Birch Knoll is conveniently located on the main road in Laconia. I was pleasantly surprised when we walked into our room. The entire place inside and out looks like it has been recently renovated. The room was absolutely spotless. Everything in there was fairly new or at least refurbished. The paint the TV. The AC system. The carpeting the bathroom fixtures. All looked fairly now. The sink looked like it had some mirrors on it, but it was in perfect running shape. the beds were new and very comfortable. The Wi-Fi in the establishment worked beautifully. The owners were very friendly and very helpful at checkout. They also had a very nice rack room if you wanted to use that, and very stunning view of the lake, from the balconies, and a beautiful pool that was very clean and well-kept, although it looks like possibly the filtration system might’ve been down one of the days we were there. Across the street they have access to the lake on a couple of docks, so the access is fairly narrow, but if you want to go, Wade your feet in the lake, you can do so. They don’t have complementary breakfast, probably because their lobby area is very small. This motel was built in another era. But they did have free coffee in the morning. The two things anyone who books here might want to be aware of, the whole motel is on a hill, and there’s some considerable climbing to get from one space to the next. Also, if you have trouble with stairs, that could be an issue. The one thing they did not update when they renovated was the door knobs on the rooms, it’s still very old world with locks and keys. That didn’t bother me in the least, but it might be a concern for some. For what we needed this motel for, I give it five stars. It’s close to all the attractions, so getting in and out of the parking lot, I need to exercise caution because of the street, which is of no-fault to the establishment. I recommend this place...
Read moreWe still have not checked out and am already writing my 5 star review. My wife and I had a great weekend planned to Las Vegas to see Ed Sheeran and cross a destination off our bucket list. Due to late summer storms our flight was delayed by 4 hours so our connection in Atlanta was long gone. We decided to get off the plane in CT (they went back to the gate as it was 100*) and went home to sulk. I decided to search for a Laconia getaway, as we have stayed in the area before, and found last minute availability (2 rooms left) at Birch Knoll Motel. Owned by Michael and Janet George, this motel is a fabulous trip to yesteryear with modern day conveniences and technology. There are two buildings with accommodations. In front a single story facing the lake with Adirondack chairs, in back a two-story structure with lake view rooms. Recently renovated (really well done) the rooms are super clean and functional. Bedding is superb (think Marriott) , the bathroom modern and functional, and room is equipped with a medium sized "mini fridge". Onsite pool is in great condition and just across the road from the lake. The motel owns a waterfront dock where guests can sit and enjoy the lake and views. If you happen to have a NH fishing license you can fish as well. There is a game room open till 9 for those rainy or cloudy days. Smoking is allowed in designated areas that are guest friendly and comfortable (I don't smoke but as an ex know how important it is to have a welcoming environment). 24 hour ice machine with soda machine easily accessible. Sure, we missed our great Las Vegas trip but the Birch Knoll did not disappoint. Was still able to treat my hard-working wife (I am retired) to a relaxing getaway. Definitely recommend the second story in the rear building...
Read moreLiked · Very friendly and helpful owners/staff. Exceptionally clean rooms. Found the beds to be very comfortable - had two great nights sleep. Extremely convenient location to Weirs Beach, Bank of NH Pavillon, and all that Lake Winnipesaukee offers. The direct access to Birch Knoll Motel's private docks and beach were a great bonus which we enjoyed. Hoped to enjoy their pool and rec center but we ran out of time. I guess we'll just have to come back!||||Disliked · We greatly enjoyed our stay! Just want to let others know that the extremely convenient location of this motel means that it is located on a fairly busy road (Route 3). The traffic noise (including very loud revving motorcycles and downshifting truck engines) never disrupted our sleep (we had our AC on during our entire stay), but it did make our time utilizing the property's docks and beach not as relaxing as we had hoped. A very minor blip and certainly not a criticism of this motel, just an...
