Located in a run down neighborhood. Not what it seems to be as seen online. Regardless my Husband and I were excited for our Pennsylvania weekend trip as we have frequented the state often. We enjoy Dubois Pa and love the Foxburg Inn. We drove up to Inn didn’t expect what we saw, but we were going to enjoy ourselves, no matter what. My Husband who is a Marine Corp Veteran had recent health issues and we got through some health scares and were ready for a getaway this was very important to us! A young man showed us our room which was right when you walk in the door. He showed us a guest fridge and the hall of history. We get in our room right away I notice hair in bathtub and sink. I used the toilet when I sat down I noticed filth behind the register thing next to sink. Im thinking how do you miss this? One quick wipe with a rag. Coming in the doorway along the baseboard, there were several cobwebs with about three daddy longlegs spiders. OK, minor things it happens. We then went and checked the bed out as a comfortable bed is important to us and it was hard as a rock. The springs were sticking out. It has to be over 20 years old. It was so uncomfortable. We called for extra bedding to pad bed. Ben the owner said he would be down and he arrived with his Im assuming Wife Debra. Right away he said no one had ever complained about beds before. I said please come feel this it is so hard. Right off the bat Deborah was extremely rude as you could just tell by her demeanor she was upset. I had also told Ben over the phone that in my 20 years of having a cleaning business I’ve never seen so much dust underneath the bed and behind a bed, which is unhealthy to breathe in by the way. Now mind you my husband has a breathing machine he uses at night, my marine Corps veteran husband who served our country who deserves to sleep in a room that doesn’t have dust caked underneath the bed. Also, both the stand with the TV on it that was a dresser and the stand next to the bed where my husband had his breathing machine we’re so dusty that you could write your name on it. Deborah was very Much so offended and she said how her housekeepers do such a good job and certainly they clean everything you can see well let me tell you something Deborah when you have 2 inches of dust underneath a bed or behind a bed or so much dust on the baseboards along the walls that when you run your finger cross it it flakes all over the place that’s unacceptable. There’s cobwebs at the top of the headboard. It was disgusting to breathe in the crappy air conditioner in the window that probably needed the filter changed that was so loud and disturbing. Definitely not worth even close to $200 a night. All you had to do was come in and make your guest happy. All we wanted was a softer bed, but you had to run your mouth and because you ran your mouth that’s what upset us. It is unacceptable behavior that is not how you run a business and I’m telling you you’ve had that business for 5 years and you won’t have it much longer if that’s how you treat your guest because you’re gonna go downhill real quick! Deborah needs a course in customer service skills and how to treat her guests. Now maybe the other rooms have the pillow top mattress like the little twin bed in our room did that we couldn’t sleep on because it was so small. Maybe we got the crappy room because we booked on Travelocity? I’m not sure but look at these pictures and you tell me what you think Very disappointed and like I said we made the best out of it, but Deborah needs to learn some people skills. I ran a business for over 20 years and guess what my customers always came first.
Are you kidding me right now? No one broke anything. I left my room like I always do. Neat and tidy trash was in the trashcan towels were with the towels. We were not As rude as you say, we were, my husband was upset and wanted to be reimbursed. There was no scamming we called Travelocity. They gave us a nice credit because of the awfulness that we had to put up with your establishment....
Read moreWe booked three nights at Kane Manor Inn for our whole family next summer - almost all the rooms in the main house - sight unseen, and I went up to scout the place this week to be sure we weren't making a mistake. I'm very pleased and can't wait to go back.
Based on prior reviews saying that "they're working on it", which I mean to read that aspects of the rooms would be rough, that's not true at all. I was there around noon on Friday, my check-in day, so most of the rooms were open for me to see. The photos on the Web site are true and correct, and I didn't see the rough edges in bathrooms and such that I expected. Everything was neat and clean.
Bathrooms were small, as one would expect. Quality and vintage of fixtures was mixed, with some looking brand new; the old ones had charm. The cleanliness stood out, there was no peeling paint, and strong water pressure.
The mattress in my room was firm and very comfortable. Linens, especially the blanket, were very nice. No detergent smell to the sheets or towels, which would have been a deal breaker. No odor spray in the rooms. My window opened and had good blinds allowing me let in some breeze and yet enjoy my privacy. There was a very comfortable rocking chair in my room. Furnishings vary; the rooms do not have fragile antiques that I noticed, but what I saw seemed to fit in well and nothing looked or felt cheap.
The common rooms around the house and outside were very elegant. I enjoyed sitting on the patio looking out over the back yard. The large covered portico off the parlor at the north end of the building is undergoing major construction, so at the moment there is no good covered area outside to enjoy the air during rain. (To be fair, a couple of chairs and an ash catcher were set up next to the construction, but it was suitable only for grabbing a smoke in the rain, not for hanging out.) The yard is huge and has a fire pit and lots of space for summer lawn games.
Breakfast is served by very attentive wait staff and offers a fixed set of items: something with egg everyday, a breakfast meat which I skipped, and something with fruit. Omelettes on day 1, and scrambled eggs with home fries on day 2 were served while I was there. My special requests for the eggs were honored perfectly each day. French Toast had been planned for day 2 but swapped out for the eggs and home fries, which pleased me. A Keurig coffeemaker is available with pods 24/7, as is tea and cocoa. There is a guest frig and a tiny shared microwave in the butler's pantry, but otherwise no kitchen access. Most Americans will be very pleased with the breakfasts.
For lunch and dinner, a variety of restaurants are a pleasant 6-block walk away in Kane if you are not in some other neck of the woods exploring. One place in Kane (Table 105) is modern and served me some great fish and a super fresh salad, along with delicious local beer. I meant to try the Chinese place down the street but never got there, and I did not try any of the pizza places. The other restaurants in Kane did not interest me but probably offered very economical meals.
Hiking and outdoor exploring activities abound - those, I'm sure, you will research on your own. There are plentiful handouts and maps provided. I was not disappointed.
Kane Manor Inn is an outstanding value for a low price in a compelling natural area. Highly...
Read moreOn a 4K mile road trip from New Orleans to the Canadian border and back via Maine and Vermont I needed a place to stay between Albany, NY and Louisville, KY with a journey through Ohio Amish country the night of October 16th. A search on the web uncovered a town named Kane, PA I had never heard of but it was about the halfway point for what I had in mind. Looking for lodging I came across The Kane Manor Inn, looked it over, and decided to give it a try. Whenever I can I stay with the "locals" and not the chains.
What a great decision!
Let us start at the beginning. We drove in from NY through Western PA seeing the most wonderful Fall Foliage. When we drove up to our home for the night we were immediately in the mental mode of pulling up to a country manor house from a time gone by. I won't go into the history of the place, that you can find, but the Hostess and Host will give you a great tour and rundown. It's everything you would expect of a grand old lady, a true country manor. Beautiful staircase, wonderful sitting areas, and very walkable grounds. Unfortunately I was only there for one night but would love to have been able to be there for a few days and enjoy the solitude of it all. Would be a great place for spending time in the Allegheny or even driving the Elk Scenic Byway.
We stayed in the Yellow Room. Comfortable bed, full of character. Slept like a baby after a warm bottle. During the evening as other guests arrived all were friendly and personable. It's all I could ask for...and more. In the world today people often look for what I can only call sterile accomodations with amenities but that's it. I look for a place that feels like home or at least what I would love home to be. The Kane checked off all the boxes.Cannot say enough great things about the place and would absolutely recommend it to anyone. The pictures will hopefully give you a feel for the place. With any luck you can see it in person some day.
