A family wedding brought us to Lake City, where normally we stay with family at a cottage on the lake, but due to the number of guests many of us reserved rooms at the Lake View Motel. Overall, our 2-night stay was very nice & accommodating; rooms are not spacious but they are clean, beds are comfortable, the small fridge and microwave was nice to have, a balcony overlooking the lake was relaxing, and the location can't be beat. A 2 minute walk to the public beach and a 5 minute walk to Tasty Treat for ice cream was great!||The issue at hand did not directly affect me but did affect family members of mine: first off, a relative of mine was charged $20 more for the same type of room that I had for the same night (and mine overlooked the lake, his did not have a view of the lake). This difference in price we did not discover until we had checked out on Sunday- otherwise it would have been questioned.||The other larger issue was that another relative had reserved 2 rooms for 2 nights in her name, had called and confirmed her reservation by phone 2 weeks prior, and then actually went in person to confirm her reservation the weekend prior to arriving - but upon checking in was told she only had 1 room in her name.....this left 3 of our family members without a place to stay! And the gentleman at the desk (Keith) only had a response of "sorry, there's another hotel down the road."||This "mistake" left a bitter taste in all of our mouths as we had to scramble to find somewhere for those family members to stay- with no true apology from the motel staff nor any kind of effort to grant a discount/voucher/etc. for the HUGE inconvenience.||I can only assume part of this mess was due to the fact that reservations are kept in a huge, old-fashioned calendar book and are penciled in with no kind of consistency.... who knows if a name was erased accidentally or what.||Either way, overall the motel is a quaint, clean place to stay in the charming town of Lake City. My suggestion upon making reservations would be to get the name of the person you reserve with and then call to confirm a week or two prior to arriving and verifying the type of room you are reserving with the number of beds needed- and getting the name of the person you confirm this with as well.||This motel only has 10 -12 rooms I believe....requesting a lake view room...
Read moreWe have stayed here several times and the owners are very nice. The rooms are decorated in cute bedspreads and are very clean. However, we went there about three years ago and had a bad experience being there the same weekend as several people up there to morel hunt and party. They all congregated below our room and it looked like an all night party. So, my husband went to the office to say we would have to leave as we weren't going to get any sleep. So, someone went to talk to them. They just moved into the room below us and kept up the noise. The next day we thought we might get an offer for a free stay since we had a bad experience. But, nothing. A couple weeks ago we decided to try them again and sent an e-mail asking if the date we wanted was available and how much were the rooms now. Got an automated response saying someone would contact within 24 hours. Never happened. Guess we were the ones labeled the troublemakers for complaining and not the large group. Will miss...
Read moreIf you are looking for something to commemorate your time in Lake City and Lake Missaukee, stop by this gift shop. It’s small and may have limited items, but they have several things that might work for you. They have many clothing items with “Lake City” written on them, t-shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies, and baseball caps. How about moccasins? I was surprised to see the moccasin selection that they have here. Impressive! Small knick-knacks... oh yeah! You may be surprised. They also have an array of toys, wall-hangings, sunblock lotion, coffee mugs, beach towels, sunglasses, pocketknives, and walking sticks. There was nobody at the counter or in the gift shop while I was here. I’m sure if you really wanted some help, all you would have to do is shout. It looked as if there was a door connected to an apartment from the gift shop, so my guess is there wasn’t anyone...
