I reserved their most expensive room, the King Suite, because my wife and like to have a sitting area separate from the bedroom. Much to our dismay the room had another full size bed instead of a sofa sitting area. The heat wasn't working in our room #216, so they moved us to room #210 which also had a king bed and another full size bed. We were happy to just have heat at that point. I asked about this upon check out and was told they replaced many of the King Suite sitting areas with these extra beds. Well the extra bed was totally useless and in the way, and made the room no better then their less expensive single bed room. Here is the room description on their website "The Castaneda King Suite includes 1 King-size bed & Separate Sitting Area located throughout the hotel. Views Vary"....
We had dinner at the bar/restaurant and were disappointed. My wife had a cauliflower pasta and I had a stuffed pepper... a handful of pasta for her and a small pepper me. No accompanying items, no bread, no salad, just a tiny portion for about 20 bucks each. With two drinks and a tip...$70 for two We found it humorous reflecting on the Fred Harvey mission statement and meals that were served there in the early 1900's. And certainly not up to what we have come to expect from the Range.
We enjoyed the hotel stay despite being uncomfortable with our room(s) and feeling a bit ripped off. The renovation work is well done and it is a beautiful place inside. The staff was friendly and accommodating. I really enjoyed the artwork...
Read moreI live in Las Cruces and went to Las Vegas, New Mexico for a weekend work project with my synagogue, to restore their old building. I am in a wheelchair and needed a hotel with a roll in shower. This hotel was practically the only one in town that had one , but the hotel turned out to be a gem ! The room was extremely comfortable, for both me and my aide , roomy and the roll in shower was great. We loved having a view of the railroad tracks, and had a great time. When we walked across the parking lot to the old station, which was a visitor center. The hotel staff was very helpful, however, I didn't give it five stars because there's no phone from the room to the front desk. This was a real pain in the neck, because every time we needed to speak with someone about assistance with the room , like how to set thermostat, my aide. Had to go down stairs to find someone, there was no phone to call them! On the other hand, my group wanted to arrange a dinner for the whole group on a one-day notice. I spoke directly with the restaurant manager and the chef about serving 18 people, and they were wonderful. They arranged for us to eat in a private room, which was perfect for everyone, and we only had to order off the menu. The servers tried very hard to look after us, even though it was a very large party with a lot of different requests. I give a lot of credit to the hotel and the restaurant people for providing an excellent and extremely pleasant dinner for our large party as part of our visit...
Read moreI came to visit as I had previously visited LA Posada and was curious to see another Harvey Hotel. This has been newly renovated in the past few years. I arrived and was given an option of two rooms as there was a note that I had made a special request, which was not accurate. It did give me a view of one of the suites and a single. Both of which were nice. The suite, however, crammed a king and a queen in making it very crowded with the other furniture there. Unless you have a group sharing, it was not really relaxing. Would be better served to actually have seating or office space in the suite. I went with my original, which had a comfortable bed, and updated walk-in shower. ||The furniture looked to be period or reproductions and fit the space well. I walked around the hotel, which had many doors, some of which had unique stained glass above, which was a nice touch. Hope they continue with that. I enquired about the doors, and it appears they expanded some of the rooms but left the doors for historical reasons.|The resteraunt was closed, but I was able to walk through. The lobby could be a little more inviting.||Overall, I feel it is a lesser cousin to La Posada right now, but only...
