1849 Mountain Rentals at Mammoth's Canyon Lodge — Hotel in Mammoth Lakes

When we arrived, our very outdated condo smelled like stale cigarette smoke, and the people staying next to us were clearly consuming cannabis products as the hallway wreaked of it. They also had a very loud dog that was barking constantly, but we were willing to let all of that go. We’re easygoing folks. We were also unable to use the pool or hot tub with our children because starting at 330pm until late, they were crammed full of 20-somethings blasting loud music and drinking. Again, all fine, we didn't complain, despite our kids being bummed.

What was disturbing was when the property manager showed up at our unit before check-out time and started yelling at my wife and small kids because we were running a few minutes late (this was at 9:30am, 30 mins before we had to be out). We had requested a late checkout earlier due to a snowstorm the night before that was setting us back and the fact that we were wrangling 6 kids under 7, but we were declined. Again, fine, we were only running a few mins late at this point and even offered to allow the cleaners to start while we finished packing our car. The manager was not interested in reasoning with us and had zero sympathy as he continued to send threatening messages. We had the kids out the door at 10:15 (15 mins late) and were on the road by 10:30, yet they charged us $100 and told us that if we left a bad review, they would have it removed. The whole interaction was quite disturbing and unsettling.

So be warned, the people that run this place care very little for their guests and could use a few lessons in customer service.

We enjoyed our stay and loved the location. Our constructive criticism is: *The cleaners took a long time and therefore we couldn't get in until well after 4pm, the check in time so it was a long day of waiting around. *Every accommodation place we have ever stayed in has had a compendium type book of some sort however there was absolutely nothing in the unit to help us know anything which was very inconvenient. *So instructions on how to operate anything in the unit including and most frustratingly was that we had no idea how to work the television and what the various remote controls were for or what channels to watch. *No information about the heating/wood fire, it was all guess work. *No information about Public Transport, buses, taxis, Gondola times, Restaurants, where we could order a take away, where the Supermarkets were, the opening hours and how we could get there, not one map of the area and absolutely no information about the ski mountain or any other local attraction. There was a humidifier in the bedroom and again, absolutely no instructions on how to operate it. *The bed was ok but as it is a high wooden bed which is not for everyone, especially difficult for short people and you just had to turn over in the bed and it was noisy and this in itself would prevent me from re-booking that particular room next time. An ensemble bed would be much more appropriate and comfortable. ~We had friends staying across the road and they had a much more personable setup with a compendium with suggestions of where to eat out, what to do, a visitors sign in book, a write up about the area etc. This stuff is not a necessity but would have made a big...

1849 is in a great location. Ease of walking to the slopes and not having to find parking. Staff was helpful and friendly. Amenities were well kept...spa, sauna, dvd library, hot coffee, tea, cocoa station. Walkways were clear of snow and ice even with huge storms this season.

Unit 561 is in need of some tender loving care. Lights are dim so unit very dim in the evenings but bright in the mornings with the sunlight streaming in. Shower doors barely slide. Had to request blanket for the bed that was missing. No blow dryer. Pots and pans warped. Door to bedroom will not close in order to fit the two twin beds in the room and cannot run heater in that room as it touches the bedspread.
