Hampton Inn East in Knoxville is a good place to stay. The stafff is the friendliest and most helpful of any hotel I have stayed in over the past 3 or 4 years. That makes the hotel the best. Clean and friendly. Bottom line. Stay there. For the good and the bad, keep reading.
We have stayed 4 times in the past 18 months and every time the staff has been topnotch.
The breakfast bar is good. Dry eggs as expected but they have great condiments like salsa, cheese, jalapeno's and other stuff to put on them to make them better. The waffle bar is also great. Juice, coffe, fruit. All the normal stuff but with a freindly staff worker to help with anything you ask.
The pool is to die for.
Now the bad stuff.
The light on the desk is so short that you have to move it over to the side in order to sit your laptop on the desk.
The new tv system that was installed between our visit a month ago and Christmas STINKS. It will not stay connected to the internet. You can not change the in put source so you can plug in Roku. The channel selection is horrible. They offer Netflix, but you have to log into your personal account! The new system was put in, I am sure, so they can "personalize" your stay by putting your name on the screen and letting you login to Hilton Rewards. All I can say is that they wasted a lot of time and money. I would rather have the old tv with a real remote rather than my name on the tv screen when I come into the room.
The other "upgrade" they put in last year are the pump soap dispensers in the shower and on the vanity. They are horrible. The shower soap comes out in a little glob and you have to put 4 or 5 globs on your cloth then you can't get it rinsed off. You have to rinse forever. It just feels slimy. Someone convinced them this is cheaper and more chic than a bar of soap. Next time, I will bring my own.
On the same rant, I used the hand lotion on the vanity and it is so bad.... You know how you put sunscreen on and it turns you white and you can't get it rubbed in? Same with the lotion. Horrible. don't touch the stuff. Again, brind your own.
The bathroom floor was mopped with something that was not rinsed becaue my shoes were squeeking and sticking to the floor. This is normally due to too much cleaner in the water and not rinsing it off. Not that it was not clean, it was just a bad experience.
The bed looks good and sleeps good but the top sheet baerly covers the bed. It looks like it is for a twin size bed. It barely hangs over the edge by 3 inches.
Concerning lighting again. The lighting over the dresser/fridge/TV area. The only light on that side of the room is the tiny little lamp on the desk. The area whole side of the room is in shadow and dim. You can't see anyting on the dresser or read the button on the microwave.
The chair in the corner is broken down. You sink way down when you sit. There is no foot stool so it is very uncomfortable and as there is no other place to sit so you have no choice. Hubby propped his feet on our cooler. So your sitting options are a broken down chair, the desk or the bed.
I know this sounds harsh but it is the truth. It is clean, the staff is great, the location is good, the bed sleeps well and it will continue to be our Knoxville / Strawberry Plains...
Read moreWe were very disappointed in this Hampton Inn. We are fans of the chain overall, but this one was dirty and the breakfast offerings- were low quality, including hard boiled eggs that had no yolks, and soggy bagel bite type sandwiches. They did have the waffle station, but we opted to eat out since the offerings just seemed to be sloppily presented, and we were nervous about food safety given the foods appearance. The room was the biggest disappointment. The other Hampton Inns we’ve been staying at on our trip still had wonderful cleaning protocols with signage addressing additional COVID measures. There were green grapes on the floor when we walked in, cheese on the bathroom floor, grass on the carpeted area, and hair pins on the floor. The toilet was dirty when we lifted the seat, and there was hair in the sink. The room had baseboard missing, and dried food stuck on the desk and brochure “wallet”. The duvet was thrown on top of the comforter instead of being inside the duvet? We knew the room had not been cleaned properly by even the most minimal of standards, so we used our own cleaning products and spent about 45 minutes cleaning the room just to feel safe. The lounge seat was heavily soiled and the shower had black splotches (mold maybe?) on the ceiling in the enclosure. The front desk staff was kind enough to give us some Lysol spray to use on the soft surfaces in the room- they said they were putting a credit on the room, but in the morning the front desk person said there were no notes about room issues, and did not see any credit applied to the room. When we asked to speak to the hotel manager, we were told she wasn’t “here today”. If the hotel manager is not available for their staff to express concerns/issues for a guest by voice mail or email, that may be the root of...
Read moreMy husband & I stayed the June 8 - 9 2023. 1st night in our room the AC wasn't working properly. We talked to an employee named Amanda. She is certainly an asset to the hotel, tried her hardest to help get the AC to work properly. Unfortunately it still wouldn't work. We had 2 queen size beds in our room. On 1 bed the fitted sheet kept coming off all night long. We had been gone the entire day, got back to the hotel around 8:30. Again, the AC wasn't working properly. Amanda came up again to try to fix it, but she said she really needed help from maintenance, but couldn't get in touch with anyone. We asked if she could just move us to another room, she said if I could I would, but they were completely sold out. I asked her also, if we could have a new fitted sheet & told her what was happening. She got another sheet which worked great. On Saturday morning about 8:30am, my husband went downstairs to get breakfast. There was no bread, english muffins, a couple of bagels, which he got one for me. It was so old I couldn't eat it. He said the majority of items were gone & he asked the lady who was working in the breakfast area if they had any of the normal items. She said no, we don't have anything else. REALLY? At 8:30am almost all of the breakfast items were gone??? Hilton - you need to step it up, get sheets that fit the bed, make sure the maintenance is updated to keep your guest comfortable & make sure you have breakfast food items for your guest AND make sure they are fresh. REALLY disappointed with this...
