This resort is good and bad. If you stay in a cabin here DO NOT STAY IN A OLD ONE. I stayed in an old cabin and it was a hot mess! First, the bathroom was SO SMALL that I could barely get in it and I am not fat. The toilet stale was tiny. And the toilet itself was so small and low that I could hardly get up. It was boat sized! I think it is a relic from the 50s? The kitchen had a leaky facet on the cold side. Two of the old stove burners clicked the whole time when using with broken starters. The kitchen had ZERO overhead cabinets to store your food so my food was left in their bags/boxes on the dining room table and floor. Basically NONE of the their old rustic cabins have wall cabinets for your food storage. How much would it costs to go to Lowes and buy 1-2 pre-painted kitchen cabinets for each rustic cabin??? They only had one trash bag in the trash container in the kitchen and zero extras under the sink which was annoying. And the sink strainer adjustment was broken so you had to hold it up in the sink if you wanted to drain the sink without clogging it! And the final touch was the mouse trap next to the trash container in the corner of the kitchen. The last night I was there the trap caught a mouse and kept me up all night banging around in the trap trying to escape. The old wood cabin floor had three or four spongy soft spots in it, so it felt like I would fall thru the floor with a hard placed foot. The bed in the bedroom was way too soft and I had a sore back each day. Almost pulled all the blankets off the bed and slept on the floor with the dog. The lighting in the cabin was another fail. I don't know where they got the bed and couch reading lights but they need to be placed another foot or more higher so you could actually read by them. Super annoying! And finally, the worst thing about the interior of this cabin was the heating. Only the living room with the iron stove had a thermostat. They had another very LOUD propane heater in the dining room that would run all the time. And in the bedroom they had a tiny standing portable plugin floor heater that never threw out enough heat and was very loud so I only ran it in the morning. The heating system needs to all run as one and be synced. On the outside of the cabin all the cabin windows needed a good washing. The brown painting on the deck and front door was all coming off due to ski boots grinding it off. The worst part about the outside of this cabin by far is the parking area. What a total nightmare! On the driver side of the parking stall there is a huge boulder you have to drive over when backing out. This boulder needs removing/grinding down so you can back out without crashing. You have to turn sharp to get out of the stall and when your front driver wheel goes over the boulder the car wants to roll off of it fast. Unfortunately, some idiot who owns the cabin next to the Tamarack Property has stacked huge boulders right behind your stall on his property, so you will hit them if you don't slam the breaks after rolling off the boulder and do a three point turn. If removing the boulders is not possible put a heavily padded stack on the Tamarack Property so cars are not damaged by this vindictive neighbor! Also, the steep road into the cabin is a dead end. If you mistakenly drive down it and all the cabin parking stalls are full, you will have to back up a VERY steep road. In the winter this would be a total nightmare. To avoid this problem they need to put a sign at the top that says "Dead End Cabin Road, Not a Thru Street. You will be backing up if not parking!" I would avoid this cabin like the plague! Cabin 21 folks. It basically needs a proper remodel. The other thing I noticed on the Tamarack Property was small trash, cans, and used dog bags everywhere. They do have dog trash bag containers in a few places but they are full of cans and bottles from the idiots in the campgrounds putting trash in them. They need to put bear box trash cans in a few locations in the parking lot that get...
