Fat Man Reviews took a trip to Sedona Taphouse on Newtown Pike. Sedona Taphouse offers a made-from-scratch menu inspired by Southwest cuisine.
I ordered the T2T Lemon Basil Martini, made with Pearl Vodka, fresh lemon and basil. The vodka and basil are very forward. The basil is present through the entire drink. The lemon is surprisingly subtle. $1 of every drink sold goes to the Tunnel to Towers foundation.
My fiancé tried the Skinny Girl Tangerine POM spritzer, made with skinny girl vodka, tangerine POM juice and soda. The POM and soda come through with sweet and tart flavor. However, the tangerine is hidden. The drink is light and refreshing.
We decided to have the Canyon Crab Flatbread, made with crab meat, melted cheese and rémoulade. The crab is light, sweet, seasoned well and plentiful with a heavy amount of mozzarella that is melted well. The flatbread has grill marks, but it soft and could have been toasted. The rémoulade is sweet with just a touch of heat, it pairs well with the crab. The dish was a little cool when it arrived.
My fiancé ordered the NY Strip with seasonal veggies and garlic whipped potatoes. The steak had nice grill marks, it was ordered medium rare but arrived rare. It was a tough and very fatty piece of steak. It is seasoned well, and the seasonal butter adds a nice salty garlic flavor. The veggies are very salty and mushy as they are not freshly prepared. The potatoes had way too much garlic that was overpowering and hard to eat.
For my entrée I ordered the Roman Parmesan Crusted Chicken. This dish is made with pan fried panko and cheese chicken, Italian salsa, mozzarella, roasted Brussels sprouts and garlic whipped potatoes. Unfortunately, it never arrived.
Sedona offers brunch, lunch and dinner. They have a large list of craft beers and wines. Our original server was nice but never returned, we eventually flagged down another sever who attempted to bring my entrée only for it to be incorrect. The manager we spoke with took care of the bill and gave us gift cards to return and give them another chance. FMR will return, but a fair review is in order. The Fat Man says that Sedona Taphouse is NOT Fat...
Read moreThe wife and I were down from Michigan to tour the Bourbon Trail to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Sedona was recommended by the desk clerk at our hotel. When we arrived and were seated, the noise level from the kids in the restaurant was off the charts and we had to literally talk in each other's ears to hear. After being seated, we waited. And waited. And waited. Twenty five minutes and the servers were paying ZERO attention to us. All the tables around us? Plenty of service for them, but we were literally being ignored. I finally snagged someone and explained our situation and asked if we could get a server to at least bring some water. There was a lot of exchanged glances between three employees trying to figure out (at least that's what it looked like) before a server finally waited on us. I asked her how long service would be, and the nervous look on her face did not give me hope. Ten more minutes to get a drink. Meanwhile, the two tables of children on either side of us would not stop busting in and out of their table areas. Bumping into our table continuously, eventually actually bumping up against my wife near the end of our meal. At this point, I asked him if they would PLEASE stop doing that. Ironically, the parents were sitting directly across from us, and didn't do anything to dissuade them from bothering us nor did the staff do anything about it. Though we do plan to return for more of the Bourbon Trail, we will never return to Sedona nor will we recommend...
Read moreFull disclosure: the majority of my dinner mates enjoyed their Alfredo and shrimp'n'grits. I came in to get the Chuckwalla chicken for an entree with the bruschetta for an app. I was told upon entering. Both of those things were out of stock, along with a laundry list of other offerings, leaving me to choose a STH burger with bacon succotash.
Let's start with the drinks - I started with a smoked old fashioned. What I received was an old fashioned of sorts, sans orange, cherry, and hickory smoke. After that I tried the el patron margarita, which seemed to consist mostly of ice.
I received the burger after about an hour. The burger is 'wagyu', which I take to mean frozen preformed patty of a cow named wagyu. The burger had a small line of the jima slaw and some sauce on it with a slice of cheese. The burger was cold, the bun was stale, and the patty was without seasoning and was clearly freezer burnt. It was absolutely the worse burger I've ever had in my life, and for 17 dollars, it was obviously sent back.
The bacon succotash was simiarly cold, lacking any flavor and was an abject disappointment.
The bathrooms were clean, but both sinks were broken in the men's room.
We came here for my wife's birthday and again, they all seemed to like their food alright, but no one had any real positive things to say other than 'it was food'. I will not be returning, and I wouldn't recommend this to anyone. The value for the dollar does not exist here,...
