and unclean, which was concerning, especially for a first impression. I overheard several other guests discussing issues they were experiencing, many related to plumbing and general wear and tear throughout the property. It seems the hotel is undergoing some kind of renovation, but it’s at a point where amenities have been removed or are out of order, leaving guests with a less-than-ideal experience.
One of the most frustrating aspects was noticing the hotel’s investment in high-tech vending machines, complete with advanced touchscreens, while basic amenities like the gym were out of commission—and have apparently been that way for months. It feels like the focus is on charging guests more rather than improving the overall experience.
When I finally got into my room, it was clear that the property’s age and lack of upkeep were consistent throughout. The room felt old, with worn carpets, a musty and smoky smell, and little fruit flies buzzing around. The humidity in the room added to the discomfort, and there were very few outlets available, which made the stay feel even more inconvenient. Overall, the room was far from clean and far from comfortable.
On my second day, my experience took another unfortunate turn. At around 11 a.m., I received a knock on my door, which I assumed would be housekeeping. However, it turned out to be a maintenance person who informed me that they needed to reseal the toilet with caulking. This struck me as incredibly odd, especially since I had not been informed that any maintenance work would be happening during my stay. Now, I was left unable to use the bathroom for an unspecified amount of time—adding further inconvenience to an already disappointing visit. The lack of communication about ongoing maintenance, combined with the poor state of the facilities, continues to contribute to the overall sense that this property is unorganized and poorly managed.
To top it all off, the Wi-Fi was abysmal. It constantly cut out, making it nearly impossible to get any work done or even stay connected to basic services. In a time where reliable internet is a basic expectation, this was another major letdown.
Overall, I would not recommend staying at the Ramada Inn in Hawthorne unless you are on a very tight budget and willing to deal with significant inconveniences. The poor service, outdated and dirty facilities, and overall lack of care for guest experience make this a place I wouldn’t consider...
Read moreThis was by far the most disgusting room & building I have ever been in. The booking sites I use conveniently have pictures of modern rooms that may have looked how the rooms did when they were built in 1973 but so far removed from how they look over 50 years later. Structure pillars & ceiling falling apart, a bullet hole in my fire extinguisher case by my room. The pool is yellow taped off like a crime scene. Horrid Stench throughout the building, cracked 70’s Jetted Tub/70’s Carpet/70’s Heater with dial controls. Broken drawers in room… Sink missing plug so have to be careful on what you do so you don’t lose your rings, while I lost my sanity. The list goes on & on with all I found wrong in my literal 4 hour stay. I got sick from the smell & left through the graffitied walls & the broken elevator a month overdue on inspection that definitely would put that elevator out of service by any competent inspector. Didn’t feel safe at all anywhere there. I went to a Jewish Mausoleum with body decay in the walls earlier in the day. That smell was more pleasant than the smell of this hotel. With it having indoor/outdoor design, it being so unkempt could have sewage backup & puddling to the rooms from the torrential rain which could create mold. All those scenarios are likely. No excuse for all the run down conditions of everything. They let this building go far too long. The jetted tub in my room was cracked, the plug would not seal to use as a jetted tub instead of shower, stained like the carpet was since it was there since the 70’s, dial controls, & the heater in my room was also 70’s dial controls. Speaking of plug, again, the sink was missing it. The room was missing lampshades (The newest amenity in the room was exposed LED bulbs), curtains were ripped out & screw holes still there from the rods. My room had a weird shade thing that didn’t provide any sense of privacy for my naked body if I actually was able to use that Jetted tub. I felt very unsafe in the parking garage that had many caked on dust covered cars & random storage everywhere that made the garage area look like a Homeless vagrant’s tent home along the 405. I do believe it could have been a homeless camp where someone could pop out from too. The broken one way spike strips on the exit of the garage were also a classy addition. This place had so many faults that I can’t even list them all. Walking the halls had me see so many things wrong a human probably shouldn’t live with seeing. I want my money back because the other high rise hotels closer to the airport were same price, better location, & definitely put money toward upkeep of the property. I went off the name of the hotel, repuation, & company provided photos of the property which never steered me wrong. Until now. How this place is not condemned by the Health Department is beyond me (I filed a report because that was severe BS I went through here) It’s a reputable chain brand too, Ramada? Wyndham? Their prices were worth the pictures they shared of “the property” but they dupe buyers when the buyers arrive to conditions I wouldn’t even house the Homeless or my worst enemy in. Again, How this is so bad is unimaginable & I hope my review steers you to the Sonesta (I stayed at, AMAZING hotel), Sheraton, Hilton, one of the Highrises by the LAX entrance & as far removed from this place I likely need to get a tetanus booster from. Probably a...
Read moreDec 4,2024 booking: Priceline gave two options for pay at property Dec 8-15,2024 stay: $465 WITHOUT breakfast or $534.94 WITH breakfast. Booked $534.94 breakfast option. Arrived 1:03pm to hotel. Welcomed with ‘NO Breakfast from December 9,2024’ notice in Reception!! Fine. I asked the front desk staff to honor the Dec 4,2024 purchased booking and refund the part or provide breakfast for us.
Was asked to contact Priceline instead and was in contact for close to two hours trying a resolution. I was put on hold by Booking.com customer care agent who talked with hotel staff and was given a ‘Minimum breakfast with coffee’ option. I accepted that and proceeded with checkin. Front desk Mr.Edgar then said this minimum breakfast is ‘NOT GUARANTEED’! I contacted Booking.com customer care again. While waiting for agent to come on phone to talk with me, I saw Manager of hotel (Indian gentleman) come out of office briefly and quickly went back inside. I asked to talk with him. Front desk female receptionist went inside office, came out, and said ‘Manager is busy’ and also added ‘Manager is not even supposed to be here’🤬!! Booking.com agent came on phone later, talked with hotel staff again,& sent a ‘Report a charge’ email for me to fill and send back. At end, female receptionist showed $477.60 registration form which I signed (purportedly pre-tax) and my card was charged $534.90!! All these hotel events are scandalous and robbery, just for US$65-70. Simply silly& could have been outrightly avoided. I didn’t receive day 1 ‘Minimum breakfast’ this morning to say! I reported to right channels for justice.
UPDATE, December 17,2024: I checked out two days ago per schedule. Sans NO provided breakfast with coffee at all, stay was mostly uneventful.
Booking.com update this AM: “Charge was correct and NO refund would be provided as confirmation e-mail mentioned same charge” but they FORGOT to investigate the main contesting point, price with breakfast vs price without breakfast which had different charges on Priceline/Booking websites! No breakfast given for entire one week stay to us DIRECTLY disputes their own website offers and qualifies me for the difference in price apart from paying extra for very poor checkin experience, non-resolution of matter,& stress, again only for around $70!!
UPDATE, December 18,2024: My bank card was charged full $534.90 yesterday after Priceline/Booking.com said ‘Charge was right and no refund’!! Fight continues. It’s not about money which is not much but it’s about ethics and principles.
Ramada by Wyndham Hawthorne/LAX restaurant area is closed for two months till February 9,2025 for upgrades (Ramada website mentions) but Priceline website wasn’t updated to this fact neither on December 4,2024 when I purchased the booking nor today!
Dec 21,2024: Refunded US$23.88. Didn't accept yet. Not sure how Priceline/Booking.com and Ramada by Wyndham hawthorne/LAX arrived at this amount! I may accept the deal and close the fight. It's pointless fighting with mindless them.
Jan 4,2025: UPDATE: Booking.com further issued an additional US$71.52 to complete $95.40 refund (20% of my $534.90 payment) for NO...
