Let’s talk about the awesome stuff first. Kitchen is very well stocked, has plenty of space, and goes beyond a rustic experience to border on something luxurious. If you’re a cook or a chef, plan to have fun in the kitchen. Great energy there.
Even in the heat of the day, the house stays remarkably cool. With a full house, it’s necessary for some folks to sleep up in the loft area, and even this area was delightfully cool and comfortable. The view of the sunrise over big bend while enjoying a cup of coffee on the patio, is SPECTACULAR and offers amazing opportunities for photography.
However...couple big problems. The dog onsite has NO BOUNDARIES and will just walk up and sniff you. For someone who has significant fear and anxiety in the presence of dogs, I was astonished at how oblivious the hostess was about her mongrel cur.
The hostess, Cynta (not sure how to spell it) was difficult to tolerate. I understand a host wanting to say hello and welcome the guests, but she was ALWAYS AROUND. Her lack of boundaries is apparent from sunrise to sunset. We were nagged about playing music in the middle of the afternoon. Whenever food was prepared, she would always seem to just appear out of nowhere...sort of like a stray cat. I didn’t rent this house to become friends with or feed our hostess, or step over and around her creepy, somewhat standoffish blue heeler.
And finally, she was quite simply insulting to a younger member of our party. As soon as we arrived, and we were doing our introductions, Cynta commented on how “(sic) tired and run down” one of our friends looked. He tried to laugh it off, but it was extremely rude and off-putting. She then attempted to walk it back by saying “(sic) but it’s ok everybody ends up looking good after they stay here for a few days”. Gross.
Overall, this was a story of unfulfilled expectations, missing the mark, over-inflated sense of entitlement by the host, all juxtaposed with a DELIGHTFUL villa experience. Seriously. We hope that for our next visit, the hostess learns how to leave the Villa's guests alone!Nobody likes that weird, unapproachable dog. Cattle dogs aren’t affectionate anyway. Nobody wants to hear about the hostess's glory days and adventures. A hotel’s hostess is not the center of our universe, nor are her stories the goal of our vacation.
Would come back, but ONLY for the views and the house. Would insist 100% radio silence from hostess. And kennel that...
Read moreEight of us hard-working Texas women, (ages 36 thru 68!) spent a week in Terlingua throughly enthralled with the Chihuahaun Desert climate and scenery as viewed from the Villa Terlingua, our "home away from home". We arranged to have both the Main House and the Guest House. Each place met our expectations and then some! Both were perfectly lovely. Comfortable & convenient to all we had come to do: Walking & Hiking, Visiting & Touring the Big Bend Nat'l Park, Attending Live Music at the Starlight, etc, etc. We especially loved preparing meals together in the well-provisioned kitchens. And the bathrooms were divine with clawfoot tubs and showers...indoor and outdoor! I must add: the Beds were All Very Compfortable!||The owner/concierge,Cynta certainly made us feel welcome by attending to all our needs promptly and offering us insider-type info about the area. From my bed in the Guest House, I was awakened by Spectacular Sunrises over the mountains. (My choice: I could've closed the curtains!) The Wrap Around Porch and Each of the Patios made Outside Living easy and enticing! (Perhaps we were a little too exhuberant outside ...chatting and giggling. We were politely reprimanded by the owner. For any trouble we may have caused her or others, we were and are deeply apologetic.) If you desire a place to stay while you explore this amazing desert area, Villa Terlingua surely is the best! All 8 of us highly recommend Villa Terlingua and do plan on returning with our families &...
Read moreWe spent 4 nights at Villa Terlingua in the Guest House. The house was one room with a very comfortable queen bed, a kitchenette with fridge, gas stove, sink and a small dining table. The room was perfect for 2 of us. There is no television, but we didn’t even miss it. There are three separate courtyards that are great extended living areas, one with a comfortable queen size bed for sleeping and stargazing. The bathroom is a retreat in itself. It has windows all the way around and a claw foot tub. The entire property was very clean and comfortable with a lot of personality. The outdoor shower was my favorite place to cool off in the evenings. It is very private so no worries about being seen. Cynta was a great hostess and was available for her guests as much as they required. It was a perfect vacation spot right next to Big Bend to spend our evenings. We cooked most of our meals as the villa was well equipped for all cooking and food preparation. Thank you Cynta for sharing your...
