It started at check in. I showed up and tried to check in and was met by a new employee and she went through the motions and I could tell you was confused as to something on the screen. The card reader would not prompt for the card and also the more experienced clerk tried to help and the new one pointed at the screen and the olther one said it don’t matter about that as she said he’s with a group so we need to put him with the group. So she changed my room which turned out to be a handicap room. I am 6’2” land I cannot use a sink that is 3 feet or so for the floor and there was no place to put any of my items in the bathroom. They finally took my credit card and swiped it behind the counter and the charge immediately showed up at my bank (this is important later). The next morning I went to the front desk and asked to get a regular room and she said absolutely (a different person). She said well yiou are not even registered in the hotel. So she commenced to register me and gave me a different room , she was most friendly and genuinely wanted to help me. I got my new room key and went to change rooms. I took a a shower the next morning and by the time I was finished I was standing in 2 feet of water as the drain did not drain. I told the front desk and she made a note of it to tell maintenance. I also told her the AC would not move off of low fan and if it did it stopped cooling all together. Later that day I went to my room in midday and the card key would not work. I went to the front desk to get the key reprogrammed. Another member of my group was trying to check in and said you only need a key go ahead of me. That’s were I was greeted by the clerk named Cosby. Cosby said he would fix the card key. An hour and half later still no key and had to have a manager help me. Cosby said well your not registered at the hotel, I said I’ve been here 2 days and stayed the night in 2 different rooms. He said well your room is showing a different number than what it is (not my problem). He said what I need you to do is put yiour credit card in here. I said let me stop you right there that ain’t happening the hotel has already placed a hold on 4 nights stay at my bank I am not getting charged again and then have to wait on it to be released. He aid I need your ID I should him my ID through a see through window in my billfold leaching he grabbed and placed by billfold on his table. He kept getting on a cell phone and talking to someone. I said is the person you are talking to Lehrer at the hotel he said they are taking care of it. I said that’s not what I asked you. He said yes, they are here, I said well get them down here I have stuff to do. Cosby started to give me a lesson on how credit cards worked which insulted me greatly as I have a Masters Degree and a business degree and am 58 years old I know all to well how credit cards and banks work. The Second Lady from the first day arrived at the desk and was trying to help a customer that apparently Cosby had told on the phone that her room was ready and now the lady told her it wasn’t. Cosby and the lady got into an argument and she said take care of your customer and Ill take care of mine. Then a manger Amit showed up and he too had words with Cosby and sent Cosby away and told me he would take care of it. He said sign the screen and acknowledge the next screen. I did, he gave me keys and I was on my way. I told him about the tub drain and AC unit. He said let him know if it was not fixed later that day. Later I went to my room and ran the tub water and it seemed to drain properly and I noticed it was cooler in the room and then saw that they had replaced the control panel on the AC unit it was fixed. I later saw Amit at the front desk and said thanks it seemed the issues were resolved. But, the next morning before leaving the hotel I took a a shower and the drain did not drain. I waited at the front desk the second day I was there for 15-20 minutes trying to by a coffee drink from the cooler and Cosby was no where to be found. I found 2 housekeepers and they could not speak English and were no help. I put the drink up and dis without. I saw another worker and she said she would check and then came told me Cosby was in the dining area and he was back now. I went to by the coffee drink he said it was $5 I told him I had tried to buy it earlier and he said oh well $4. This was the worst hotel I have been in and I stay in a lot of hotels. The staff need training, the rooms need maintenance. There are only 3 luggage carts form the whole hotel. The breakfast was good. The bartender was awesome. One evening I heard some noise outside my room and went to look it was a hotel employee scraping the room number block off the wall and reapplying it. He did this down the hall to various rooms. Later I went out to get dinner and noticed he either put too much epoxy on it or did not mix the hardener in it as they were all sliding down the wall and some were in the floor. It was a mess. Every time I came to may room I would slide the number back up the wall. It never stuck. This was the worse experience in a Clarion Hotel I have ever had. I was with the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary and there were complaints throughout our group of similar...
