Had a great summer getaway at a good price. A walk without crossing streets to a protected enclosed beach and a full kitchen made this our pick. The staff was accommodating in letting us invite friends to spend the day park their cars (obviously wouldn't happen if the place was full) and use our room to shower and change.
If you have kids the beach is what makes this place a winner, it is not over crowded but not deserted and lot's of other kids are there too. Maybe you can see on maps and satellite photos how the cove has 20 foot cliffs on either side. This makes it an easy place to keep track of your kids and let the run around too.
There is an amazing inexpensive Hawaiian fast food place at the corner and restaurant and delis are an easy walk. The board walk is a short drive away so this neighbor hood is much calmer.
The hotel was clean and functional, but not fancy. Kitchen was fully equipped. We are a low end motel family, so some of the rough edges were easy for us to ignore, but I don't think they are entirely wrong. My concern would be the walls were thin, are neighbors were quite (and polite) for college kids so it wasn't an issue, but I think it could have been. I think you have factor in price and location, and give them a break. And I rarely bother to fill these things out so I was inspired to balance some of the other perspectives and experiences. Which I must admit don't seem far fetched, I can imagine the small staff missing a reservation, and things in the motel are not new. The cot is a rubber mat, things like that.
I gave it an excellent rating because I had an excellent time and that is the bottom line. I am about...

Long story,
I have been staying here with my family since I was little and Sunny Cove has become an important place for us. Last year I decided I wanted to propose to my fiance on this same beach and booked a reservation on Thursday for the following weekend. Turns out I accidentally booked for the following Friday night. I spoke with the gentleman at the hotel and he informed us that his manager would be in in the morning and that we'd be able to work something out to move the dates. The next morning comes and the manager tells us to get lost and that they wouldn't do anything to help us and cancelled our reservation. So I charged back my card. Instead of working with us they went silent for a year and I received a collections letter in the mail for nearly double the original amount. What was supposed to be a special and memorable moment has turned into a financial nightmare. We would have continued to stay here several more times despite the price to service/amenities ratio. Beware of the owner. She is rude and will not accommodate you. She will choose one night of pay over giving you a memorable experience that would lead to several more stays. It's...
Read moreI was there twice. The first time, price and room were ok. The second time, room #16, for $200, not so good. First of all, to take $200 for a dark basement hole is a bit steep. There is so much noise involved. You can hear people walking up and down the house above you every five minutes someone cleaning their feet from the sand (you can hear in room #16 the water line every time they use it) up to 5 cars parked in front of the room plus the cars on the street.
When I spent the night there, on my birthday, a car's alarm went off from 2am-3am and then again from 4-5am. Since there is no one at the overnight reception, no one took care of it. When I mentioned it the lady at the reception she replied: "oh I am sorry" and disappeared. No manager, no courtesy, what so ever. For heaven's sake, I went to this place to spent the night there to celebrate my birthday.
Lack of responsiveness, lack of product knowledge (lady on the reception could not explain to me how the price added up with all the fees acronyms) and a lack of consideration making it a place which I won't consider next time.
To sum up: Don't spend your...
