DIRTY ALERT. What a shame, such a nice old turn of the century home from a Scottish business man. I’ve been in to B & B’s all over the country, this has to be the worst. Hard to know where to start so I’ll just use lots of commas… Wasps all over the place (girlfriend is deathly allergic) and no effort to spray etc. or take down the nests EVERYWHERE. Dirty everywhere, shower floor brown (test cleaned it), dust thick all over the floor, used tooth flosser in the night stand, soap stain on the crooked sink, white wicker furniture had holes as big as a volleyball, the bed literally fell apart leaving the mattress on the disgusting floor, a barking dog roams the house and came out of the kitchen with my breakfast (is this legal?) and I’m highly allergic which triggered asthma all night. No regular or decaf coffee, just some oily pecan coffee with un-chilled caramel cream. Refused to make waffles, instead we were served biscuits clearly made the day before, with canned fruit, wine for guests not chilled sweating on the table with a brand that is absolutely no doubt about $6/gallon. Then, the kicker…. Pat the owner noticed a used tissue on the floor in our room while chasing wasps and didn’t even pick it up while she bragged about being booked solid for 21 days and not having “enough time to spend all her money”. At $125/nite, use better ingredients, hire a professional cleaning staff & exterminator, replace the ratty furniture, buy $8/bottle wine and quarantine the dog that barks violently at everyone. Nothing but the best for her though as she really employs the Mercedes slogan and her $125k car blocks the driveway access so that people have to drive in the wrong way to get in the...
Read moreTake a step back in history at the 1872 John Denham House Bed and Breakfast! It is rumored that the Blue room is haunted by Sarah Denham. You be the judge 👻. We stayed there on the way through Monticello Fl on the way to Alabama. The home was nicely restored with plenty of amenities and a tasty home made breakfast. There where snacks and beverages available free of charge and comfortable rooms decorated back from the late 1800’s. We enjoyed the claw foot tub of the honeymoon suite and the multi candle display in one of 6 fireplaces. The rooftop cupola gives a spectacular view of the grounds. Highly recommend spending a night in this historic inn.
Monticello is definitely a quant must visit small town.
The drawback’s are:
Lack of garbage cans throughout the home. There was a small can available in the bathroom of our room only and didn’t see one in the common areas of the inn.
Ice is only available at a knock of the innkeepers kitchen door.
The honeymoon suite which faced the front of the home lacked appropriate bathroom window coverings and anyone could see all bathroom and bath activity from the front of the house in the evening.
The room was also missing a remote for the satellite system and our check in was later so we were unable to enjoy television during our stay. If we would have arrived earlier I’m sure the remote situation would have been resolved.
Still highly recommend a weekend at the 1872 Denham Inn. Pat was a great host. 5...
Read moreI booked a 4-night stay here for my husband's 40th birthday. I wanted to take him somewhere quiet and peaceful for a break from our very busy, hectic schedules. This was perfect. We had a warm welcome upon arrival. Our room was adorable (the whole place was adorable). The bed was VERY comfortable. The sheets were super soft. The B&B smelled amazing at all times due to something being cooked...breakfast or cookies. The breakfast each morning was delicious. Everything was made from scratch. My husband's favorite was the blueberry pancakes, mine was the eggs. Eggs sound simple, but somehow these were the best, most amazing eggs I have ever had. It was very clean and cosy. All staff were very friendly and accommodating. Our bathroom had a tub/shower. I took advantage of the bubble bath and bath salts that were provided. I think it has been over a decade since I just soaked in a tub. The town is super cute. We loved the coffee house which we could walk to from the B&B. There are a few nice restaurants/cafes within walking distance. There isn't a ton of stuff to do in the town, but that was exactly what we were looking for. Tallahassee is just a 20-mile drive and we did head up there for some massages and dinner on one of the days during our trip. Thank you, Mrs. Pat and everybody for making our...