Read moreI am writing to formally request a full refund for my stay at Clarion Hotel KY231 (Lexington, KY), where I checked in at 5:44 PM on May 17, 2025. I reserved Room 603-a family suite-specifically to provide a safe and enjoyable overnight experience for my daughters and their friends. Unfortunately, our stay directly contradicted the standards of safety, service, and family accommodation that Clarion Hotels publicly committed to.
While the daytime front desk agent (ID: cminio) and the breakfast were the only positive aspects of our visit, the rest of the experience was deeply concerning and fell far short of basic expectations. I want to ensure the following issues are clearly outlined and aligned with your own policies:
Unsafe Environment in the Pool Area
The pool was filled with unsupervised children who were using foul language and making sexually explicit comments directed at other children. An adult couple was engaged in inappropriate and overt sexual behavior-“tongue kissing”-in the presence of children. No hotel staff were visible in the area to enforce rules or intervene, despite Clarion’s stated commitment to family-friendly environments.
Rodent Activity and Room Concerns
A mouse was seen running down the hallway near our room. Out of fear for our safety, I placed towels under the door to prevent it from entering our room. This must be a violation of basic cleanliness and health standards expected in a hotel environment.
Extreme Overnight Disruption and Lack of Staff Response
Between 1:30 AM and nearly 5:00 AM, groups of unsupervised minors ran through the halls yelling, banging on doors, and even referencing physical fights taking place elsewhere in the hotel. I attempted to call the front desk multiple times and received no answer. Other guests also resorted to yelling into the hallway out of desperation. The noise, chaos, and total lack of enforcement made it impossible to sleep or feel secure.
Failure to Uphold Guest Safety and Customer Service Standards
Clarion and Choice Hotels advertise a commitment to guest satisfaction, safety, and professionalism. This experience violated each of those principles. As a mother, a paying guest, and a Choice Hotels Rewards Member, I expected at minimum:
A safe, quiet room at night Access to hotel staff when issues arise Basic cleanliness and pest control An environment suitable for children and families
Had I been able to reach the parents of the children I was hosting, I would have left the hotel during the night. We were left to endure a dangerous and chaotic environment because no one on your staff responded or intervened.
This was not the experience I paid for, and it certainly is not reflective of Clarion’s stated values or policies. I am formally requesting a full refund-in the same form of payment- and an acknowledgment of the conditions that were permitted to exist on the night...

Writing this at 2am from the room.
After a full day of flying across the country, I couldn't get any sleep here. Every time I started to fall asleep, the sound of scratching in the walls or someone coughing and talking directly outside my window would wake me up. It's bizarre that from the second floor, you can hear someone walking across the pavement.
When I checked in, the staff were more interested in having a conversation with each other than getting me to a room. When they did interact with me, they acted very oddly, like it was some performance that they were barely containing. I don't think I've ever had a front desk attendant try to get me to open a credit card for a hotel before, and that was also weird.
The room is badly lit- light switches are nonexistent and there's an inexplicable black granite coffee table in the middle of the room that is nearly invisible, and you WILL gouge your shin on it in the dark.
The bedsheets were also backwards; the duvet was Underneath the top sheet. I have never seen this at a hotel before. The sheets were also wrinkled in the center of the bed after pulling back the duvet. Weird.
The door to the room does not fit the frame - so much so that there is a clear gap and light from the hall is seen. The bathroom door is also hung poorly, so it always closes. The latch of the door is falling, so I was nearly locked in the bathroom.
There are several fake reviews on Google boosting this hotels numbers, and I regret not looking into them further before booking.
Update: At 4amish, I was woken up by something running over me. Took a shower, the drain completely backed up, and the tub is not sealed at all, so it flooded the bathroom in less than 10 minutes.
During breakfast, I overheard other people say that the rats kept them up. Staff also confirmed that rats have been a problem. So, that's cool.
The manager is not on site until a few days from now, and there is no direct phone number to talk to anyone other than the front desk staff. I've been promised that they will call me, and I'm not optimistic about it.
At this point, I would be surprised if someone hasn't stolen the catalytic converter off the rental car in the...
