Dangerous, gross, annoying and in disrepair, but nice staff
We stayed for a week through a time share and found the 2 bedroom suites to be in disrepair. It wasn't just that the units are dated and the carpet needs a good steam clean, it's how neglected the properties are.
Specific problems ranged from dangerous to annoying: The most egregious problem was that a wooden step on the outside of the unit leading to the front door was chipped away and therefore made the step shorter than all the other steps. My 15 year old nephew, my husband and my 80 year old father in law all tripped on it. Dangerous!!! Hot water got dangerously hot in our unit - my kid almost burned herself. (not so in other units). Metal panels holding up wooden banister have sharp 90-degree angle edges close to where your hand would hold the banister. My father, who holds banisters so he doesn't fall, cut his finger pretty badly on this metal part. Sauna was a treat but the bench was broken- huge splinters and about to fall. They fixed it when we called and were really nice. Then it didn't really get hot enough to enjoy even after heating it for an hour. Broken chair. Small Corelle plates stacked on top of large ones higher than eye level meant we couldn't see that. Took out a large plate and all the small plates fell to the floor. Have you ever seen Corelle break? Easily 1,000 glass shards. Thankfully no one got cut. And they were fine about replacing the plates. Deadbolt on front door didn't latch Sticky floor- it was old pee- in upstairs bathroom upon arrival- gross! Dirty bathtub upon arrival - pubes? Ugh! I cleaned it myself... not what I want to be doing on my vacation. Heater in one bedroom shut off for no apparent reason in the middle of the night three nights in a row- brrrrr. Is it connected to a light switch? We couldn't tell... Kitchen sink was verrrry slow to drain. Not once in the entire week did any staff come to clean our rooms. We've dated at other time shared where this is not the case. If we wanted fresh towels we were supposed to wait 4 days and then exchange them ourselves at the main office- a 5 minute walk away. Had to drive to a different complex a 10 minute walk away to do laundry.
Upside: nice handyman, friendly office staff, gas fireplace, lots of space, well stocked, bedbug covers on mattress and box spring and we didn't see any bedbugs. Contrary to other reviews we didn't see bugs or smell any bad smells.
In summary this place is dangerous, falling apart, dirty and is lacking in the kind of management and resources that would...
Read moreWe stayed here for 7 nights as part of my parent’s timeshare. There has been a recent change of ownership for the Split Rock resort and Westwood village chose to not be associated with the resort.
Any activities at Split Rock will have to be purchased separately (and at full price) including swimming at the outdoor pool, the indoor pool, bowling alley, minigolf… this was not previously the case.
The staff at checkin was rude, unkind and unhelpful. I’d like to think we caught him on a bad day. They had to change our villa but he didn’t say that - instead he told us we couldn’t stay in our villa. He didn’t follow up by saying we were moved to a different one. This left us confused and frustrated and only by asking many (roundabout) questions did we finally get what was going on - and he was red faced and yelling by the end. The “welcome center” is only outdoors and there’s no bathroom available which is not helpful when you’re just arriving from a long car ride with kids. I think they are using COVID as an excuse to not care for the guests.
The villas are straight out of the early 90s which is not a problem as long as they are clean and the amenities work. Our heater didn’t work and we had to all leave the villa for the repair person (COVID or just not wanting to interact?) so we all stood outside at 10 am when they said he would arrive. He was 30 minutes late and, when he finished, he didn’t say anything to us even though we were obviously waiting. He just walked around to the back of the building so we figured he was checking something in the back… As a result, we continued waiting for him to finish for another 30 minutes when, in fact, he was long gone. And the heater was not repaired. After many more phone calls and waiting, they brought us 2 tiny space heaters and blankets. There were 6 people in our villa.
The steps going up to the door are rotten and falling apart to the point of being dangerous.
The beds are firm, firm, firm and blankets threadbare. Better to sleep on the couch.
So many repairs are needed on all the villas - there are better options close by. It seems they built the villas in the 90s and haven’t done much since then. Without the benefits offered at the resort included, it’s not worth it...
Read moreFirst time staying here at Westwood in Pennsylvania from Canada with my family and I just wished we had more time to explore this location a bit more but for the time we were here we did have a good time, but there were some things that do need more looking at, like the villas, I think they should get rid of the carpeting because that give help to the musty smell you get when you first walk in but I think even without the carpets it will probably still smell but it would help if you left some kind of air fresheners inside. We loved watching the Deos (🦌) outside just walking around like it was there home as well and listening to the birds chirping in the early morning. The water park here needs to have some stricter rules with these so called life guards at each station because I have been seeing them eating while working and ppl are just going behind the counter, now I'm not sure if they get to take their breaks but if not then they should be eating off the deck if they are hungry, and also it should not take 30 mins to make 2 simple pizzas honestly. There are many other activities to do here but we did not get a chance to look at them all. If you are someone with a family that likes the outdoors and driving then this is something you might be interested in doing with the family but be warned that the villas are not in the greatest shape but it is ok to stay in for a couple of days as long as there is no mold buildup and clean, running water you are good to go. Also do not drink the water from the tap at your Villa because it's chlorinated or at least it tastes like it was. But I would suggest checking it out for yourself before...
