I will not elaborate on the issues, but there were two very strange issues that happened while I stayed at this property. I am a platinum elite Bon Voy member so I stay 60+ nights per year at a Marriott brand hotel. I was excited to stay here as it was recently ranted one of the top ranked 25 hotels in the country by Trip Advisor.
The room itself was very nice. The property is absolutely beautiful. I also appreciated the free parking, especially considering it was right I the heart of the downtown area along the Mississippi in Muscatine, Iowa.
To be honest, this stay would've been at generous 1 star if it were not for the top notch service of the general manager, Lee. When I notified him of the two problems that I had, he sprung into action to resolve them quickly, friendly and professionally for me. He is truly one of the most caring, kind and personable managers I have met at any property. My second day at the property while eating breakfast, he has gloves on, his tie loosened, top button undone and was going back and forth from the kitchen where it was apparent that he was assisting with washing dishes. He was clearing plates from the restaurant dining room, too. He was doing this all while addressing regular guests of the hotel by name and engaging in small talk with them. I very much appreciate the hands on approach for him. From a customer perspective, it seems like no job is too big or small for him to do.
Furthermore, to help with resolving one of the very strange, but yet serious complications that happened during my stay, he came back to the hotel property after his business hours at nearly 10 pm. He clearly wanted to assist with handling the situation right then and there to make sure all was well moving forward. This was absolutely above and beyond.
Although the stay was not perfect, after seeing the actions of Lee and how he went above and beyond to address them and make things right, I absolutely, 100% trust him that these things that happened during my stay are not the norm at this property.
Given the experience I have had working with him to make things right, I trust that this truly is a well ran, managed and staffed hotel property.
Lee is a terrific general manager and I suggest if you see him while you're there...introduce yourself to him! He'll go out of his way to make sure you have a...

I had the pleasure of staying in this surprisingly amazing hotel while on business in the area. I have stayed in Muscatine before in the block of hotels near the highway. I found the Merrill while on my BonVoy app and that night the rate was too good to pass up. Out of curiosity I booked it and headed over to the Merrill after I had lunch at Boonies. While driving up to and by the hotel I was already impressed just by the grounds and the look of the hotel. This is an older building that was restored to a modern and sophisticated hotel. The Merrill is everything a hotel should be, from the moment I pulled up and walked around the outside and saw the meticulously landscaped grounds to the elegant lobby I knew this was a great property.
Checking in was a great experience as the two young ladies who were at the front desk were very positive, cheerful, and a great help. They gave me a great room that overlooked the river, told me about the gym and suggested that I check out the riverfront trails. My room was just incredible, it was a River View King room and even though it was not a suite it was still very a refined space. Clean with great lines, upscale furniture, great room essentials, like a water and coffee station, a great desk to work on with many modern amenities for plugging in electronics and phones, and top of the line bathroom amenities, this was a taste of luxury. I really enjoyed my stay here and had a great sleep. Did I mention the Wifi?? The signal was clean, strong and steady, just what a business traveller needs and what you would expect from a hotel of this level. The Merrill is truly a great find in the area, and well worth the visit if you're...
Read moreMy husband and I stumbled upon this hotel in 2021 when we were looking for a wedding venue and I can honestly say that this hotel is such a hidden gem! It has a beautiful modern feel to it and we quickly fell in love with the venue! Working with Dana and Gretchen to make our dream wedding come true was an absolute pleasure. They were always quick to respond to any questions I had and were very accommodating when it came to some of the ideas and details I wanted to incorporate into our day. One of my biggest fears when it comes to wedding food was that it wasn't going to be warm enough when served but they Chef and staff did an amazing job getting the food out quickly! All of the guests were RAVING about how delicious the food was and it truly was! . The ballroom overlooking the river is gorgeous and is big enough to hold a good amount of people. We also had our ceremony in one of the side conference rooms and guests loved that everything was all in the same location, but separate rooms so they could enjoy cocktail hour without having to worry about getting the space set for the reception. I cannot recommend this spot enough to other brides looking for a venue and is really pretty affordable for what you get and the experience the Merrill provides. My ONLY complaint was that they do not have a traditional "bridal suite" but we were able to use one of the smaller conference rooms to get ready in and it worked...
