This was, without a doubt, the worst place we stayed at during our three-week road trip across the US with our two kids. I've waited a week to ensure this review is fair and not written in the "heat of the moment." Now that I've had time to cool down, I can clearly say that this stay was a regrettable experience.||We arrived late at night, exhausted and in desperate need of a room. Unfortunately, despite the steep price of $230 per night, we had no other options as the nearby hotels were fully booked. My husband wanted to keep driving, but I overrode his decision, thinking that at such a high price, we would at least receive a clean room and decent service. How wrong I was.||The issues began right away:|- Insufficient Towels: Despite being a family of four, our room was only stocked with two sets of towels. When I requested more, I was handed just two bath towels, not a complete set. This might seem minor, but it set the tone for what was to come.|- Used Towels: After settling in and putting the kids to bed, we discovered used towels still hanging in the bathroom. (See attached photo)|- Low-Quality Electrical Outlets: The only outlet that provided enough power to charge our notebook was the one for the refrigerator. The others seemed faulty, raising concerns about the room’s electrical system. Charging my Fitbit in that room actually caused it to malfunction.|-Faulty Door Lock: The outside door did not lock automatically as it does in other hotels. You had to push the handle all the way up to secure it, otherwise, the room would remain unlocked. The extra guard lock was also loose and ineffective.|- Filthy Shower Curtain: The shower curtain was covered in hairs from previous guests. It was so disgusting that I discreetly cleaned it myself, not wanting to alarm my family. (I did not bother to take a picture of that)|- Trash in Drawers: We found garbage from previous guests left in the drawers. (See attached photo)|- Dirty Coffee Maker: The coffee maker was full of gunk, clearly never cleaned before. (See attached photo)||Given these conditions, we decided to skip using the pool the next day.||Other issues, while not as revolting or scary, were still unacceptable at this price point:|- No Toilet Paper: The toilet paper holder was empty, and we had to search for a spare roll.|- Noisy Air Conditioner: The air conditioner was so loud and shaky that it created ripples in the water bottle sitting across the room.|- Lack of a Table: There was no table in the room, which made organizing our things even more difficult.|- Outdated remote TV control:The TV offered a very limited selection of channels, some of which had no signal. While this could be expected in a remote location, the remote control was sticky and lacked a TV guide function, making it hard to find a suitable program for our kids.||When we attempted to address these issues the next morning, the office was closed. Frustrated, we packed up, dropped the key in the box and left, eager to put this place behind us.||We have stayed in a variety of places during our trip, including national park campgrounds with pit toilets and no showers, so we don’t expect luxury. However, this was by far the worst value for the price. At $230 per night, we expected cleanliness and a basic level of service, neither of which were provided.||To anyone considering this place: do yourself a favor and keep driving. The next night we stayed at a hotel with a pool further along our route that was immaculate, had friendly service, and included a complimentary warm breakfast for four—all for just $102!||To the management of the Hat Rock Inn: This is not how customer service should be. Please take a lesson from the other places we've stayed and step up your game.||The only positive thing I can say is that at least we didn’t...
Read moreErrr Ma Gerrr! I love this place!
I recently stayed here as part of a car rally and I was immediately enchanted by the whole property. Living in a major city, you get used to the Cement Jungle, but when you stay at the Hat Rock Inn, it’s a whole other world. First, there’s the San Juan River right outside our door. It took me about an hour to realize the river was RIGHT THERE! I kept hearing donkeys braying, and locating them is how I found the river. In the morning, there were a bunch of cows! Now if you know me and have read my reviews, I’m all about the hot tub. This property was booked ahead of time by the car rally, so I was thankful that they had a working whirlpool. They have a beautiful outdoor pool/hot tub. You can see out to the stars. My husband and I spent a lot of time pruning our skin and debating whether we were looking at the Big or Little Dipper. It was heavenly. The staff are very nice and told us a little bit about the Hogan (Navajo Mud Huts). There was also a situation where the sink and toilet plugged up. I’m guessing they run on pumps because after I called the Front Desk to report the overflow, about 15 minutes later the water drained itself and all was good. The rooms were very comfortable and there is a small fridge included. Parking is right in front of your door. This place is great for active people. I would not recommend it for people that don’t walk too much. The ground is dirt and rock around the area and you have to step up a 2 ft cement walkway to get into your room. If you have a wheelchair, I would mention that in your reservation so you get the room closest to the ramp. I would recommend Hat Rock Inn and look forward to planning a trip around staying here...
Read moreWe were on a 5 day road trip throughout Colorado, Arizona and Utah and this was our last night stay before heading home to Denver. Doesn't look like much from outside/from the roadway but the rooms surprise you. We were 1 of only 4 groups staying that night and the lady at the check-in desk asked if we wanted a ground floor room instead of being upstairs on the 2nd floor which I gladly accepted. She was super polite and nice. Pros: 1.) Rooms have recently been updated and look very nice. Best refrigerator we've had on our trip as far as size goes. Bathroom is excellent - good water pressure. Bed was comfortable and had 4 pillows to use. Also had 2 sitting chairs which was a first on this trip. 2.) Outside views towards the river are great especially early in the morning. 3.) Pool area looked really cool and would be nice to use in the summer time but due to timing of our trip in mid-October is was closed - understandably. 4.) There's a wood burning fire pit and sitting area to take in the views of the river and canyon. Cons: 1.) No continental breakfast offered but they did have Keurig machines in the rooms. 2.) Cable TV situation is not great with channels available/selection. Side note: Price seems a tad pricey considering how remote Mexian Hat is from anywhere else and was most expensive place we stayed at on our trip especially when you factor in the lack of places to grab food (there's an expensive steak place up the road, a 7-11 and another place to eat at the San Juan Inn, which doesn't have great reviews so we avoided it). Would recommend and would stay in again when we travel through based on the...
