Blue Heron Bed and Breakfast — Hotel in Mandeville

We stayed three nights and, while the location is convenient—close to the bike trail, lake, and restaurants—the overall experience was disappointing.

Positives: The room was cute, clean, and nicely furnished. It included a microwave, refrigerator with freezer, dish set, and small touches like oatmeal and milk, bottled water.

Negatives: From the start, communication was poor. The only message from the host was a door code text, which arrived late after check-in time. The property has major issues the listing does not disclose: heavy smoke and odors from the restaurant kitchen exhaust next door made the porch nearly unusable. To make things worse, the host burned yard waste one afternoon, filling the property with smoke (see attached pictures). The mattress was worn out and uncomfortable. Used dishes were removed daily but never replaced, which made the “extras” pointless. Overall, we did not feel welcome.

WOW. We stayed at Blue Heron for our anniversary and I was blown away. My wife booked the room directly with the owners and said the process was smooth and easy. We live only a few miles away so I was expecting a nice comfy room away from the kids for the night but it was much more. The room is not only clean and comfy it’s also beautiful and smells amazing. They have an oil diffuser in the room pumping out what I would call “pure calm”. When you walk into your room you just immediately feel relaxed. The little porch is an awesome bonus and the in room breakfast blew my mind. Our romantic evening was brought to the next level by Blue Heron. We should have booked for more than one night.
