I found this place on a whim and we decided to give it a try for our anniversary trip for something new. It did not disappoint. It was everything we wanted for our trip and more. Stephanie and Kathleen were amazing at answering all the questions I had about the area and giving us suggestions. We took advantage of almost everything it had to offer. We used the weight room and walked the trail each day. Enjoyed some contrast therapy in the sauna and cold plunge. Practiced putting each day on the putting green. Sat and enjoyed the view on our rooftop patio. Took advantage of the grills in the community area one evening and had a fire. We made our own breakfast each morning in the fully stocked kitchen. We took out the free kayaks one morning. Although this is not really a complaint of the place, but the water we had access to did make me a little nervous as it didn't look exactly safe to fall into so thankfully we did not :). But this really isn't fault of Spillway. We also took advantage of the location and walked almost everywhere we went enjoying Shorts brewery, Mammoth Distillery, Bee Well Mead & Cider and all the cute shops in town. We also ventured out to eat at Dockside and took a sunset tour, tasted wine at Torch Lake Cellars and one day found a small public access point on Torch Lake to have a picnic. All were only a short 10 minute drive. On our way out we had breakfast at the cutest coffee shop on M-88. We will definitely be back in the future!!

Spillway is truly the best of the best. Starting off with saying that the lodge itself is just as welcoming, updated, clean and fun as the pictures show and they don’t really do it justice. Our stay was incredible to say the least and we were so glad we found Spillway. The entire room is fully stocked with necessities from the comfortable beds full of great pillows, to the stocked kitchen utensils and the bathroom with every imaginable necessity provided for your stay. They really thought of all the small things that make your trip so great. Overall so quiet, peaceful and relaxing. The hot tub, sauna and cold plunge were excellent and all very clean. Such a fun experience doing contrast therapy while on vacation. Also wanting to give a huge shoutout to Kathleen as she assisted in providing great local recommendations as well as going above and beyond to help with a surprise flower delivery to our suite and making our engagement so incredible. Our experience at Spillway was magnificent and we will be back. Thanks again! Perfect location for trips to Northern Michigan as it’s located in Bellaire conveniently located 45 minutes from busy Traverse City, 1.5hr from Sleeping Bear, 1.5hr from Mackinac City/Island and 1.5hr from Leland/Fishtown. (Best for parties 21+) (Local food options were all great)

Spillway far exceeded our expectations! Our family stayed in the Bushwood two-bedroom unit and absolutely loved it. Check-in was seamless—just a heads-up that the entry code doesn’t activate until after 4 PM. The location is ideal: just two blocks from town and a short walk to the river and nearby trail. We appreciated thoughtful touches like the empty growlers left for guests to fill, and the wide range of amenities was fantastic. The kids had a blast with the corn hole and putting green. We also made good use of the available bikes, camping chairs, and even umbrellas for those rainy moments. The fire pits were well-stocked with plenty of wood for cozy evenings. One night, as we sat outside, a whole family of deer wandered through—an unforgettable moment for all of us. Thank you for a lovely and memorable stay!

There are LOTS of things to really like about the Spillway Lodges:

The lodges were an easy place to luxuriously relax. The sound of the rushing water from the nearby spillway was very relaxing with lots of places to enjoy the sights and sounds of the lakes, which had swans in them.

Convenience – the cottages were ideally located with close-by grocery store, restaurants, a museum and shops. While we were there, we enjoyed the city's night of music on the street.

The suite was very well appointed with a modern completely furnished kitchen. It even included wine glasses, dishes, utensils, everything one might need for an extended stay.

Comfort, the beds were very comfortable, and HVAC unit kept the room at a comfortable temperature. There were curtains to allow one to sleep in if one was so inclined.

The bathroom was nicely done with a walkin shower, rain shower head and a surround light vanity mirror.

The Lodge management and staff were all cordial and helpful. Management communication was excellent prior, during, and after our stay there.

The gated lodges gave us a sense of security.

There were other amenities that were over and above: Such as a putting green, cornhole games, fire pit seating areas, a hot sauna with a cold dip, hot tub, kayaks, and bicycles.

I would highly recommend Spillway Lodges as a place to relax and enjoy...
