My husband and I had never had a vacation together over 24 years..and with a serious surgery looming the next day, I wanted to find something neat..fun..luxury like..to do. I read the reviews on several sites about this hotel, and I was nervous about booking, honestly. But, I forged ahead. My husband always did the reservations, hotel bookings, paying for the room, all that stuff. This time I did it! It was an easy, straight forward process. The hotel was great about keeping me informed, reaching out to me for other items I would like to add on, everything. I didn't have any stress with booking the room or checking in. ||We were impressed upon coming to the grounds of Chateau Avalon! My gosh..the first thing we saw was this beautiful, windowed building set up for outdoor weddings. It is beautiful! The fountain is huge! There is so much detail in the figures that spray the water! We looked up at the front of the Chateau and it is just lovely! The architecture, the greenery..everything is just pretty and clean! Don't worry if you are handicapped or need assistance with stairs, there is a side door with a close elevator - that is what I used for my husband and luggage. I hate elevators..they scare me! This was a clean, smooth riding elevator. ||The hotel was spotlessly clean! There are several pictures mounted around other rooms and there was not a speck of dust anywhere. During the check-in, I asked if there was a luggage cart available. The young lady at the front desk stated she would have one at the elevator entrance after checking in - and by gosh, she did! The front desk was absolutely amazing and helpful! The fountain hadn't been running when we pulled up and I asked if it would be. Again, the amazing front desk lady told me to give her a few. True to her word, the fountain filled up and was soon showing the gorgeous heights it could reach! Be sure to go see the fountain at night..the lights on it are so pretty!! ||We stayed in room 213..the Colorado Frontier. Pictures don't do justice to being in the room! When you open the door, you see a full wall mural of a Colorado skyline complete with mountains, a lake, and forestry. Against the mural, is a table for two crafted of smooth logs. ||Stepping into the room, a beautiful oversized jacuzzi is to your left. The jacuzzi corner is stocked with fluffy towels and salon type shampoo and conditioner. There is a rock surround on the bottom outside of the jacuzzi that goes with the Colorado motif. That huge jacuzzi will double as a shower with the best water pressure ever! The shower curtains are tied up prettily in all four corners. My husband is an organ recipient and has a compromised immune system. I am very funny about cleanliness and germs. I hopped into the jacuzzi and was on all four..looking at the water output jets. There was no mold, no dust, no dirt, no hair..it was CLEAN! ||There is a boardwalk that spans the width of the room! From the jacuzzi, you look to your left and there are some cute gold mining decor pieces mounted on the wall and a large sized luggage holder. There is also plenty of open space for storing luggage and such. ||Looking to your right, at the other end of the boardwalk, is a door. Open that door and you have a fairly large space that contains the toilet and sink. The bathroom was immaculately clean. There were more fine toiletries, plastic cups, make up remover pads, a mounted hair dryer, tissues. The counter space was really good..it held all my make up stuff, hair stuff, toothbrushes, ect.. I am very happy with the space!||Now, in the middle of the boardwalk, is a door with a carved in window. Open that door and it is breathtaking! Here is the bedroom! The first thing you see is the queen-sized bed made with logs! We are larger people (husband is 6'8"..!) and found the bed very, very comfortable! I want the mattress! It was soft, moldable, so comfy! ||Room 213 had an entire back wall of wrap around windows! SO pretty!! The left and back windows looked over trees and greenery. The windows to the right, looked over the back patio portion with gorgeous Edison lights/colored lights at night, umbrella topped tables and chairs..just a lovely area! We laid in bed and listened to music from the bar..looking at the lights..and loved it. It was all quiet before 10 PM.||There is a cute little electric stove in the room! You can also sign rocks from a basket next to it! The robes are nice..very snuggly! The AC was cold..the refrigerator was cold..and there is a large standup fan that you can move wherever you want and use as you want! ||There is a quirk..there is not a microwave in the room! There is one in the lobby to use, but not in the room. There are several food options available..and the option for a good sized, decent-priced breakfast in bed. ||We are not fancy people. We don't have a lot of money..this was a splurge..and it was well worth it! We are saving to make another trip up to the Chateau!|Now, the kicker. When I made reservations, I added that I was looking for neat ideas..as this was a night before surgery and the first time we would be alone for a reason other than medical in 24 years. The hotel sent me a list of add ons..which while beautiful, were not in the budget. When we opened the door to the room..I about threw up, knowing we were in the wrong room! Here were rose petals on the bed and a bath bomb! As I turned to tell my husband not to sit down and don’t touch nothing..this wasn’t our room..my husband was crying as he handed me a letter. The letter was a very touching letter from Chateua Avalon and explained that they had comped the upgrades! They also congratulated my husband on his 4th anniversary of his organ transplant (God bless our donor) and wished him well on his surgery at KU the next day. We cried..a lot. We cried again when we checked out. The front desk, the management, the hotel..everything was so above and beyond wonderful! |We stayed...

