My friend and I stopped in after Mass to have breakfast. We went to the counter to check because it was very busy. We were told to wait by the entrance and we would have the next available table. We watched a family of 5 come in and they did the same thing. We watched as a table became available with three chairs. We started to go to the table and were told that we couldn't sit there because it was for the family of 5. The patriarch of the family was upset because he knew we were there before him. The two waitresses argued about who should be seated first. The waitress that told us to wait made sure we got the table. The table behind us opened up and the one who told us we couldn't sit there put them there but loudly proclaimed that the young boy would have to sit at the end because someone sitting at the end would interfere with the traffic flow of the restaurant. Apparently it was ok that the prior table occupants had an adult sitting at the end. I didn't catch what happened but while we were close to walking out due to the way we were treated by the older waitress, the family had enough and walked out without ordering. We watched two other groups of people walk out. The older waitress made sparky comments about other customers. Our waitress was very kind and attentive. The food was amazing. If I had to do it again. I would've ordered take out and take it home to...
Read moreAverage food for a decent price. Normally I wouldn't even review a standard diner except for the encounter at end of our meal. When the server, who was very pleasant, asked how everything was, I answered truthfully without attitude. Both my wife and I agreed the sausage gravy was lukewarm, even cool in parts. The server said she would talk to the kitchen.
Unexpectedly, as we were about to leave, one of the cooks showed up to the table with a digital thermometer and confrontational posture. She temped a new small cup of streaming gravy and showed the temp to me without even much of an explanation. Slightly taken aback, since the temp of this new gravy had nothing to do with our experience of the gravy we ate several minutes before, I questioned whether they temped all their gravy, or whether ours sat too long, because I really didn't expect that response. I wasn't expecting an apology or anything free; I've worked in kitchens, and just wanted them to know. But I certainly wasn't expecting to be gaslit about our experience, as if we couldn't know cool gravy when we eat it just because a different cup of gravy was apparently hotter at the precise moment it was temped on front of us. Silly response.
On a better note, again, the server was pleasant, the food came quick, and my son's pancake was...
Read more07/26/23 Came back to 406... finally had their breakfast... OMGOSH.... they weren't kidding when they said it's one of the best! It was amazing! My son told me to have the Biscuits and Gravey, very hesitant at first cause I never had them... I was in heaven, Biscuits were crunchy through the whole meal, gravey was thick with just enough sausage... WOW! Coffee was excellent! Staff was friendly, attentive just so around a awesome place to be.
406 is the only place we stopped to eat in Lewistown and I'm so glad we did. Its a little corner spot my son told me about, he went to eat there with his boss. We're from WA state so it was so nice to feel welcomed when we walked inside. The server, I wish I got her name, went above and beyond with us, she was very friendly got us laughing a couple of times. If they had 10 stars I would totally give it just on her attitude. The food was incredible! The fries are to die for, tasted my husband's.. tater tots were perfect, crunchy and just enough seasoning. Prices were worth everything we got, big portions. Next time we go visit we're definitely going to stop there for breakfast and lunch. Unfortunately we didn't get breakfast there, but from what everyone says,...
