Great stay. Comfortable and clean.
My wife made a reservation at Retro Rents, and I had my reservations (no pun intended.) However upon arrival in Terlingua, I found the establishment to be a wonderful step back into my childhood. My Camper (Betty) was a late 70s model something-or-other. It was clean, well preserved, clearly renovated, with a few add-ons here in there. I'll try to make it short from here.
It was clean and there were no bugs. All of the electrical sockets worked. Even the outside electrical socket operated. I wake up early and enjoy my coffee as my children and wife sleep in. So I took the coffee pot outside and enjoyed the sunrise over Big Bend. Each camper has hot water on demand. The tiny little showers work very well and you don't have to worry about running out of water. I was pleased that sewage was not collected in a tank. All of the waste water was piped directly out of the RV. Lastly, there were no bugs. Yes, I listed that twice. I like insects, outside where they belong. Call me spoiled, but I wish the CB radio and the stereo had worked. Nevertheless, it took me back to my...
Read moreRented the RV called Betty. Spacious enough for 4 of us. Kitchen is a little small but I guess that is the case in RV. Overall good place. They have running municipal water so no issue there. During summer, the place can get hot during mid day. So would suggest going out during mid days. Ac unit would cool but with multiple people in, won't cool enough to stay in. If you can bring small table fans, would be good. They do provide one. But one per person would be good to have if staying mid day. At Night sky is very visible. 2 minutes to adjust eyes and you can see milky way and stars. Of our 3 days, 2 days were clear. I was worried given its full moon, stars will be washed out. But no, we were able to see late night when moon was not out. Beds are comfy. Sofa beds, not so much in Betty, but comfy regardless. The neighbours would be friendly as small town people, so don't be alarmed if they drops by. Just communicate with them about what you are...
Read moreBeware of their cancellation policy! My wife is working on her MSN degree, and we booked a February weekend before her spring class schedule was released. Once her schedule was released, we realized we needed to cancel one of our dates with Retro Rents. We were within the 30 day window for a 50% refund, and clearly established that through emails with Dani. After 3 months of back and forth emails, it is apparent that Dani has no intentions of giving us our deserved refund. She used the excuse of "only having one person working at the local post office" as a reason we haven't received our refund yet. I have asked her several times through emails if she would just place the refund back on my credit card, but she will not. My family takes a weekend every year in Big Bend, and this year was the first and last time I will stay at Retro Rents. I prefer my hard earned money to go to more honest and customer service...
