I had a terrible experience and I will not be coming back. I was very nervous to be staying at an inn during the pandemic but had to come out to California for personal reasons, and so I did not want housekeeping coming into my room during my stay. I specified that very clearly on my second day via text message, and when I came home that night I saw that housekeeping came in anyway. They moved my personal belongings on the bed being my own flat sheet I had brought from home and my pajamas, and they moved clothing items that I had in my bathroom. It ended up making the remainder of my stay extremely uncomfortable and scary since people I don't know touched my things during a pandemic. It is utterly pathetic and unacceptable for an inn who charges at this rate to make such a careless mistake. Also, the temperature in the hallway / my room the first couple of days was absurdly warm for the third floor of an inn during an August heat wave, and the inn overall felt very dirty and dingy particularly in the hallways and my bathroom. There were black mold spots on the ceiling of the bathroom, rust stains, the door knobs looked disgusting, the AC vents were closed and filthy, and I also did not feel very safe on the property in general. It almost feels like a scam saying that my room was such an "upgrade" with "ocean views." You can barely see the ocean; you mainly just see a seedy looking main street with loud traffic. The parking lot is also absolutely ridiculous. There are not enough spaces, they are too close together, and the whole tiny parking lot is also completely sloped. The people in the kitchen were strangely attitude-ish; twice we were walking through the hallway when they almost ran into us and didn't even say excuse me or apologize. Upon arrival the manager also immediately was concerned with taking my credit card information as soon as possible and finding out my car info. It was a strange almost hostile feeling. For the prices you charge, this is a joke. Never staying here again or recommending to anyone. Thanks for making my stay...
Read moreI have mixed feelings about Channel Road Inn. In the interest of being fair, I am breaking down my review into topics.
Location: excellent. Near the beach and felt safe the entire time. Coming and going was more difficult during high traffic times, but that seems to be the norm in LA and surrounding areas.
Hotel: generally clean and well-decorated. There is no AC here. Nice seating on the main floor and outside. Parking is a bit tight when it’s busy.
Check in: we had very friendly service from Elle but we were charged twice for the hotel stay. Completely unacceptable and created an inconvenience to resolve with the hotel and the bank (especially with currency conversion as we are from a different country).
Room: While the room seemed clean and had nice coastal decor, it had a pissy, musty cat smell (despite the windows being open). The tub was also slow to drain. The room had sheer curtains and we were situated near the main road, so we felt exposed! The bed/pillows were comfy. They had a nice welcome note with two cookies. On night 1, it was so intolerably hot that I had to request a fan. Then I learned the heating was on (mind you it was like 26 degrees C outside so why did the heat need to be on)! The room was cooler later on once the heating was turned off.
Complimentary breakfast: we were very pleased with service and breakfast from Zach! He demonstrated pride in his work. The breakfast the next day was so so. The coffee was FANTASTIC on both days. Many options for different diets.
Check out: no secure space to hold your suitcase for a few hours after you check out. Not ideal but not the end of the world.
Santa Monica is beautiful and for the rate, the hotel wasn’t a terrible stay. They just need to improve check-ins and the state...
Read moreTwo words sum up this charming guest house - Utterly Superb! My son and I chose to commence our holiday in California at this wonderful location and it was the perfect way to begin. After a long and tiring journey we were warmly welcomed by friendly staff and a comfortable, clean and well presented room. After a perfect night’s sleep we felt refreshed and ready for our adventures. Breakfast was fantastic with delicious home cooked dishes (I still want the recipe for the homemade granola too!). The location is perfect for exploring and the beach is a short walk, the house is charming with period decor carefully and tastefully updated and appointed with modern amenities. I loved the piped classical music which gave a very calm atmosphere. The staff were attentive to our needs and ever friendly, providing great local knowledge to enhance our sightseeing and at all times my son and I felt welcomed. My only regret during our 2 night stay was that we were too busy to indulge in the cheese and wine served in the afternoon but judging by the wonderful homemade cookies and sweet treats left out for us, I have no doubt it would have been equally sensational! I cannot rate this guest house highly enough, in a world of sterile concrete and steel hotels which put business efficiency and guest turnaround before customer experience, this location provides the perfect and proper way to relax and unwind on vacation. I would (and will) definitely return in future. Thank you so very much to Violetta, Delaney and all your kind staff, you made the first 2 days of our American adventure the perfect welcoming experience!! Simon & Thomas...