Read moreThe hotel itself is quaint and has an old school feel, heater takes a very long time to heat up, breakfast is good , Lobby is cozy with the fireplace. Went from the Tesla website to Mammoth Mountain where I booked a hotel room. I called the number associated with the hotel room to confirm ahead of time that there was a Tesla destination charger they said that they did . I called again and got transferred to the call center to fix my reservation because I booked it for the wrong day. I called again to make sure there was a Tesla destination charger they said yes. I show up to find it didn't have a destination charger and had to find a supercharger in town the next day which added about two hours to my trip . The man who checked us in stayed late because of the snow storm to help us out which was very nice of him the man in the morning cleaned off a car which was also kind of nice. I called back the original number I called to confirm the Tesla destination charger who transferred me to call center where I said I would like a partial refund because of the inconvenience of the incorrect information . At which point they said they needed to investigate all the calls and then I need to call the original Hotel I stayed. I called the original Hotel I stayed and they went on to say that the issue was because I called the wrong place after I got off the phone I did some more research called again and again and eventually figured out that The village lodge and tamarick are owned by the same company. Which is where the confusion came from if the companies and the call center would verify specific information regarding which hotel there wouldn't be an issue; now the reason why I thought I was calling the correct number at first was because it was associated with my reservation when I booked it which was on the website Tesla had provided which is associated with several hotels but they are all owned by the same person so the number given for the reservation was wrong but when you call they pull up all your information so tell me what kind of person goes all Sherlock Holmes and says wait a second are you the correct Hotel , if a hotel can pull up your visit reservation then obviously that's Hotel you're staying at actually not ! the call center information given to you will also get you at the same place every time and they can access any reservation for any hotel but it is actually only specific to certain hotels. So after having to call so many different people and being told I had made the error from several different hotels and the call center I finally figured out that it's actually an issue of miscommunication from the multiple websites. There is nothing wrong with a company owning multiple hotels what's an issue is if they don't have the correct information going around also if multiple hotels have access to multiple reservations, I wonder if the employees themselves even though they're associated with such a large chain of hotels. And phone numbers and then somebody who is out of town decides to visit and and potentially could get stuck or stranded because of miscommunication. At this point I could care less if I get a partial refund at all I think it's actually ridiculous all the issues I had to sort through just to find the root of the actual problem which had nothing to do with me it has to do with the actual organization of the hotels themselves. I just know I will not stay here or any Associated hotel ever again because of the amount of investigating I had to personally do and how reluctant the hotel was as well as the call center to solve this actual issue all they cared about was 'investigating' and conducting a thorough overview. ** Tesla owners...
Read moreThis was both a cozy and great spot for our ski/snowboard trip that comes with a few caveats that people should be aware of as they book!
A few pros: *The lodge is not that far off the beaten path from the Mammoth Downtown areas and was never super traffic heavy. (at least as of Feb. 2025 - I did see a new hotel being built on the way which might make the traffic worse eventually) I also liked how it was right by a gorgeous frozen lake and how easy it was to hike around the area with lots of reading material on trails as well as if you wanted to ski hike around. *Parking was usually pretty plentiful as well during our stay. And appreciated how easy it was to come in and out of the lodge. Continental breakfast was also served every morning and was pretty solid. We sometimes brought our own snacks down like our own hot chocolate and could use the hot water and eat by the window watching the snow fall or by the fire. *The rooms themselves were super cozy. We got the room with the attached restroom which we thought was great. It was bigger than expected with a living room area with a sink + a restroom with a toilet/shower + a nice bed area. The view was gorgeous and lots of lovely touches. We did pass by the shared restrooms and showers which looked all good. Did want to note here (don't think it's a negative) that you'll have to request room service if you want it including trash pickup. They do give you extra trash bags which were great. *The front desk usually was fantastic. Lots of great information and pointers on where to go and what to see. They usually went above and beyond! *This could be a negative to some, but although there isn't a fitness center/hot tubs in this lodge, Tamarack attendees can go to the sister hotel at the Mammoth Inn. Granted, we didn't realize the first night that the Mammoth Inn was about at 20 minute drive away and a bit of a trek in the dark. But when we got there, it was usually super lovely to find a lot of hot tubs and showers/changing rooms there along with another spot to explore.
A few caveats: *The walls are definitely pretty thin so do expect to hear footsteps and conversations from other rooms. No one seemed to complain but definitely good to know ahead of time if that does bother you. (Quiet hours are from 10PM - 8AM.) *The way to get to the rooms are a little tight, especially the second floor as it goes through the bar/living room area where sometimes a musician is playing at least on the weekend. It makes getting to our rooms quick and easy as well as to breakfast in the lobby but sometimes was a bit awkward when a bunch of people were in the area. *The lights outside the lodge were a bit funky. We were told there was a timer that went off at 10PM. However, during our 3 night stay, the first night had the outdoor lights on until 10PM while the other two nights had no lights come on at all outside. The front desk was nice enough to give us a free flashlight but would totally recommend bringing a flashlight of your own regardless or use your phone to watch out for ice in the winter. It does make for good stargazing at the very least!
Thanks again to the Lodge for a...
