We were watching Hotel Impossible with Anthony..it was a rerun from 4 or 5l years ago. We would never have known about the Vagabond Lodge. The Lodge has been family owned for 100 years..when Anthony came the staff, and rooms were well kept. Just a few tweeks and He added a beautiful venue grounds to help promote this gorgeous place. We Booked Immediately after the show was over for our 44th Anniversary and loved our room with a view of Columbia River on the 2nd floor #64 end room. What we love about this classy elegant Lodge and our room: Super clean❣ Wide stairs going up the outside stairs. I'm 73 And it was well worth the walk up. Believe me. I loved the covered peep hole especially. Even. Vegas does not have that privacy feature❣ This is so cool. A black designer make up Removal wash cloth. I hate to wash with white wash clothes if I forget my facial. . Towelettes. Awesome table with two chairs high legged so you see out window over balcony and into the gorge. How clever. Oh yes with stemware to use to Celebrate your happy occasion❣ Coffee, micro, fridge, hair dryer, iron. White bed covers. Thankful very Modern Such nice modern classy choices in wall color. Never in all my travels did the accommodations have a 12 inch flat shower head that was outstanding with great water pressure and hot water that never ran out for my husband and I. Toilet seat cover that went down gently by itself. I mean the small touches were too cool. Yes a real lovely green house plant on the table. Cozy. Bed lamps have the plug in right at base of the lamp! No having to pull out the bed table and crawl behind to find a plug to plug in your devices...as well as A CPap breathing machine. Plenty of outside lighting. And great to have all the lights on the trees etc. So dark in winter. Really brightens the property. Comfy balcony with comfy chairs and drink table when the rain stopped. TV was very good. Had cable. Office staff check in. Very nice lady. Easy checkin. Check out..very nice friendly young man who made us feel good and told me..to be sure to come back. We told him we would. I told him we saw Hotel Impossible and learned about this classy welcoming Lodge. He has not heard about the show..but the lady on another computer seemed to acknowledge having head about it many years ago. I said the show was a rerun from about 5 years ago. It's the only way we would have ever known about your place and if it had not been for the nice owner and really hard working staff who had pride in this place even before Anthony came...we just could not have felt the urge to spend out Anniversary here. We would have gone to the coast. So if you are reading this....come on up ...check in relax a bit then go over to the Thai House. Google GPS And enjoy Yellow Curry! Park on inside beside the house property and Mexican House. We wish we would have had time to try the White Buffalo restaurant beside the Lodge. Again perfect view of the river. We made our reservations ONLINE SEAMLESSLY. NO, I know nobody associated with this property. Nobody in HoodRiver. Why did I share...everything I liked? This is info I would like to know before I book anywhere on line. After all this good...only one thing on negative side. Not so hard to figure out. The deadbolt was hard to close for me. My hubby just lifted the door knob and lifted door up a tad and it closed just fine. Hubby said no big deal. Quite typical on deadbolts. That's it folks.....YOU'LL be...
Read moreWhen we pulled up, we thought we had somehow booked a Motel 6 type room due to the logo and dated sign shape. We legitimately checked prices on some other hotels but they had no vacancy, so we went into it hoping for the best. The curb appeal is not strong, however, the room itself is absolutely fantastic!
Diana at the front desk is a gem, super knowledgeable about the property and it's history. It's been family owned ever since it started and they've continued to add to the property over time; most recently with a new building in 2014.
They get the details right. Our room was super clean, not a single smudge on all that glass. They provided a small bottle of hand sanitizer in the room and some alcohol wipes for peace of mind. The fireplace was on when we walked in which was super great since there was still snow on the ground. The beds are incredibly comfortable, almost too comfortable; we had difficulty wanting to get up and enjoy our time in Hood River because they were so good. There are a bunch of blue jays and other birds in the bushes outside or window and they had a bird book and binoculars at the ready for us. We were also able to get a late check-out which was nice.
If I had to be nitpicky and find something not to like, I guess the toilet is a little awkwardly close to the wall, it's not an elongated bowl, one of the windows wouldn't open, and the fireplace will heat that room up to 95 before you blink an eye, but they've got a good AC unit in there that helped even things out.
In the future, this is the only place I will be staying in Hood River. The view is incredible, the room is comfortable and clean, and the employees are friendly. Hope they continue to be around for...
Read moreThe family and I took a road trip to see their family in Hood River, but we didn't book a room anywhere before hand. The night we arrived, it was raining hard. We jumped on yelp to see whats available, and we all decided on the Vagabond Lodge. That was the best decision we made. It was inexpensive, and the full view suite was HUGE, it had a microwave and fridge. It had a vintage look which made it feel warm and comfortable when we arrive. The only drawback was, since we didn't book ahead of time, we had to move to a smaller room for the final night as all the big rooms were booked for the weekend. The staff at the front desk were very nice considering how i looked when I arrived after a 16hr drive on a rainy night. The cleaning staff were also very nice and accommodating. My daughter loved the backyard and view of the river, we all loved it for its view of nature. Internet was great as well. I can't say much about the TV as we never turned it on, I mean why would you when you have a gorgeous view of the river like we did.
During our trip, we ran into a serious car problem that it became inoperable so i didn't know what to do. The owner was kind enough to let me leave the car in their premises until a truck comes by to pick it up. Big Kudos to Vagabond for allowing me to leave my car behind. They were so nice that one of the staff helped me pull my car to the front with her own car. I'll never forget that.
The Vagabond will definitely be our go to spot every time we go to Hood River, OR and this time we will book the huge full view room ahead of time. I highly...