Where do I even begin? My wife and I have been eying this hotel for a romantic get away for at least 10 years. We booked this hotel for a 2 night stay. Day one went without incident until about 1AM. My wife and I were in the middle of a romantic encounter and we started hearing a very loud beep every 30 seconds. The battery from the smoke detector needed to be replaced. I went to the front desk for assistance, and there was no one to be found. After about 15 minutes, a staff member returned to the front desk. I explained the issue and she seemed confused about what steps needed to be taken. I told her that the battery needed to be replaced and she went to go find a replacement. 10 to 15 minutes later she returned to inform me that she couldn't find a replacement. She told us that we could tough it out or we could switch rooms. We opted to switch rooms because I know there was no way to sleep or connect romantically with my wife while the beeping persisted. After about an hour, we had to pack everything and move to the other side of the building. I understand that a battery replacement isn't their fault but the staff seemed totally unable to troubleshoot this situation. We were upgraded to the fun Camelot room, which was pretty whimsical. We were incident free until the following afternoon, when we decided, for better or worse to use the jacuzzi bath. Both of us were just getting settled when we heard a noise from the front door area and saw light from the hallway. We didn't know how much the person might have seen, but needless to say, we were mortified. A few minutes later, we heard a very loud knock at the door. My wife opened to the door to find 3 people, including security. We were treated like squatters. They interrogated my wife and informed her that no one was supposed in the room. My wife explained what had taken place and she was informed that there was no record of us being in that rooms and our that our stay was only supposed to be for one night anyway. We showed our reservation email and they still seemed skeptical. After some more discussion with the front desk, we seemed to have an understanding that we were in fact supposed to be there and that someone dropped the ball in communication and that no one would bother us for the rest of our stay. Shortly after we returned to our room, an envelope was slid under the door that contained an apologies and an offer to comp our stay. We were also given a $50 gift certificate to use during our stay. We later went to the bar later in the evening to use our $50. When we got to the bottom floor, 2 staff members popped out of a room and questioned us as to where we were going. We informed them and then they said, "oh you are from room 221". The bartender informed us that he was brought in off the street 2 day prior. He was kind but kind of followed us around the bar like he was keeping an eye on us. After a few drinks, we decided to retreat to our room. When the elevator opened, the same 2 staff members from before were there again and said "hey room 221". They rode the elevator up with us and basically walked us to to our room. It felt a lot like we were being watched/ followed. Very bizarre. We returned to the room, my wife placed the room chairs in front of the front door because she didn't feel comfortable in the room after all of the walk-ins and weird staff behavior. At that point, she exclaimed, "oh my God, there is no way". When I asked what was wrong, she showed me the clear, thumb tack/ push pin that was at the bottom of her drink glass. You can see the attached photos. We would have left, but we had already had a few cocktails and were not comfortable driving. After a night that we basically slept in shifts, we finally were able to go home. I spoke to the manager again before we left an he continued to express his embarrassment over our stay. He offered us a free night in the future and asked that we give him a few months to get things turned around. The stay was horrific. I hope to goodness, we were not seen while we...

This whole experience was a flop, I would offer zero stars if I could.

Date: November 9th Price: $1,172.14 Room: 308 New York Penthouse

My husband and I were looking for a fun staycation location this past weekend. However, we were having a hard time finding a place due to the KU vs Iowa Game and Chiefs vs Broncos Game. My husband ended up branching a little further out than we normally would like and settled on Chateau Avalon Hotel & Spa.

We arrived to the hotel around 7 PM and there was a beautiful wedding going on in the event space outside. This caused the on site parking lot to be extremely full and we snagged the last available spot.

The stairs, sidewalks and curbs leading up to the entrance are broken and crumbling. Huge tripping/safety hazard as the lighting is dim

Once we got to check-in, we handed over credit card and Id, and were given our cards to head to our room. Because we booked online, the room was already paid for, the credit card was for the $25 incidentals hold.

Walking into our room left me speechless, not in a good way. It was like time traveling back to 1990, I really did think that the webpage just hadn’t been updated this century. But in reality that is just what it actually looks like.

We just did a quick look through of the room, my legit main concern was it screamed “check for bedbugs”. So after climbing the stairs to the bed, I started pulling off covers to check and there was a lovely stain in the middle of the sheets. No bed bugs thankfully.

About 10-15 mins had passed since checking in. As we were headed out to go talk to the front desk about the stain, they called to let us know our credit card for the $25 incidental fee was not going through, weird that you gave us a key then. So we headed up front to let them know about the stain and give them a new card. We asked for new sheets to be ready when we came back from the casino/dinner. They offered $25 breakfast comp for the problem with the sheets and we let them know we would be checking out before breakfast.

Location to other local experiences is a 10/10. And it’s a good thing, because I was not spending time in that room. We headed to the Casino which was right across the street, where we used the same credit card for dinner with no issues.

When we came back we stopped by the front desk to pick up the new clean sheets. But had to wait as the front desk lady was dealing with another disgruntled customer that didn’t want to stay in their room either, but couldn’t be transferred to a new room because everything was booked. ($25 breakfast comp was offered to them too)

The new sheets were clean and hot, however I could not get over how disgusting the rest of the room was. And therefore, could not get comfortable. We went down to the front desk and let them know we were unhappy and the room was gross. They offered to clean it, but the amount of time it would have taken for it to actually be cleaned was not worth it. We checked out around 10:30-10:40 pm. Total time being checked on 3-3.5 hours. Total time in room maybe 30 mins.

Tuesday, 11.12. Reached out to credit card company to dispute charge as we did not stay the night. CC company said they had to reach out to the hotel. They called Chateau Avalon and the manager said he remembered us and that we did in fact stay the night. So since the manager blatantly lied, my husband called up there to talk to him directly. The manager said he needed to reach out to the team and discuss what he could do. Chateau Avalon later called back and offered us a free stay in an upgraded room. Stating that since his team offered to clean the room, it was our choice to leave. Unless they planned on deep cleaning the whole room, along with the carpet at 10:30 at night that was never going happen. (Last photo is proof of us getting home)

I do NOT recommend this place at all.

Chateau Avalon could be really amazing, with its location and beautiful exterior. But lack of effort to maintain and update is appalling, and the manager lying was just the cherry...
