This is an older review from 2019 since I was unable to find the resort listed on TripAdvisor. We stayed for 7 nights in a 2 bedroom 2 bath unit. We had never been to the dells but wanted to give it a go this is just one of the 3 Wyndham Resort locations within the dells. This trip was just adults and wanted somewhere peaceful do we opted out of the wilderness lodge and gave Tamarack a go. | Not finding any reviews online I was a little concerned but hoped for the best. Checking in was about 5-10 minutes away from the property at the main location which was Wyndham Wilderness lodge. Once we checked in we drove out to the property at first it didn’t look the best as it is all the way in the very back of another older timeshare development that has townhouse units spread throughout the property. Once we made it to our location I was quite shocked it was actually very nice looking. Wyndham owns one large building with 3 floors that backs up to a very large pond with a fountain in the back. The building has elevators. The exterior was well kept and nicely landscaped with huge beautiful flower pots with towering summer flowers blooming at the sign and walk ways of the building. | The only issue with the room was the counter had crumbs on it upon arrival which we called to the desk and they sent the housekeeper over to clean. And the second bedroom only had 2 twin beds if I remember correctly and they did not have any connectors for the beds to push them together. The unit was spacious and had a large balcony over looking the pond which was beautiful to sit outside on every morning and evening. We visited during August and to our surprise it was very cool in the 60s and we actually wore hoodies most of the time. The property was very quiet and relaxing and definitely the place to go if you want to escape. The property the building is situated on has an activity center etc in which we had access to use but chose not to. It was close to downtown dells and all other attractions but far enough from it all. We were just 20-30 minute drive from Barabo WI which we ended up going to just about everyday. Plenty of shops , ghost tours, museums, places to eat it was the cutest place to go and I became obsessed definitely make the trip you won’t disappoint. I felt safe here and I would definitely go back in a heart beat. The building is undergoing renovations this fall. If I find any photos I will...
Read moreA few friends and us, meet up a few times a year to hang out, since we are long distance from another, we've stayed at several resorts in the area and this time we chose Tamarack Resort. We booked the resort a month or so in advance, which would usually means a cheaper rate. This wasn't the case, the rate on every .com was about half the price than our booking fee the few days leading up to our stay. We arrived at the resort and upon check in, were given the "rules of the resort" talk to as if we were children or at Marine Boot camp, being spoken down too. Upon getting to our townhouse, which by the way on the website looked like individual cabins, not a complex of multiple townhouses, we were very surprised at house nice and clean everything was. Very nice resort with the exception of the beds, the beds were terrible, worse than Mt Olympus Hotels. The floor would have felt better honestly. However, once we all finally fell asleep, 3 am hit us with EVERY SINGLE FIRE ALARM going off. Every battery had become low at the same time emmiting two loud beeps every few minutes nonstop. So we called the front deck, no answer, call security, they say call the front desk at 8am. Granted this is now 5am at this point with other than a few short hours of sleep we are dead tired, finally 8am someone answers and the woman informs us they'll take care of it. 930am comes along, STILL beeping. We decide to try and start our day and continue ahead with our plans, so we call on the way to breakfast, a male answers, he doesn't know anything about any of it, so the previous person, the woman, never told anyone. The male front desk guy tells us that security should have taken care of it when we called at 3am and that "no one deserves that treatment" but offers nothing to appease us. We all lasted barely thru breakfast, as we were all falling asleep at the restaurants table. Needless to say we headed back after breakfast, the alarms were fixed, but now, our entire day was shot, no swimming, no water park, no nothing. Our entire Saturday of paid for plans canceled due to lack of sleep. So not only did we pay $175 more a night than the going rate that weekend, we wasted hundreds of dollars in not being able to make our other destinations that day. So, the resort was decent, needs new beds and better customer service. WAY better customer service. We will look into other resorts on our...
Read moreTamarack Resort is a super scenic and unique destination resort near Mirror Lake that offers a ton of both accommodations and activities. My family and vacationed there last month and we really enjoyed our stay!
I’ll start off by talking about lodging. The resort has five main types of lodging. There are cabins, lofts, studios, and lodges of different sizes, which means there’ll always be something that suits your specific group. The accommodations are divided into housing “colonies,” which makes getting around the resort (and remembering where you’re staying) easier. My understanding is that some of the lodges are actually long-term rentals with people living there full-time, while others (like the one my family and I stayed at in the Terrace Colony) are set up for short-term hotel-style stays. My family and I came to the Wisconsin Dells area for a weekend retreat, and this was the definitely a great way to get us outdoors.
This is an “outdoorsy” resort, so there’s outdoor activities for all ages. Guests can rent electric bikes to explore the surrounding trails, which my parents tried and loved. I actually ended up catching a cold halfway through the trip and couldn’t leave the hotel, but I was pleasantly surprised by how peaceful and quiet the surrounding area was. I was expecting a lot of noise from people’s outdoor activities, but I ended up actually being able to rest comfortably without being disturbed.
Unfortunately, there isn’t complimentary breakfast onsite (as far as I know) and the resort doesn’t seem to serve other meals either. But there are plenty of great breakfast restaurants in the area to make up for that! The resort also offers a 24/7 self-service laundromat, and (although I didn’t try them myself) I believe there are also pools, playgrounds, and other standard hotel-style amenities available.
One final thing I would note is that the staff can be pretty strict about check-in and check-out times, so be aware of that and plan accordingly. 👍🏼 But overall, I'd say that this cozy, camp-style destination resort has enough lodging and activities available to make it a great fit...
