We thought we would skip the freeway and head into the heart of Montana on our way back from the West Coast to North Dakota. This was our one big splurge for ourselves this summer. What a disappointment. The internet was slow and almost non-exsistant. When I called the hotel lobby to tell them about it, their response was "Oh well the hotel is full and there are too many users". When I called to make the reservations I told them I was a teacher and needed to work on school stuff online. They assured me they had great internet! The truth would have worked better. The next morning my wife and I ran out of hot water during our showers. Again I told the hotel staff about this and again their response was that the hotel was pretty full! Apparently they had previously run out of toilet paper because when we noticed we were running low in the morning we looked around to discover we didn't have any extra rolls! The coffee was undrinkable and parking non-existent. We had to park on the street and haul our own luggage up two flights of stairs. The television was on a back wall and impossible to see. Avoid this place like the plague. Stay on the freeway and go through Billings, MT and get a hotel for 1/2 the price with...
Read moreLocated 1 block off Maine Street near the Library and town center, this hotel is a fantastic marriage of boho modern and upscale MCM. The building is a renovated dormitory that hints at a bygone era. I see some work is still proceeding, but the staff and owners of this property seem to have done a very good job with keeping it out of sight. Breakfast is a nice blend of hot foods like scrambled eggs and bacon, sausage and potatoes. But the food is by no means what you'd get at a regular hotel, they've taken the time to flavor to perfection. You have your choice of pastries, a selection of yogurts and cheeses and fruits as well. No hotel can please everyone 100% so we expect some negatives. I will not judge the Calvert harshly as this one truly does deserve to shine in its class. I only have two things that I would change to make this stay 100% I felt the beds were a little on the firm side, but not so much that it caused any sleep reduction. There should be a lamp on the desk or nearby. That's all. The Calvert gets +'s for , service, style, historical significance, breakfast, bedding and decor, and attention to detail. Definitely a place you...

We tried to phone and make a reservation but no one answered the phone. We were on the road and needed a place to stay with our two dogs. I decided to make a reset and clearly stated on the reservation that we had pets with us and included my phone number.
We arrived at the hotel only to be told they did not have our booking. When I explained that I had booked it online with my phone he said “Oh - that explains it”. I then told him I had two dogs as per my online booking and he just nodded.
Got the key and fetched the dogs from the car only to be accosted at the door and told we cannot bring dogs in! At this point there was no effort to help us out - no apologies at all and we were sent packing with all the other hotels fully booked we were lucky to find accommodations 20 minutes away.
Had anyone bothered to check the online bookings or answer the phone this disaster could have been avoided.
BTW the room was N inner courtyard with opaque windows and very claustrophobic. Take care when booking this property. Staff are not very...
