It's 1969. I'm back in Saigon. I've been out of the bush for too long, I'm getting soft. I'm sitting in a cafe eating a sandwich... Wait. It's 2023. I'm in Lake City. Why am I having flashbacks to the Vietnam War, I'm only 41... because I just ate the Banh Mi Roll at 2 The Moon Bakery, and it was crafted to such an authentic degree that I was transported to the other side of this planet. The quality of ingredients, the purposeful marriage of flavors, and the care with which the food is prepared at this unassuming gem in downtown Lake City are world-class. I've only scratched the surface of the sandwich menu, but I ain't leaving Northern Michigan until I've tried them all. Don't like sandwiches? Well, seek therapy, but also take your pick from the exquisite array of baked goods that rival any Parisienne patisserie. Don't enjoy delectable sweets? I weep for you, but at least buy a loaf of bread. Be warned, you might think it won't happen, but there's a high likelihood that you'll down the whole loaf with a stick of Irish butter in one sitting. I don't know where these yahoos materialized from, but whoever they are, they are masters of their craft, and 2 The Moon Bakery is a gift to this community. It's been two hours since I had lunch there, and I am heavily considering going back for a second time today.
Photos are of the Banh Mi and the Ham & Pickle. I'd post more pics, but I ate the food before I remembered that I...
Read moreGreat bakery!!!! The only problem is that you've got to get there early for the best selection. They sell out of their handmade pastries very quickly. Coffee is really smooth and fragrant and they have options for those of us who don't use cow milk. I haven't tried any of the breakfast or lunch offerings but they sound delicious. They also sell bread and take out foods. The only issue I really have is that it's so small and often crowded at breakfast time....and they run out of pastries I especially love if I come in too late. We often go to this bakery when we visit my sister and bring home to her between $30-40 of pastries to share with her and her husband. The patties stay delicious for several days, if they aren't devoured within 12...
Read moreI lived in Lake City for a little over a year in 2023-2024 with my girlfriend. I’m from and currently living in Jacksonville, Florida, or to my girlfriend, “the big city”, so you could imagine I always said there isn’t squat to do here. But when I found 2 The Moon Bakery, I instantly became a regular and got my usual Caramel Mocha and whichever turnovers they had each day along with whatever paragraph of a drink my girlfriend ordered. Now that I’m back in Jacksonville (home to tons is bakeries and cafe’s), I can say without a doubt after visiting many mundane and boring Jacksonville bakeries/cafe’s, that there is no bakery as good as 2 The Moon and its one-of-a-kind atmosphere. My happiest memories in Lake City are at 2 The Moon....
