Bay Top Motel — Hotel in Laconia

First off i booked over 2 weeks in advance (honestly the only thing available in the area i was looking.. hmmm wonder why?). Then i show up to check in and the Owner gave my room away to some other family. Had my name on the reservation and this other guy just signed it. The owner never checked an ID or anything. Then it was very awkward because he had to kick the family out. Then the next morning i mentioned to him a little after 10am (checkout at 11am) that we may check out a little later because we had to run to the store (and ended up stopping at Dunkin Donuts to get breakfast because they do not offer anything except for coffee). He gave me some attitude barely acknowledging what i said. So we called him at 11am while we were out and told him we would be out by Noon at the latest. He again responded with a dismissive attitude saying "ok i guess, i have other people coming"(check in is not until 3pm). By this point i felt extremely uncomfortable and just wanted to pack up the car and go. I figured since he made a big mistake on our check in, maybe he would have a little flexibility... that was not the case. Then we asked if we could just hang out at the picnic table for a little bit to decide what we wanted to do (since we were basically bullied out of our room). He made it sound like we were gonna hang out all day and that was not gonna be acceptable. Honestly, avoid this place and keep lookin!! The most uncomfortable and awkward stay Ive ever had at any...

Nice place been going here 3 years now but, too much money for what you get. I paid $140 for a night.The room comes with complementary Wi-Fi, microwave, mini fridge, and the shower pressure is good.

Some things of note are that the beds are hard and the rooms smaller, more of what you would expect from a motel. They leave the porch lights on all night which I can understand. However, the lights are right in front of your window which ruins a quiet night on the porch. The light shines through the curtains which makes it hard to sleep if you like it dark.There isn't breakfast but there is coffee. The place is clean and I can imagine during the summer months there is a lot more to offer. During the fall the landscaping is dying, pools closed, nobody's grilling and the price didn't come down. They do have a soda machine charges $1 for a can of Pepsi. Owner is nice location is good.

At $140+ a night for 2 people I'd expect breakfast or a fancy room with a view/jacuzzi. If you're on a budget and it's not summer I'd suggest somewhere else. If you want to pay a hotel price for a motel but ease of mind knowing it's clean...

If I could rate zero or negative stars I would. The owner constantly harassed my guests and me, following us out into the parking lot and threatening to call the police because we had 4 people instead of 3 (in a room with 2 queen beds). After explaining to him that only 3 were staying and the fourth was leaving, he continued to linger around the parking lot and creep around windows, intercepting us every time we stopped in for a shower or to grab a sweatshirt. I honestly can't imagine how this hotel is still in business, it was the least welcoming, least comforting place to spend our last night of vacation on the lake.
